God-speed Jirard. This New Game Plus series is one of the biggest undertakings I've ever seen any RUclipsr make! Best of luck. And I'm glad to see you're looking great as well!
legomotion836 I think his name was Fred, Ned, Ted or something like that. Anyway I'm worried about. Jerard haveing to complete the Skyrim and Sonic 06 again!
I still say that "Cranky Kong Run" was just a joke Nintendo made, and thus shouldn't factor into the ranking... heck, they may not have realized you COULD pull that off!
Defenetly what I thought. They propably thought nobody could or if would do that ever. Speedrunning wasn't a thing back then either. Just a joke, reflecting just the grumpy character of Cranky. They would most certainly added a small reward for that, another Cutscene or heck, even a hidden Stage if someone was that ludacris, but nothing.
@@sagichdirdochnicht4653 speedrunning maybe wasn’t a thing but there were hardcore gamers and large-scale tournaments even in arcade days. I think you could reasonably have expected someone to beat the cranky run.
oh yes, I still remember playing this game for the first time and beating the game for the first time. One of the bestest. Was back in the 90's I think?
It's cool to see how a single game can have an impact on different people's lives. This was an influential game for me as well and was really the first game as a kid that my family and I really sunk our teeth into and with every challenge wanted to overcome it. My love for video games comes from here. Thanks for revisiting it.
He's stated repeatedly that DKC2 will be the last Completionist review he does before ending the channel. Most people don't want that to happen right now. =P
honestly though, do we EVER want him to retire? maybe one day but he is young, and he still enjoys completing games, even if some of them are a gigantic pain in the ass.

Suggestion, as Shadow of the colossus is getting a remake I think holding off on it till the new one comes out is a good idea. It looks beautiful man! The game means a lot to me and I would love if you could wait and play it in its new HD format.

Great! Now we have to wait for him to begin the All-stars pack before he can even give it the proper ending! He even reviewed the RPGs before finishing it!

Was he though? In terms of game play his attacks didn't do more damage right? There was also nothing he could lift that Diddy couldn't as well right? I mean at the end of the day he was kinda really just a bigger, slower hit-box
Christopher Christ He could jump on bigger enemies heads where Diddy couldn't! and Diddy felt loose and fiddly. Diddy was good for finding bonus rooms as he holds barrels out in front of him.

I hope this becomes a one week series, because so far? It's absolutely amazing! I love the attention to detail this shows giving, but I just hope the one episode a week thing remains strong! Being that there's 118 episodes to go, I wouldn't want to wait two years for my favorite reviews to be redone. Best of luck getting through this Jirard!! 👍✌

It's funny that you posted this video, because I recently started replaying Donkey Kong Country 1. This is still one of my all-time favorite video games, and I grew up on the series. The three-in-one bonus level in Oil Drum Alley is still a challenge for me. Either way, I still love this game and its sequels.
Hey! You saw the second option to that. So you really can't afford to be mad. And no way in hell am I going to touch Kaizo myself so I'm not mad. Haha.

I think the reference being made is to the fact that Jirard missed one challenge in his play through of Dark Souls 2, the challenge of beating the entire game without dying once, which unlocks a unique ring as a reward, thus Kranky claiming to have done it in one life mattered.
This was my first videogame ever and the best present for Christmas i ever had... I still remember that Christmas morning when I received that awesome gree box with the SNES and the game... BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!! Thanks for bringing back that beautiful memory :) Greetings from Chile!
So are you doing these in order that you did originally ? Cause I can't wait to see you do skyrim and dark souls again ^^ also good on you not letting your old completions die.
Doing Dark Souls again from scratch will be much easier. He'll have learned how to play and the layouts and things and you can get a completionist set in just 2 or 3 runs, a couple nights of play. Skyrim though... there's no way of speeding up.
robbybevard I disagree with Skyrim being impossible to speed up. Knowing where the side quests are and how to solve the puzzles can potentially shed hours off of the time. Sure there's a point that you can't get any faster without glitches, but I don't think jirard had knowledge of every quest and location the first time. I've been playing it since 2012 and I still find new side quests
Donkey Kong Country is one of the best platformers I've ever played back in the day. I still remember watching the commercial for this gem for the first time back in '94 a couple of months before the game came out, and I thought it was going to be for some new fancy CD system. I couldn't believe my eyes when the commercial said it was only for Super Nintendo. My jaw literally hit the floor when I saw that. To this day, I still can't believe that this game runs on 16-bit hardware.
I only really liked 2 and 3. 1 is a great game as well, I won't argue that. I'm really not a big fan of Returns and Tropical Freeze though (Tropical Freeze had amazing visuals and music though)
The Retro versions are fundamentally flawed and take many steps back from the innovativeness of the original series. Case in point, Donkey Kong is useless without Diddy because there's no run button. Platforming is unforgiving.
Great Job and Video Cuz! Haha we have the same last name so we’re cousins by default. Just wanted to point out at 5:30 the SNES Mario Kart DK with the wife beater is actually DK Jr. which will be DK’s Father but later mario karts have the DK we know with the red tie
When I was a kid, I had a 13" CRT in my room that I had my SNES hooked up to, and I'd regularly go to a water level and pause just so I could fall asleep to the music. Being a savvy kid, I'd even unplug the video cable and leave the audio cable hooked up, so I wouldn't suffer burn in.
The reason I fell in love with the Donkey Kong universe is funny. My initials DK are the same as Donkey Kong. I was little at the time so you can't make fun of me for having a reason to love to big ape.
God bless David Wise and Grant Kirkhope for their great contributions to the world of gaming. DKC1, DKC2, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, DK64, Yooka Laylee... Some of the best music I've ever heard in games.
This video is bringing back memories of when I decided to LP the GBA port of this game, as well as doing a bonus ep that shows off a level that's exclusive to the lesser-known GBC port. Thanks for that, Jirard. :)
I'm reporting this video for sexual content. Too much dong. But really, this is my favorite game of all time. I'm happy to see it again get more exposure with his video and the snes classic
7:37 Gotta intervene, but that track was done by Eveline Fischer (she also did the Map Theme, Temple, Forest, Tree Tops and Candy Kong's theme). They're both musical geniuses!
Another great video Jirard. This was always one of my favorite game for the SNES next to Chrono Trigger and I did the same thing when I completed it. I remember getting second place in the Blockbuster challenge back in the day. I also agree DKC had amazing soundtrack.
You know the drill But do you know the screw driver I think I nailed that That last one might have screwed everything up Ok I'll screw off Please don't 'pick' on me for those puns Yasssssssssssss?
kranky kong run will still exist as a sort of way to show just how far you are willing to go to prove your love and dedication for the series. basically a "Veteran Deluxe++" status, where you basically have shown you are the best, and that you are the most hardcore fan, and will stick with the series, for however long they keep it going.
Donkey Kong Country: a game that I played through to 101% back when I had the time and patience for doing such things. Not on one life and not under an hour, but even before Prozac I was never that obsessive.
Its because Jirard is going to end the Completionist with DKC2. Once he gets tired of the show, he'll complete it. However, we don't know when that will be, but I'm betting not for a few years.
I remember playing through this game and getting the 101%, then I saw that message. I always thought it was some joke meant to troll the player. I mean it was a fraction of my play time. Like one of those kids who boast they did it better. There was no way anyone could do that, at least I never heard anyone every doing so. Now I know you can, it still falls into that special category. Not really a completionist challenge, more of a insane speed-run challenge for those hardcore types. Was never a huge fan, but I did have this title and played it a lot. I think it was one of those Christmas gifts where I wanted one game, and got one I never heard of. It grew on me and still remains a classic. Never really played the others though, maybe it's time I should ^_^ Thanks for the great video! Before you know it, you'll be completing this whole New Game Plus!
5:43 - 5:51: Funny thing is, the Red Tie wearing DK was actually introduced in Donkey Kong '94 for the Game Boy, BEFORE Donkey Kong Country was released.
Kuriz Guy i think he meant the error was it was supposed to be "donkey kong" and not rambi, considering he introduces the first of 'rambi's animal friends' as rambi.
Jirard, im gonna put this on discord too just to improve my odds of you seing it but, keep the new intro for all of the completionist. I gather its meant for NG+, but honestly just the intro pannel showcasing how long you've been at this makes the stuggle and triumph of it all so much more palpable.
Oh man! What a relief! I'm perhaps the biggest DKC fan I know and it's always bugged me that I've never completed DKC. The Cranky Kong run just seemed way too demanding. But now I can rest easy knowing that it's not required to complete the game.
I 101% completed dkc1 in a hour no deaths and was like no reward and cranky still brags. I was upset. I didn't know about the fun mode they didn't add. The dialogue makes sense now that u found out about the fun mode that never made it to the game. Great hame still just was a little depressed i did that and got no reward for it. Great review.
I originally subscribed for the old videos. When you two split I almost stopped watching. Because he was who I was watching for. But you've won me over. I'm glad you're redoing the old videos. Have to say, your videos are great! Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of my favorite games as well, so I almost selfishly can't wait for the last video. But then who knows what I'd have to look forward to after that.
Great episode Jirard, this game is such a classic that I made a video on this not too long ago for the SNES Classic and I fell in love with the game all over again.
The Cranky Mode wasn't the only thing that was left out of the final version. I strongly remember owning a DKC strategy guide that said you could jump on Necky's coconuts to stun them (which was used in the Necky's Nest fight in DKC2), and that Enguarde could kill a Croctopus. I lost many lives trying to do those things, thinking that I was dealing with a janky hitbox.
This works both as a review, and a completionist video - about one of the greatest games on the SNES. Donkey Kong Country was a game changer for many of us.
Hey! I just got a physical copy of DKC2 and it’s amazing (and it’s my first and only snes game), I’m planning on completing it because of you. Thanks man keep on completing.
I enjoyed the new video (and style) for New Game Plus. Great job! The only thing I had to get accustomed to the plain wall background, rather than seeing a bookcase of swag related to the game. I wonder if this was a design choice to differentiate from normal Completionist videos or just convenience.
I didn't know a single thing about this channel (other than there's lots of thumbnails with beards in them), but I saw this in the suggestions for another video. The name, "New Game Plus," interested me, and I was wanting to see how that could have anything to do with the original DKC. At the beginning I wasn't fully paying attention since, again, didn't know much about the channel and I wasn't interested in what he was saying... but then I heard something about the "Cranky Kong Challenge" and I got interested. Little did I know, I should've been listening, because I spent about 8 minutes thinking "Okay, stop talking about the game, we know it's awesome, just do the challenge!" until I realized this was just a review and I was wasting my time. I'm glad I decided to keep watching though because "Cranky Mode" is a super cool bit of trivia to know about, but I'll forever be salty about the relatively misleading title............ (not really, I'll probably forget about it in a week or so, and it wouldn't have been so misleading if I paid more attention, but I like being dramatic).
Thank you for doing this, Jirard. Starting over from square one is one of the scariest things anyone can go through in life, but you've got our support on this one, be it monetary or verbal. Keep on doing that good work; we're all going to enjoy it immensely, rest assured.
This game was my intro to video games. My aunt had a snes and we got to play it. Aside from having one of the best soundtracks, it’s amazing that diddy kongs quest might even have a better one.

I still remember that Christmas morning when I received that awesome gree box with the SNES and the game...
BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!
Thanks for bringing back that beautiful memory :)
Greetings from Chile!
So are you doing these in order that you did originally ? Cause I can't wait to see you do skyrim and dark souls again ^^ also good on you not letting your old completions die.
He's not doing them in the same order.
Yeah the second episode was originally Secret of Mana
Least now he can play the updated skyrim. But I agree with the dark souls its a lot easier the second time through.
Jirard please stay sane sir!
That crush 40 poster in the back hella sick and love the new game plus stuff keep it going :D
*I never could get into DK I don't know what it is never could put my banana on it. I'm a big Zelda Mario Metroid fan tho*
I only really liked 2 and 3. 1 is a great game as well, I won't argue that. I'm really not a big fan of Returns and Tropical Freeze though (Tropical Freeze had amazing visuals and music though)
Same here , as far as Nintendo goes im not into DK but they are good games and i can see why people like It
Niklas Universe 2,3 and TF for me. 1 and Returns just... Idk something doesn't click with me with those games. Not sure what.
The Retro versions are fundamentally flawed and take many steps back from the innovativeness of the original series. Case in point, Donkey Kong is useless without Diddy because there's no run button. Platforming is unforgiving.
Y'all just suck at it
Great Job and Video Cuz! Haha we have the same last name so we’re cousins by default. Just wanted to point out at 5:30 the SNES Mario Kart DK with the wife beater is actually DK Jr. which will be DK’s Father but later mario karts have the DK we know with the red tie
The Crankey Kong run is E V I L
When I was a kid, I had a 13" CRT in my room that I had my SNES hooked up to, and I'd regularly go to a water level and pause just so I could fall asleep to the music. Being a savvy kid, I'd even unplug the video cable and leave the audio cable hooked up, so I wouldn't suffer burn in.
this really got me CRANKY ;)
The reason I fell in love with the Donkey Kong universe is funny. My initials DK are the same as Donkey Kong. I was little at the time so you can't make fun of me for having a reason to love to big ape.
I find that PBG shirt you're wearing quite the coincidence since it's Zelda month and Zelda is Missing from PBG's channel.
God bless David Wise and Grant Kirkhope for their great contributions to the world of gaming. DKC1, DKC2, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, DK64, Yooka Laylee... Some of the best music I've ever heard in games.
New Game+ ! Woohoo!!
Ah, my childhood. It's so lovely to see it once more. I started playing video games because of the DKC trilogy :P and I love it to bits.
101% boiz
Pharaoh cute profile
The wild arms music at the end is AMAZING and SO NOSTALGIC
I just saw the thumbnail and i almost cried because I thought it was donkey kong country 2
Side note: Are you ever going to play DKC 3?
probably, DKC2 though? i hope not for at least another 10 years...
The Gaming Paladin DKC 2 is going to be the final episode of the Completionist, so hopefully he’ll skip it and do 3 at some point
Another great video Jirard. This was always one of my favorite game for the SNES next to Chrono Trigger and I did the same thing when I completed it. I remember getting second place in the Blockbuster challenge back in the day. I also agree DKC had amazing soundtrack.
0:37 wow, that is insanely clever and effective use of the negative space on that metroid poster in the background. Props to the artist, holy shit.
You know the drill
But do you know the screw driver
I think I nailed that
That last one might have screwed everything up
Ok I'll screw off
Please don't 'pick' on me for those puns
Yasssssssssssss?
*slaps forehead*
*intensifys forehead slapping*
kranky kong run will still exist as a sort of way to show just how far you are willing to go to prove your love and dedication for the series. basically a "Veteran Deluxe++" status, where you basically have shown you are the best, and that you are the most hardcore fan, and will stick with the series, for however long they keep it going.
Let’s get ready for the DKC 2 review, after all his career is done. And can I just say I’d kind of forgive him if he at least does that
Forgive him, how?
I’m out of the loop regarding DKC. Why do people keep referencing it in regards to the allegations?
@@OfficialCrowMaulerJirard has stated he wanted DKC2 to be his last video.
Donkey Kong Country: a game that I played through to 101% back when I had the time and patience for doing such things.
Not on one life and not under an hour, but even before Prozac I was never that obsessive.
Stop doing the country games every time I see it I think its county 2 and I get scared
coldtv
Same
I know right?
for a second i felt really depressed!
coldtv Why are people saying they're s scared of this video? I think DKC2 is the best of the original trilogy!
Its because Jirard is going to end the Completionist with DKC2. Once he gets tired of the show, he'll complete it. However, we don't know when that will be, but I'm betting not for a few years.
Sorry my dude
Never really played the others though, maybe it's time I should ^_^
Thanks for the great video! Before you know it, you'll be completing this whole New Game Plus!
I’m glad that jackass is gone in these new game plus episodes, honestly.
we all are man, the guy is beyond a jackass for doing what he did to a friend, let alone a big luvable lug like Jirard, that is heartless level evil.
The Gaming Paladin what happened?
9:13 "Ramby is joined by a cast of animal friends" Woops, everyone slips up sometimes. Just makes us human :)
Is this because of that BEARS guy?
Nox Box yup
5:43 - 5:51: Funny thing is, the Red Tie wearing DK was actually introduced in Donkey Kong '94 for the Game Boy, BEFORE Donkey Kong Country was released.
9:13 "Rambi is joined by a cast of animal friends"-Jirard the mis pronouncist 2017
Well he's technically not wrong.
Side note: I actually have the computer used in the "toss that bad boy in the dumpster" bit.
*BUT BEARDMAN!*
Shhhhhhhh... we don't talk about him anymore.
agreed
And the classic mario all stars pack joke... *sigh*
there were some good jokes of his, but they were few and far between.
I just beat donkey Kong country yesterday and it’s a fantastic game I love it to death
"Tight Bois Take Their Time" is my mantra for playing Dark Souls and Cuphead. Suppress the rage, harness your skills, be the boi of tightness!
OMG the music!! I've spent so much time getting lost with the volume up.
I was incredibly worried before I noticed the lack of two in the title, Jirard. Glad to see we're just on a new game plus run!
Could one say that Donkey Kong Country is an example of game design being in...RARE form? Thank you, thank you, please, your thunderous applause is too much!
So he's finally back, Performing for you!
If you know the words you can join in too!
Put your hands together if you wanna clap!
As we take you through this complete rap!
T-C, the completeionest!
He's the player of beard bros, you know his well
He's finally back to kick some tail!
His completionest gun can fire in rounds!
If he shoots ya, you're going down!
He's Older, and Wiser, and bearder too!
He's the first member of the T-C crew!
Sonic,Metroid,Mario too!
Mega Man X, and DK Country!
(Repeat)
Going back and rewatching this episode to build hype for dkc coming to switch online next week!
"You dont have to do the cranky mode", "it doesn't exist" (but it kind of does), "you don't have to do it" (ok . . .) "Complete it!" (Whaaa . . . but I thought you didn't have to do the cranky run)
