Happy Halloween everyone! It's that one special, spooky time of year, so we've got a theme-related upload for you today! A while back, a few of you told us we should do some VoicePlay for Halloween and Christmas, and we thought that was a fantastic idea! So for episode 243, we're checking out "This Is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Earl, overalls guy, is turning into a character called Behemoth. He is a character that is in a lot of the background scenes. Eli is the mayor. Geoff is obviously a vampire and Layne is a devil. J None, again obviously, is a werewolf. No one has commented on the fact that the reason Jack at the beginning gave them the candy was because he was playing a trick on them. If you don't give a treat you get a trick. 😊
The behemoth is just a zombie, it plays off with how dumb he is.
@Amanda Willenbring there is a devil character in the movie, if you rewatch hes in a lot of scenes with the yellow plaid werewolf that J is playing, which the connection between those 2 characters is why i think Layne is dressed as the devil instead
Geoff's bass in Freinds On The Other Side is so cool and Geoff's covers of the Headless Horseman and The Monster Mash are perfect.
Between Layne and Geoff at the end of Friends On the Other Side you can actually believe it's real drums and a bass guitar hooked to a bank of subwoofers. LOL
In an interview Layne (beatboxed) said that this video took all day. They started at 7 am and wrapped at 11 pm. There were 10 breaks in between for make up.

There's a behind-the-scenes video about the making of this song - it's great to watch. In one part, Geoff was in full vampire makeup and trying to drink with fangs. He held up the can and said, "They ran out of real blood so I have to drink this."

Loved this one...I like it more than Oogie Boogie.. But then, there's Kidnap the Santy Claws, and that one is insane, too. Really love your appreciation of their musicianship - it's just extraordinary. The fact that they all have huge ranges and switch roles constantly makes it all the more amazing.
Eli's transformation is unreal. He is faintly terrifying. In their Behind the Scenes, they stopped 10 times for makeup. They started at 7 a.m. and didnt finish until 11 p.m. If you look for Rek Dunn's channel (they dedicated the HALO cover to him) you can find the behind the scenes. Really great video.
All of VoicePlay's Nightmare Before Christmas covers are fantastic. I'd also recommend their cover of Tennessee Whiskey, I personally think it's one of their best
Tennesee Whisky is how I first found VoicePlay and was totally hooked. I haven't looked back since.

@@marshayoung9387 I believe I've seen everything they've ever done. Though there may be some old ones I missed. :) I found VoicePlay first, singing Tennessee Whisky, then found their other videos, and also Geoff's. I doubt there's much of them I haven't seen

If you want super sick you have to watch Friends On the Other Side. Between Layne and Geoff at the end you'll think you're at a concert. Watch your ear drums. LOL

What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, and Phantom of the Opera are wonderful costumed numbers. For them just getting together and singing their hearts out check out Eleanor Rigby, Bang!, and Daddy Sang Bass. And yes, that's their actual families. As to The Chicken Song, I love that number but don't know what category I'd put that in. Other than totally hilarious. I think you'd get a kick out of it.
Their stagecraft is always so damn good, and except for specialized effects, they all are involved in the builds. This one needed sfx makeup so they got help. The best way I can put how they do the amazing videos they do on a shoestring budget is, "they pour champagne out of a beer bottle".

This is incredible, the voices, the make-up, the arrangement, geeze, so good! Suggest Hoist the Colours if you haven't seen it. Any PTX, Home Free and VoicePlay would be great, fans of all.

VoicePlay do some CGI at times - see it in The Headless Horseman - little additions. But this took many many hours of filming, stopping to add costums, make up, hair etc... between takes.. I need to make a collection of the many faces of Eli, he can look so different at times. :) Loved your reaction. Yes, talent, genius, and a lot of hard work.

I watched this on a 4k 55 inch tv and his eyes flash red one time. I couldn't see the eyes flash on a monitor.

That was a fun one. Originally Geoff's first take was too scary so he made it playful by adding the dancing trio monsters. This one among some of his other solo videos really shows off his sense of humor & playfulness.
