Hi, great tutorial! I was wondering do you have some type of guide to explain how much tulle to use for different sizes? I’m trying to learn to make tutus but don’t know where to start with sizing. I have a 4 year old that I’ll be trying to make tutus for but just in case I want to do a different size.
I enjoy your videos! Thank you for the detailed instructions. You’re very thorough in your explanations. I feel like I can give this a try. Again, thank you 😊
AMAZING TUTURIAL!!! I love the way your finishes are so clean, this is the best method i ever seen. Big kiss from a little Azorean Island from Portugal.
I love watching your videos. Your voice is so nice to listen too. Do you by chance have a chart of different sizes for tutus? Thank you so much for sharing your talent!
Thank you! I really appreciate it. Yes, I like making quality tutu’s, not something thrown together. I wanted to share my process so others can make them for their little ones and not have them falling apart or become sellers and know they’re putting out a high quality tutu, which in turn generates high sales!
Hi there, the coarser one. But not the real super stiff one. You can use the softer one but you’ll need to use more yardage to give it more of a flare out.
This is the best tutu video i have seen. Being a sewer i did not understand why most people "glue" the ribbons together at the connected ends. I love your way much better. I have two questions 1- where do you find the yardage for the different sizes. 2- what size mannequin do you use.??
Hi! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! If you take a look at my How to make a fluffy tutu video, with the pink polka dot ribbon trim, I’ve outlined the yardage there, but I’ll be sure to come back and add it in the description of this video. And just a note, use it as a guideline knowing the more fabric you add the fluffier it will be😉 I use the infant size mannequin. I bought it on Amazon years ago, but don’t see the exact one on there when I just looked.
I made my first tutu this past weekend and used glitter ribbon. Maybe I got the wrong kind because there is now glitter everywhere in my sewing room. I am going to have to spend the whole day this coming Saturday doing a deep clean on my floor, table top and sewing machine before I can start on my next project. Can you tell me where you got your glitter ribbon from?
Thanks for sharing from Atlanta Ga USA first time here 👀 next time I was looking back I like how you sew it all the way down then burn . most people use the glue gun thanks
Thanks for this video. Which stitch lenght and tension are you using for your tutu? Did you sew the gold ribbon continuously on all you tulle or did you cut each piece? Im looking to start making them?
Thank you! The stitch length is set at a 2 and tension 0. I sewed it continuously. Sew everything else together first to make one long piece, then continuously sew the gold above the colored ribbon. Saves a lot of time! Good luck! You’ll find it’s easy to do, and any help you need just let me know😊
I get my tulle from bbcrafts.com and tulleshop.com. But I I’m in urgent need and can’t wait for shipping, I will go to my local craft store Joann’s and use a coupon to bring the cost down. I can usually get anywhere from 40-60% off. And I’m so glad you like the video😊
Tutu muchtuluv Glad you replied, Thank you very much for your sharing ❤️, I watched the videos of you making tutu dresses, they are very beautiful. Wish you do more videos.😀
Aww thank you so much! I have a few videos coming soon, a Minnie Mouse shirt one, to go with the pink and white polkadot tutu video ( How to make a fluffy tutu) I posted. I like to make complete outfits for you all. I’m still editing a Safari tutu video, and working on a Mermaid tutu today that I’m recording. So stay tuned😊
Trying to understand so I can make one for my 2 going 3 she is asking for a rainbow dress or skirt. Is the tutu folded from the roll and you cut one yards of the folded tutu? And why did you cut one yard and then cut it down again to 14”? Please explain. The rest of the tutorial I understand thank you so much. What’s the width of the tutu? Is it 14” by the 1 yard the final cut? What are the measurements I should use for my 3 years old?
Hi there, the tulle is already folded in half on the tulle bolt, so when I roll out 1 yard the top edge is the folded side and the bottom edge is the open end, so once the yard is cut, I cut the folded edge off straight across, so now there are 2 opens ends that you will later fold in half. I need a 7” tutu, so I cut the length of the tulle down 14”, so when I fold it in have I have the 7” I need for the 7” length tutu.
Hi there! I love making Christmas tutu’s! I do use standard sizing and Ive had no complaints. I have it in the video and comment section of my How to Make A Fluffy Tutu ( pink with polkadot ribbon tutu video). I go upto 24mths but just go up by an inch as you get bigger. 😊
Hi there! I buy my tulle fabric from tulleshop.com or bbcrafts.com. I buy ribbon from each of them as well but like going to my local fabric store Hobby Lobby for the pattern ribbons.
Hi there! Yes, the tulle it’s already folded in half when you’re rolling it out. Then, when I cut the ends off of both sides I have the 2 stacked pieces. So when you fold that in half and sew your channel you essentially have 4 pieces. Gives the tutu a fuller look. I hope that helped😊
Very well explain, thank you for showing us your technique!! I have a sewing machine for about 5 years and I haven’t used it much I’m still intimidated. I will start using it more often.
You’re so welcome. Yes, just sit and slowly sew along. You’ll find it’s so easy. I actually find making my tutu’s very therapeutic, if you can believe that😂
Я так рада, что ты нашел меня! Я с трепетом узнаю, что мои видео смотрят так далеко. Да, дайте мне знать, если я могу помочь. Я так благодарен за ваши добрые слова. xoxox
Yes, try that. I think you’ll find it will knock off some time you spend making the tutu. I see some people cut, sew or glue the ribbon first. I think sew and cut it as you go is faster and easier.
I get them from threadart.com. They’re super cheap and I have never had a problem with them. Here are the color numbers to identify them in the site- Pink #383, the light green one is Sea Foam #208, the yellow I used for the yellow and gold part of the tutu is Pro Maize #1135, for the purple is Violet #253 and Lt Sky Blue #239. I buy these for 1000M for $1.99 on thread art vs JoAnns for $7.99. Please let me know if you need anything else. Happy Easter !
I love your tutorial! I just have one question that I am not sure I understood. Do you sew the glitter ribbon on each individual color or after you sew the colors together? I hope that made sense.
Oh my goodness, I didn’t realize I edited that part out🤦♀️ The video was so long already, I had to shorten it. You’ll want to connect each one of the colorful pieces first, then sew the gold ribbon on top of the color ribbon all the way across. It saves time, instead of adding the single color ribbon, then the gold on top of that, for each color, then sew each individual piece together to make it one long piece. So in a nut shell, take your bare tulle, sew the matching color ribbon to the end of each individual piece of tulle first, then sew each piece together, finally add the gold all the way across. Hope that helps! And thank you so much!

How do you "figure" out the waistband? Just started sewing and would like to make a few tutus for Christmas. Is there a standard size chart?

Where do you buy gold ribbons?
That was very interesting, I had to make one for a 9 yr old, she wanted it 12 inches long. How do you decide the length of a tutu?
Measure from waist to your desired length
