ok im confused Im not that deep into berserk and have only seen the golden age anime and regrettably the 2016 too. Do apostles have to sacrifice to attain power? I thought that was only something the godhand had to do
I personally agree with the monster manual where he sacrificed either his family (parents mainly) or his partner so he can be alone and hunt shit all day.
I think some apostles do retain some humanity, and the goal pf the behelit owner transforming them has a role of their motives, as in Griffiths case he's most powerful because he has almost no emotion, and the way he used his behelit was extremely selfish, imagine being a behelit owner, succumbing to battle, and then using it just because you want to see your family again.
i think an interesting thing about characters like him and zodd is that it never states that a sacrifice has to be people. It sounds like you just have to sacrifice something that you love. The count refused to sacrifice his daughter for the second behlit, but he was already an apostle. What if you didn't have children, or an army, etc etc. What if you can sacrifice your dreams, goals, ideas, your future. etc
I like that one... I mean what if they ask for a sacrifice and instead of sacrificing the life of someone you care about you sacrifice something of equal importance to you, like say dreams of a future with that person or something like that...
Well the egg of the new world was exactly that, someone without loved ones, and it sacrifice the world itself, allowing changing it by the consequences of the incarnation of the hawk of light
Berserk has some really cool ideas for tattoos, however you need to remember something messed up has or will happen and you need to wait for the series to finish before deciding.
The more I learn about berserk the more I realize that Griffith had MORE THAN ENOUGH ABILITIES to achieve his dreams without torturing his closest friends and dooming humanity
Ganiska said that apostles reincarnated themselves into amplified caricature version of themselves with every single desire/goal amplified. So that could explain why he is that extreme.
yes. i think berserk teaches a very important life lesson with griffith. it shows how people get cocky and lose sight of the bigger goal once they feel good about themselves. keep your cards hidden and your ego in check but never dream small. griffith became greedy and malevolent because he thought he deserved it. so in the end he sacrificed everything to get what he thinks he deserves. thats legit how people turn evil irl
I can't unimagine that the wolf part is his mutated elongated phallus because his upper body aligns so well with the two hind legs. Also the wolf part only has one eye. God helps me.
Just predicting the future here he’s going to turn out to be homosexual and sacrificed his Lover so he could live up to an image then he probably use the The Bailit to give up what he had gotten from giving up his lover.
Irvine is Judeau counterparts. Both being very close to a girl member of their team (Casca for Judeau and Sonia for Irvine), love to play lute when relaxing, cool and calm demeanor and the sharpshooter (Judeau with throwing daggers while Irvine is bow)
Personally, I'm more curious over what event pushed Irvine to activate his behelit. If I had to guess, I would say there was a hunting accident that left him so maimed that he became fully dependent on his family. That in turned caused stress and eventually enough resentment that Irvine's family tried to do the unthinkable... but Irvine, mind finally breaking, pulled the Uno reverse card.
Someone said in the comments, but I like the idea of him sacrificing something else not alive, like a goal or his dreams. He was said to be almost always alone, so maybe he sacrificed his dream(maybe his greatest hunt) to activate his behelit.
Goddammit i might have to finally read berserk just for the designs alone. I started reading claymore and the designs for the creature are so coo, and the characters are cool af
... Yeah I don't think zod is gonna stick by Griffith in the final fight, and the idea of some apostles rebelling against the Godhand by joining guts, whilst it would seem silly, would actually make an interesting twist...
I feel like these are the original hawk members from another lifetime like this is probaly Judea who was a accurate knife thrower nice guy introvert who wasn't as brash as other hawk members
Maybe im just stretching here. But Irvine being a wolf like apostle and Sonia (who is obsessed with Griffith) having some moments with him kinda mirrors Guts and Casca. Irvine is reserved and quiet, more accostumed to being on his own, a similar personality to Guts. Irvine also has the wolf like transformation and Guts is also associated with wolf imagery. Sonia and Casca both obsess over Griffith. I kinda see it a possible foreshadowing that Griffith is going to lose everything again like its some kind of vicious cycle. Fundamentally Griffith cant obtain the utopia he wants because HE is the major flaw in the grand scheme of things.
If we ever figure out what he sacrificed to become an Apostle, it will definitely change this initial impression. Every Apostle did SOMETHING horribly evil to become what they are...
It is said that Apostles whenever they sacrifice their humanity for their deepest desires. Some actually keep a portion of their humanity, which helps them function like normal humans. The best example would be Nosferatu Zodd. Who despite looking fearsome, is an honorable warrior Who detest killing the weak and defenseless
I wish we could get an anime adaptation of the rest of this awesome manga. I've seen the 1997 25 episodes a few dozen times and still love it. As long as they stick to the source material they can't lose lol.
I feel like he gave up his sight to be a master hunter His eyes are white and cloudy, his bow has a massive eye that then goes to his apostle forms head I imagine he likely failed to hunt his quarry one day and it led to a loved one not getting fed for some time leading to death. Being alone he had nothing to give but part of himself, something a hunter needs to function. That’s why he likes music now, because it’s the only thing he can really enjoy without sight. Hell, maybe Irvine is the Bow itself, and the body we see is simply a puppet
I think people are forgetting that the person chosen to become an apostle needs to be in total despair first before they could be given the "option" of sacrificing their most beloved in exchange for ultimate power but the sad reality is because of that despair the god hand could easily exploit and corrupt them basically erasing in their minds that they actually have a choice
kinda makes you imagine what they sacrificed, i know not all are as depraved n still have some sort of humanity or honor to them. Heck the slug count had some form of humanity because of his daughter n a tragic back story too
I'd love for hin to betray Griffith and join Guts, maybe by also learning that he killed his loved one or oarents because they were dying and had his blessing
One question for anyone willing to answer it... If guts ever for some reason became an apostle, what would his sporty form look like... (I know that canonly gurs would never... He has one if i recall, but refuses to activste it... This is just more curiousity on what the design of him as an apostle would be...)
