Absolutely loved this advice. Just what I needed to hear. I heard a while back the expression: "Launch and 80 percent." Essentially the same advice as your "Try before you're ready." If you overthink something, you just get Paralysis by Analysis, and then... you'll never make a move. Prepare within reason. And then... just go for it. Also, regarding "Failures = Opportunities" I heard Tony Robbins say "When we Succeed, We Party. When We Fail, We Ponder." (A personal favorite). I mean Heck, Arnold Schearzenneger's entire life philosophy is learning and growing from failure. Thanks Jay. And Happy Holidays. 😊
Awesome Jay! These are great lessons. Thanks for all you do for the VO community. 😊 I sent in an audition for Voice Over for the Planet - wasn’t able to secure a spot; however, I got some kind words from Kari and she’s keeping me in mind for the future. Extended my best wishes to her and am extending my best wishes to you for an amazing 2025!
needed to hear this now, especially #1. do you have a mental frame or trick that helps you get psyched about a project that doesn’t exactly inspire your enthusiasm?
Great question, and honestly fake it till you make it has worked for me sometimes. I’ll go comically large/enthusiastic for something and after a few minutes of looking/sounding like an idiot I’ll have rallied somewhat with genuine enthusiasm.
Wise words!!! thank you Jay
Thanks mate! 😊

Excellent lessons. I've applied these to my author career and am learning to apply them in my audiobook narration.
Thanks, Jay. After a 35 year career in stage management I can vouch for everything you've shared here. Onward!!!
