I understand FULLY your pain..i have had the same problem for many years. Ive have tried all of the meds, doctors and such, at this point my last option is surgery, which is happening soon. Hang in there as long as you can. I really dont wont the surgery, but everything else stopped working because my body got use to it. That pain is real...No one understands until you've been in that Debilitating Crippling pain that brings you to your hands and knees. I am a very self sufficient woman. Im very mentally and physically strong. But you gotta know when to ask for help. It is very much so a mental thing as it is physical. Praying For Relief. 🙏

MASSAGE, MASSAGE, MASSAGE! I kno you don't like them but it will help. Look for someone who does reiki, Reflexology, trigger point, craniosacral, cupping, Myofascial as well as the regular (Swedish, deep tissue)... Do an hour craniosacral, an hour Reflexology, and an 90 min or 120 min session of a combination of the remainder modalities listed above. Do this on different days or all in one day. Totally up to you. Also do yoga! YOGA, YOGA, YOGA! You can do this at home via a yoga mat and RUclips or find a class. I suggest the former. Go at your own pace... Just go to the point of pull and relax. You don't have to force it, just be consistent. Even if it feels like it's doing nothing. Trust the process 🙏🏿 💯 👌🏿 🕊♾️😇 Claiming your complete healing and growth during this bump! Happy healing, for each day will get better and better! ❤🙏🏿

I experienced this. Tried to hold out for a week to the point of not being able to move. I couldn't move, walk, sleep, or breathe without spasms. I ended up getting spinal decompression treatments at my chiropractor. Looks like you're getting pulled apart, but THAT was the best feeling thing ever. The machine moves extremely slow as to not cause damage. I didn't want to mask the pain with meds for fear of thinking I was all good and wasn't. Pray you heal from this!

I'm currently working through sciatica as a lifelong athlete - ~6ft tall, ~175lb - and empathize with your pain.
I'm about six months into recovery and admit the initial pain brought me to tears too, though my sciatica was caused by lateral cross syndrome. My nerves went numb in my right leg down to my big toe, but through initial chiropractor visits, then starting a youtube yoga regimen (2x daily; morning & night) & nerve gliding, it was fully restored within 2-3 months time. I'm still working my way up the kinetic chain now, beginning from my lower limbs to my upper back, but focusing on hip mobility, core, foot, and glute strength has given me the absolute most relief. The exercises require resistance bands - NO WEIGHTS - but are some of the most difficult workouts I've ever done. I'm about six months into recovery from my initial flare-up and have on occasion experienced the onset of (very) faint numbness in my big toe, but yoga and ice restored everything.
This injury has been a major wakeup call to prioritize my health because it's made everything more difficult - exercise, work, travel, etc. - and most of my injuries stem from long hours at a computer and poor mobility maintenance. I'm 36 and know a guy that still hoops - and lives an active life in general - at 60+, and he dealt with a herniated disc when he was in his 40s. He had to quit basketball and started swimming only after asking other guys his age what to do. I've known him for a few years and take him at his word, but he swears swimming is the only thing that helped him - if he does yoga, he won't admit it. He still hoops, cycles regularly, and is keeping his wife happy - TMI on his account, but if I gotta hear it you do too.
Right now, I can't miss more than a day or two of yoga before my body starts trying to realign itself into old shapes. Increasing my end-to-end range of motion and keeping a cardio foundation through walks/short hikes has been my focus, but I'm slowly moving into strength training. Knowing my athletic capability though, it feels like being stuck in first gear. I've had two knee surgeries - meniscectomy & ACL reconstruction - and this has been the most frustrating recovery of them all. But I've been re-educating myself as an aging athlete - yoga, mobility, diet, and exercise literature - and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, which brings me to near tears just to type.
I'm so thankful to have a strong support system throughout this process, and because of that I know you'll be just fine Marcus. Be blessed, Tanksleys. Rooting for you💪🏿👊🏿🙏🏿
SN: To clarify, my learning path in yoga hasn't just been in achieving the shapes or strength to move through poses, but the mental aspect (neuromuscular connection). A lot of sports require quick, explosive, and powerful movements. Yoga & mobility are on the opposite end of the spectrum; Julius Peppers and Ichiro Suzuki are great testaments to the benefits of mobility work.
When tired from sports/movement, the strongest (and largest) muscle groups take over while the smaller, weaker ones don't activate. If you don't do anything to restore that range of motion afterward, those muscles stay inactive while the larger ones take over. Gradually, the smaller, finer muscles that support greater functionality become dormant and your bigger muscles overcompensate on your musculoskeletal structure - pelvic tilt, under/overpronation, kyphosis, etc. In the end, all your power becomes trapped inside your body because the nervous system signals to the brain that it doesn't feel safe/supported in (whatever) the position it's in because the actual musculoskeletal system is either as taut as a bowstring or weaker than wet cardboard. Tight fascia prevents muscle growth, so the body has to be hydrated, stretched, and mobilized to increase blood flow and oxygen to the area and as physical space is created/opened up in the body, the brain is able to move into "rest and digest" (parasympathetic nervous system) and move out of "fight or flight" (sympathetic nervous system).

I love Angel more & more every podcast 🥹 Hope you’re still feeling better Tank 💪🏾 I appreciate you guys’ Take It Or Tank It perspective. Some men expect us to be broke & helpless just to get with them and…still be broke & helpless 🫠 I never understood why so many “alpha” men can’t be with a strong willed woman who can protect & provide for herself. I’d like to think that would make the men have all the more reason to achieve more but I guess not 🤷🏾‍♀️

Oh Marcus! Unfortunately, I know your pain. Yes, take the wheelchair assist at the airport. You’d never make it with all the walking, standing and pulling. I’m much older than you and never had a mobility problem, but I had to swallow my pride and get that airport assist. Hope that you receive full relief soon. Angel, you are so gorgeous--physically and spiritually. Always wishing you two the best.
