I have been living in Istanbul for a year now. It is warm and has a lot of greenery. I love the cries of seagulls, the views of vibrant city neighborhoods, and the meditative prayers from mosques. The architecture in the city is diverse and impressive. My favorite mode of transportation is the surface metro, which runs along the coastline of the Sea of Marmara.
if the traffic was a bit less and there were some less idiots(the people are mostly not bad but there are exceptions) and drivers were a little better İstanbul would be the perfect city
I was just in Istanbul last week. Beautiful city and a cultural Mecca. Soo many thing to do and not enough time. People are very polite and very friendly. Although it is true that once you engage with the merchants they won't let you go. Food is delicious and very affordable. A city easy to get by foot to the main landmarks. You feel safe at any time wherever you are. I recommend to visit Turkey and have a wonderful vacation. I would go back anytime.
Yes there is and many taxis around everywhere so it’s easy to flag one down (and cheap to get a ride). The only downside is the traffic. In the downtown area it’s very congested and you could be not moving for a long time. The metro would be faster but it’s less easy
@@worldwildhearts Take comfortable shoes, there is a lot o walking to do and streets ma be steep in some areas. Lots of stairs to climb, specially in Cappadocia…… Have fun and enjoy!!!!!!
Oh, and the Blue Mosque 🕌 is being restored. Everything inside is covered. They pray 5 times a day. Make sure you go when they are not praying because you can’t get in. Otherwise you have to go back later. Also take socks along when you visit any Mosque. You cannot bring any shoes inside. The Suleymaniye Mosque it’s beautiful. The area of Sultanahmet has a lot of the historic attractions and little stores for shopping. Watch the videos of Turkey on RUclips. They are very helpful.
As a Turk, I would like to say this. Visit Turkey, eat food, visit mosques and historical sites. But do not argue with any Turks in traffic. You can get into trouble and fights can break out at any time.
If you come to Istanbul and stay for 5 days, you will never want to leave again.. Because Istanbul is one of the 5 most beautiful cities in the world..Of course it is a very crowded city..There is a proverb in Turkish; "Take the bitter with the sweet." Greetings from Istanbul to the whole world 🙋
I lived in Istanbul for 9 years, and a Bosporus cruise, all the way up to the Black Sea, is an absolute must. Government ferries are reasonably priced and leave from Eminönu every morning at 10.30
This is a great video for those with limited time in Istanbul. For those who have an extended stay I highly recommend exploring the Asian side, Kadikoy. Also Ortakoy and Bebek are amazing along the Bosphorous if you want to experience life like the local working professionals of Turkey and see some amazing views and get away from all the tourists. Great nightlife and amazing fine dining available as well!

The Bosphorus Cruise included stopping at Dolmabahce Palace, Rumeli Fortress then onto Bosphorus Bridge to the Asian side and visited Camlica Hill and Camlica Mosque in one day. Thanks for the video! What month were you there? I thought the long lines were more akin to the summer weather, but you looked bundled up like you visited in the winter.
We visited during the winter actually, in December. It was a few weeks before Christmas so the long lines could've been a result of the holidays coming up...
As an alternative to a boat tour, just get on a ferry from Eminönü and travel across to Kadıköy on the Asian side, you'll be able to enjoy the classic Istanbul skyline and maybe feed the seagulls too. Just don't show interest in venders pushing their products just say; sadece bakıyorum. ( I'm only looking). This will make them believe that you know Turkish and they will hopefully back off. If not just walk away and ignore them. This is a useful tip when visiting all of Turkey. There can be huge variations in prices at restaurants on the same street so check the prices before eating. Definitely stay in Beyoğlu, on the European side. You can ride down a funicular train at Tünel and cross the Galata Bridge on foot or take a tram to the Sultan Ahmed Mosque where you'll find Hagia Sofia and The Topkapı Palace close together. Some great advice in this video. Enjoy this great city
I went in late december! We might have been there at the same time. We did everything on your list! It's great going during shoulder season so you miss the crowds.
