Disney's Animal Kingdom is one of the least attended parks at Walt Disney World Resort. That's a huge problem for a place that has Pandora. So how can it rejuvenate attendance in the face of an upcoming Epic Universe? And how can it do with with as little investment as possible? Today we're starting our Fixing Disney World series of videos where we'll explain what Imagineering SHOULD be doing!

I do like Pro's ideas of Australia and Antarctica lands. Keeping a general ANIMAL theme is a great idea. I would put an actual roller coaster in Pandora, I would 'renew' and update Dinosaur ride, and yes as Vash says, modernize the cars but also update the actual cue show (so old) and also add a few screens on the ride itself to modernize the special affects. I would burn down Dino land and put a fun dino themed roller coaster there with top notch theming as well.
In 100% agreement with EVERYONE on some type of moving vehicle ride to waste time (15-20 minutes) like the people mover, however I have a feeling it would be nightmare to plan through Animal Kingdom, as there is far too much foliage in the way. As Vash said, they maybe need to concentrate on transportation beyond buses and connect the Hotels to the park properly. A hybrid train like Culture mentioned is a great idea, shaded overall with solar panels (that likely power nothing if Disney track record is taken into account) with a walk way underneath it in shade as well? It could be off ground a ways to allow paths and roads still (if planned well this could be cheaper).
I like this type of show! Bring a tiny bit of positivity back to a Desperate Disney.

I strongly disagree on updating the show in the dinosaur ride. All the new que shows are incredibly lame with bad acting. You can easily tell the people on screen are reading off a script. That’s my only issue with the Pandora ride. The current show in Dinosaur feels very authentic and I don’t trust modern Disney to have the skill to capture that authenticity in a remake.
I do however agree that dinoland itself needs a big makeover. And seeing updated animatronics in Dinosaur would be super cool.

Adding the Skyliner would greatly benefit this park and the areas around it. It’s the only disconnected park. Connecting it would elevate the experience at Disney.
Honestly, the Skyliner is fun to ride on a non-park day especially if you are spending a vacation day poolside and/or resort hopping.

@@piperian3962 But they already have expedition Everest, not far at all from the Kilimanjaro Safaris experience? A rollercoaster far off in the corners won't affect anymore then the train or Everest I think...

@@talyn6486 I do enjoy the pre-show for Dinosaur, BUT objectively it's really long in the teeth. I don't object to bringing back the original actors and re-doing it as it was, but in modern CG and in 16:9 and 4K on bigger tv screens. I wouldn't change the ride itself either, just update it a bit. ADD, not take away.

San Diego wild animal park has something called “Roar and Snore” where people pay a premium to come in and sleep in tents overlooking the elephant and lion roaming lands. You enter a special reserved area at around six pm (open certain months of the year)- and are escorted back by your campground manager who has your pre-assigned reservation and how many people in your party. They feed you dinner, in a pavilion including camping style smores around a fire, have some after dinner light entertainment, and then its lights out at a certain time and you go to sleep. You’re awoken in the early hours by lions and elephants roaring in their natural habitat enclosure. They feed you breakfast, you pack up, and go. It’s a pretty neat experience and great photo opps even though the animals are still far from
Your campsite. They provide the tents, cots, bathrooms, pre-arranged meals etc. and you just bring your sleeping bag and a change of clothes. Disney could easily do something similar at a pretty low cost. Everyone on RUclips would fight each other for the reservation slots and bragging rights just to say they had done the overnight experience.

I’ve always had a problem with this parks lack of rides…but it’s called ANIMAL Kingdom…and they haven’t added any animal attractions since it opened. Just having animals from Africa and Asia is a mistake. Why wasn’t Australia or South America or Antarctica ever considered?
The park should have another walkthrough or two…5-6 smaller dark rides, a log flume, and another major coaster E ticket. 26 years old and it’s still a half day park.

  • @NecheBro

I think Disney is forgetting the analogy of filling a bucket (the one where you fill it with rocks, then pebbles, then sand). They can fill the parks with the big-ticket items, but in order to truely fill them with a wonderful guest experience they need to fill it with great little-ticket attractions and small things that fill out the experience. I feel like they've forgotten about that in the movies as well. While I haven't been to the parks in about 15 years, from what I've heard about them think they definitely need to have more distractions happening because a line-of-sight can only immerse guests so much.

This is some of the best advice/thought/planning that has exposed itself to WDI and Disney in decades....and you guys are giving it away. THAT is the main problem--worse than spending real money smartly, Disney HATES free "Not Invented Here" ideas. HATES them. Stupid, but...there we are. One other major thing this does (and when I say this I include CC's people mover concept--brilliant!) is obviate the "another gate" issues--increased capacity, increased transport, increased hot-weather creature comforts and all w/o the "start from scratch" infrastructure of a whole new park. That SHOULD mean that ANY of this can be done FASTER than the usual snail's pace of Disney construction even when NOT replicating established stuff. And, again, that's why the Igerverse will never buy any of this or what I'm sure will be great ideas for the other parks coming up. Nelson Peltz, call your Pro-office! :)

Disney does not want to add any new animal exhibits to DAK. I believe they underestimated the massive expense in obtaining and maintaining the animals. Without live animal exhibits, adding new lands based on different areas of the world (eg the Americas) would be completely pointless and would just turn DAK into another Epcot.
As for Dinoland, I have a way to retheme the land while still making it about Dinosaurs. The storyline can be changed to have it based around the historic Bone Wars and incorporate S.E.A. (Society of Explorers and Adventurers) into the mix by giving the land more of a late 1800s theme. The Dinosaur ride would still incorporate the time machines but redesigned to fit a steampunk theme (think HG Well's The Time Machine). The plot where Hester and Chester was is enough room to put a roller coaster that sends you through a fossil site. This would give the land a more original and unique flair than just being a standard land based on dinosaurs.

Here at the Southern California Disney parks, California adventure badly needs to be fixed too. They were on the right track about 10 years ago with the addition of buena vista street and cars land. But it seems like after that the good additions stopped. Instead of fixing the other problem areas of the park iger has decided to just cheaply re theme them. Pixar pier and San fransokoyo adding nothing new and was just a cheap visual re theme.
Avengers campus was a new land but was done very cheap, not to mention web slingers is one of the worst rides in the park possibly worse than superstar limo. And it’s been 5+ years yet they keep dangling that avengers e ticket ride like a carrot in front of our noses, but they haven’t even started construction on it yet. Basically California adventure is just “meh” aside from the grand Californian hotel/area, buena vista street, and cars land. The rest of the park badly needs fixing and it’s still barely a half day park.
They are probably going to do that avatar addition as cheaply as possible too, most likely it’ll be a re theme of the grizzly peak area. So most likely dca will never be fixed and will always remain as one of the worst Disney parks aside from Disneyland Paris

Connect Animal Kingdom to Animal Kingdom lodge via train or boat. This should have been done years ago!!!! Add nighttime show in existing theater. Re-theme Dinosaur to Indy. (One of the best rides at Disneyland.) Add new giant land to the east to bring in several rides, thus creating a full day park that AK is not currently fulfilling. Bring back ride sponsors to help underwrite the costs.

Great ideas. My suggestion for Animal Kingdom would be to get rid of Rafiki's animal watch (or whatever it's called) and replace that with literally ANYTHING more interesting. I usually go to Disney World about every 5 years and I always skip this area because there's really nothing to it. It's a bit of a waste of time to be honest.

  • @Pro-Zilla

As a viewer, I've thoroughly enjoyed your content, finding your humor and informative style particularly engaging. I do have one suggestion for improvement, though: I believe that adding visual aids like bullet points or highlighting specific areas on Google Maps during the discussion would improve the clarity of the video and make it more engaging for viewers.
Now, onto the main points about AK:
I support expanding on Pandora, especially with a themed ride for the upcoming movie and the idea of a Banshee hatchery with a giant animatronic Banshee. There's definitely something that can be done there, especially with the shoulder toys Disney already sells. Converting the Rainforest Cafe to fit the theme would be brilliant, creating a dining experience surrounded by glowing creatures. Having the forest breathe life would be a strong selling point that I see influencers eating up.
Regarding Dino Land, I agree with updating the system and cars, but I am against having a cue show. I would prefer not to stand through cycled campy exposition; it would be wiser and more cost-effective to make the cue interactive and allow guests to piece together what's going on. Aside from adding more rides, I thought about having a dinosaur show in a shaded area, with walking dinosaurs captivating the passing crowd.
Speaking of shaded areas, Antarctica Land would be HUGE for Disney! A place to chill, literally. It's interesting that Everest and Antarctica are on opposite sides of the park. I also agree with the transportation bit, but I'm not entirely sold on the mode of transportation just yet.
My last statement is regarding Australia. I love the idea! It's a smart move considering the available space. However, Disney needs to be very careful with using Bluey as an attraction/experience/segment. Considering the (generalized) political views of Bluey's fanbase, it's crucial for Disney not to disappoint guests or risk losing influencer support. I am confident Disney would not be able to take that kind of hit on their reputation. On the other hand, if they pulled it off, the amount of praise and backing received would be large.

I hope they don't de-animal Animal Kingdom like they are de-future worlding Epcot Center. So, I am all in on the Arctic indoor building. Before we remove anything.. so counting everything there now.. we need 3 more rides/attractions and 3-5 more dark ride/exhibits in the park now. Pandora Coaster or any coaster and the others need to be indoors. I know they cheaped out on Navi River and made as much of it outdoor as possible.. but that needs to stop IMO.. lol. Also at the very minimum connect Animal Kingdom Lodge to Animal Kingdom.. maybe make that some pseudo Giraffe or something people mover ride to the Lodge. but there needs to be a connection so you can have that parking lot act as a bus hub at the very minimum..ideally a Skyliner station to connect you the rest of the world.

Disney fired/let go/pushed out everyone on the imagining team who gave a darn, and they're blowing them any budgets that could go to fixing the parks on smear campaigns against Trian. I went to WDW three years ago, and my favorite part of the whole experience was Disney Springs, which is basically just an outdoor Mall of America. Wanna know how I'd fix Animal Kingdom? Build the Beastly Kingdom as they promised back in the 90s! Real animals, extinct animals, and fantasy animals were going to be the original theme of the park, but they abandoned it! They have the money, they can build it now!! I wanna see some dragons and unicorns!! Everything doesn't have to be an E-Ticket. But indoor and cave attractions are good. Why not a slow-moving boat ride like Small World or Pirates. Even on a hot day in Anaheim, these are a good place to hide from the heat. An Amazon boat ride that is an upgrade to the Jungle Cruise could be interesting. Some dark rides? Disney is definitely missing the opportunity to lean into the night events in the park. To see and experience these different environments at night could be a whole different experience. Some of my fondest memories of being at the park are experiencing the silence and stillness in the evening hours. It would be interesting if Disney could make this an evening destination. Arrive before sundown, perhaps have dinner in a tree house in the Amazon, and cap off the evening with a show. I am conflicted with whether the Beastly The Kingdom heart is a land or an overly with all of the continents represented. Lots of potential with this park, it is just disappointing that 3 attractions (Everest and the two avatar rides) are all that have happened. Here at the Southern California Disney parks, California adventure badly needs to be fixed too. They were on the right track about 10 years ago with the addition of Buena Vista Street and Cars Land. I am, however, a huge fan of Dinosaur and I hope the land can be kept and renewed so that awesome ride won’t go extinct. I love Indiana Jones but… this is Animal Kingdom. @Casino YES!!! Your people mover would allow another way to enjoy and advocate for Disney’s animal conservation program. But then as a runner and a runDisney runner, your people mover walkway is brilliant. I love these ideas and these kind of videos. Great job Animal Kingdom was my favorite of the WDW parks when I went a few years ago. I could have spent all day just chilling in the Africa and Asia areas. Every time I hear they want to add more cheap IP or replace Countdown to Extinction with Indiana Jones it just makes me sad. Let’s do ALL these ideas. 😅 I LOVE them all! The Australian Outback sounds AWESOME!!! I love the Antarctic with Penguins. We must have a nighttime show back. We loved staying in AK late at night. Pandora Fire Nation ride is a must too. AK is skip park for us or AM park only. We don’t stay long but we used to. It’s a skip park when you have limited time in Disney and/or only a one-park pass or a one-day pass. Why would you waste a park day on AK in these scenarios when you get more time in other parks to maximize your spending? It’s a lesser park because of this, IMO. Anyways, they do need more ride capacity, especially in Pandora because Flights of Passage is such an awesome ride but the line is so long it’s not worth it unless you rope drop it. All great suggestions. I hope Disney listens. Just got a home phone call from Disney regarding the proxy vote. The HOME!!! Desperate. A real person asked for a vote in favor of Bob Iger's board selection. They asked for feedback. Stunning. The afternoon parade was great..😢Best bang for your buck fix the yeti. The only Disney theme park in the world that seems worth paying a visit to right now would be DisneySea in Tokyo. As for that park's neighboring DL, although that's mainly a knockoff of its counterparts in Anaheim, Orlando, Paris, etc, it's at least apparently well-maintained & reflects the "esprit de corps" of Walt E Disney----or the Oriental Land Co. 8 hours ago I love all the ideas you came up with! Right now all the fans on RUclips seem to have better ideas on how to fix the parks than Disney itself.. the execs at Disney are not fans of their own product and it’s shown. You all could easily take their jobs and the park would do tremendously better. I hope you're listening to Disney! Make Disney great again! I hope they don't de-animal Animal Kingdom like they are de-future worlding Epcot Center. So, I am all in on the Arctic indoor building. Before we remove anything.. so counting everything there now.. we need 3 more rides/attractions and 3-to 5 more dark rides/exhibits in the park now. I'm looking forward to this. During the cough, I passed the time by writing out how I'd fix WDW. I'm interested to see if I came up with anything that you three have, since I'm not a park goer I just enjoy watching videos on them and reading about them. I like 'planning' things so playing 'fix the parks' amused me. Edit: I do not understand all the parking lots... just making them two-story would make a lot more space... I'd do temporary two-story lots (those can go up in weeks) on half of a lot of the lots, and then put in multi-story garages. I'd also link all the parks and hotels I can with the skyline and Culture / Pro mention using the parking lots as I type. Edit 2: Really great ideas! -- Re Dinoland. If paying for Bluey anyway, why not see if can do a Bluey Learn about dinosaurs short then the kids go explore etc. in Dinoland. Concerning the Avatar coaster concept, why not have to go out and over the water area behind the Pandora location?

A lot of great ideas ... but why stop at Australia and Antarctica, why not include South America and Polynesia too. These don't need to happen immediately but as a map that may be filled in over a few decades. Definitely improve Dinoland not not replace it. Provide a loop that goes from SE from Dinoland and up behind Asia or what Pro called Land of Bluey. Everest would be the visual anchor of this side of the park.

I have always said thoroughly redoing and revitalizing all of Dinoland except the actual ride is the best choice for that area, both because it should theoretically cost less money than tearing down and completely rebuilding everything dinosaur themed. Dinosaurs when done right are far more timeless than any specific IPs.

When we went back in October 2022, we went to Animal Kingdom got a lightning lane for the Safari in the morning and it broke down right before we got on. Then we stood in line for 45 minutes at a quick service to try to get food. We literally left the park after 2 1/2 hours because it was impossible to walk anywhere without bumping into people because of the narrow pathways, we chose to just go back to our Airbnb and bite the bullet and basically throw away that money for those park tickets for that day because it wasn’t worth the headache. That is so poorly designed it’s mind-boggling.

Top 10 Improvements to Dino Land at Animal Kingdom according to me
    10. Add a dinosaur/extinct animal theme carousel
    9. Add a reptile house - Considering Dinosaurs are reptiles
    8. Add a bird house - Considering Birds are living Dinosaurs
    7. Add Med-Size Fossil Museum where you learn about earths history and check out fossil displays
    6. Add a ride base on the movie "Ice Age" Considering Disney now owns the rights to the films when brought out FOX
    5. Add a giant Ichthyosaur fountain with ammonites as smaller fountains
    4. replace Restaurantosaurus with ANOTHER T-Rex Café
    3. Add a fossil gift shop where you buy fossils from shark teeth trilobites to Dinosaur teeth to replicas of fossil skulls
    2. Add a Earl Sinclair and Baby Sinclair met n greet - You might want bring a box of asprens with you incase Baby Sinclair starts beating you over the head with a frying pan shouting "Not the momma! Not the momma!"
    1. Replace Dino Rama with a botanical garden complete with Ginkgos, Cycads, Magnolias, Wollemias, Sciadopitys and Horsetails with statues of dinosaurs (such as Stegosaurus, Deinocheirus, Sinosauropteryx, Yutyrannus, Ouranosaurus, Microraptor, Microceratus, Yi Qi, Aracheopteryx, and Nasutoceratops) and other ancient animals. (Such as Lystrosaurus, Dimetrodon, American Mastodon, Tapejara, Meganeura, Arthropleura, Thylacoleo, Sivatherium, Megatherium, and Titanoboa.) just like the Crystal Palace Park

Great ideas. I kind of like the idea of a refurbished DinoLand but I would say that, since Uni owns the rights to the Jurassic Park IP, unless Disney goes really big and really expensive on Dinosaurs, they lose the comparison game. It may be enough to have good quality along with everything else but Uni's JP stuff is really good.

Animal kingdom is a beautiful park. However it is miserable most of the season because there isn’t any shade at all. It is also huge and a pain to get from one side to another. Some sort of ride that goes around the outside of the park would also be a good idea.

I would like to see more lands themed around prehistoric life before and after the dinosaurs, maybe even one prehistoric sea life with a ride featuring a megalodon. And if they want to do an IP based ride, they could do an Ice Age ride. Or a ride that takes you to Prehistoric Australia, imagine all the crazy prehistoric creatures that you could make animatronics out of. Or maybe a land based around Cryptids like Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, and Chupacabra. They already have the yeti, so it makes sense to add more cryptids. And a land based around cryptids would be the perfect place for a Gravity Falls Ride.

Believe it or not, Sesame Place in PA will have Bluey characters available for meet and greets during the spring this year. They will also have PJ Masks characters. It's similar to what they do during Halloween time where they actually license out the Square Pumpkin character from Disney (I forget his name). They also do the same with the Rank & Bass Rudolph and Bumble as meet and greets during Christmas.

It’s a skip park when you have limited time in Disney and/or only a one park pass or a one day pass. Why would you waste a park day on AK in these scenarios when you get more time in other parks to maximize your spend? It’s a lesser park because of this, IMO. Anyways, they do need more ride capacity especially in Pandora because Flights of Passage is such an awesome ride but the line is so long it’s not worth it unless you rope drop it. All great suggestions. I hope Disney listens.

I'm looking forward to this. During the cough, I passed time by writing out how I'd fix WDW.
I'm interested to see if I came up with anything that you three have, since I'm not a park goer I just enjoy watching videos on them and reading about them. I like 'planning' things so playing 'fix the parks' amused me.
Edit: I do not understand all the parking lots... just making them two storey would make a lot more space... I'd do temporary two storey lots (those can go up in weeks) on half of a lot of the lots, and then put in multi storey garages. I'd also link all the parks and hotels I can with the skyliner and Culture / Pro mention using the parking lots as I type.
Edit 2: Really great ideas! -- Re Dinoland. If paying for Bluey anyway, why not see if can do a Bluey learns about dinosaurs short then the kids go explore etc. in Dinoland.

As far as rides go I would add a roller coaster like big bear mountain at dollywood that things is long and low to the ground and with all lsms its a pretty quiet ride that both kids and families enjoy. Add to that a screaming swing like the one just added to Busch Gardens Tampa, a mack water coaster like the one at seaworld only bigger, and few quality flat rides and you've solved capacity for the park with rides that will all be popular in the heat of the summer.

Remove the carnival from Dinoland but keep dinoland, maybe another dark ride there but dinosaur needs to stay it needs lots of maintenance it’s been neglected or watered down in a few scenes. Two: Antarctic is a nice concept likely make it a huge building as a Epcot building the area would have a chill even before entering the building like turn on the snow machine once it is getting to be sundown. Three: Australia can be a safari I see it only that way to work best… 4th: I don’t mind disco yeti but I’d like to see him move, it’s amazing when you see him reaching down to grab you, mention too about completing the backside of the mountain it’s not the best view when you’re at summit plummet at blizzard beach.

They should get rid of the idea of building a Zootopia show in the Tree of Life and build a better attraction for Zootopia. And while they’re at it, finally give Lion King (1994) a land or an attraction. I would also recommend instead of Encanto in tropical Americas, replace it with Paradise Falls from Up. But what about, replacing Dinoland USA with Beastly Kingdom?

Disney needs to learn to create solar panels with Disney characters depicted on them. Or anything that's big, flat, and dark greyish -- monoliths from _Atlantis_ maybe?
Seriously, making solar panels _not_ look like solar panels could revolutionize uptake of panels. Disney's design teams could be instrumental in that.

I like your ideas, especially the extra transit and new Avatar coaster and the new lands. I thought they should make Dinoland should be flipped to a Wall-E themed land. This may seem odd but if you think about it the film really talks about the way humans destroy Earth with overconsumption and being lazy and end up leaving the planet cause if this. This is perfect way to do some edutainment and talk about these themes while you see some robots from the film wandering around the area like Wall-E himself.

I think a good ominmover ride they could do would be a “planet earth” themed one. Some kind of combination of spaceship earth & living with the land incorporating both animatronic and living plants & animals - maybe even the augmented reality of nemo and friends. Add in the hot/cold and scents of test track and soarin’. In the end you’re not going to have something too unique but a combination of existing and proven technologies on a high capacity “break” ride out of the elements.

I would increase mileage of the train. It is underutilized in the current location. It is the only train that I know of that is directly in the park. All of the other train and their stations are on the outskirts of the park while the animal kingdom train is directly in the park. Moveing the train to the outside allows for more travel time in between the two stations while at the same time adding more stations for pandora and any other station that gets created for other attractions. The space that the train currently has right now would then be available for an Australia 🇦🇺 and Antarctic area with out having to shorten the train trip. Also, moveing the train could reuse most of the tracks and can connect the resort to the park.

🙄 Take apart the yeti, and REBUILD Everest. Enough with the expansion - maintain and fix the problems, stop adding to the budget and ticket prices.
Disneyland Anaheim. Stop too with the expansion! Scrap and start over with California Adventure. It's exactly EVERYTHING opposite of what Walt Disney openly said he DID NOT want- a Coney Island with carnival rides. Jumpin’ Jellyfish. King Arthur Carrousel. Another carrousel -Jessie’s Critter Carousel. Golden Zephyr...and another rotating ride inside out emotional whirlwind. Silly Symphony *Swings* and Goofy’s Sky School ARE ALL CHEAP carnival rides and double up!
Spider man and toy story are double the same ride experience. Can't make this up. Spider man ride is the biggest disappointment since marvel land open.
Disneyland Anaheim should preserve Walt original works and stop culture cancelling certain themes (wenches).
Keep activism and politics OUT of the parks!
Stop expanding and deal with the issues first! Better pay, and have an tendance cap, stop flooding the parks for profits.
If you want more solutions, pay me.
