I feel the same way. I know that you want it all to be consistent but honestly those raw pine doors are stunning. Also, I think that crown moulding (I know that different countries call it different things … who knew?) beautifully finishes any room. But, that can wait. Your home is absotively gorgeous. I adore Cornwall. I live in Southern Ontario near Niagara Falls but would trade in a heartbeat. La di dah!
I’m voting to paint them too- sorry! 😅 I like the pine don’t get me wrong, but I just think it might look a little odd for them not to all be the same. Unless you sand down the door already painted and have the pine showing on it. Cohesiveness I think is key
Thank you for sharing your #gardenfails. Honestly you're the first person I've heard from that hasn't boasted perfect crops on their first try. How refreshing.
The colour is EVERYTHING……like walking onto a Jane Austen set……I love it all! I also agree with doing the trim a creamy white. Also…..yes to painting the landing….do it❤
The hall colour is wonderful. Really loved the crumble section. It's so interesting to see other people's take on the recipe. The one I make you gently stew the fruit in sugar for a few minutes before adding it to the dish. I have never added nuts to my crumble topping, but you have inspired me. You might find peeling apples easier holding your peeler the other way round? (with your thumb close to the blade rather than at the top of the handle). Thanks for sharing! 🤍
The colour looks lovely ❤. Good choice. I’m not a gardener, but everyone in my family is and I hear the same thing from them every year, Maddie. I think you just get used to how impossible it is to keep on top of *all* of it and adjust your expectations accordingly. And every growing season throws some new challenge your way so even when you think you’ve found a groove, Mother Nature reminds you who is really in charge 😂. Like all things in life, with more experience comes more confidence. I think, considering everything you’ve had on your plate this year, you did tremendously. But of course, you feel the way you feel and that’s the truth of it and for sure people will appreciate you voicing it. You’re definitely not alone in that 😊
Dear Maddie, I’m sure your Dad will tell you this but everyone feels like you do about the garden by the end of the summer! It used to bother me that everything feels so overgrown by the end of August! I garden from very early spring to the last day of July! I have August off as a sort of holiday at home. Then in September I start cutting somethings back, (not everything that’s dead, I leave some seed heads for birds and don’t cut hydrangeas or my ferns too early.)….
I second that..those beautiful natural pine doors are gorgeous...and extremely hard to find. The blue you chose is perfect, and with a warm white trim ...stunning! I think you and Alex are wise to revise your renovation plans...it is expensive and only in the social media world this need to do everything at once.. homes are meant to grow and be reimagined as you do..create a new story / history over time as you take root..Love the housecoat, keep doing Maddie, it's all good!
Appreciate you sharing your garden woes! I've started gardening a bit more this year, and it's bringing me a lot of joy but over the summer months it's a constant job - and I can only imagine how much work a garden of your size would be! You should definitely clear everything out and plant some beautiful tulip bulbs for the spring (but wait until about November to plant).
Maddie, as someone who has 7 month old twins, I can tell you that having children just changes your brain chemistry there is no time to think, you just 'do'! Even when kids come along, you will find the time because you won't have time to think about doing it, you'll just find yourself doing it! 🤣 like I started a RUclips channel 🤣 yes it takes me 2 days to edit something because I only have nap times, but it's fun and tbh, watching you all these years has given me the confidence to start, even with babies!! xx
You can make apple scrap vinegar, its like apple cider vinegar. 6 apple cores and peelings, 1 tbsp sugar and enough water to cover. Leave for a week or until it smells vinegary.
By the time you have kids, you will have different priorities then cleaning and painting the house🤭,believe me😂. I have two kids. I enjoyed the time with them more than cleaning and was happy to be able to spend my time with them. I did clean too,but that was possible when they slept and could wait anyway...that is always a very special time when kids are there, which i think should be enjoyed as much as possible. I always had a clean flat until the first child came. It wasn't always easy when they were little, but it was a wonderful time. Now,that they are big,not little anymore, things are different😊🦔🍁🍇. I love the colour of your hallway....it is beautiful. I always wished you would take that colour, but i think it is up to you anyway🤭. Please don't paint the lovely pine doors, they are so beautiful and look wonderful with the blue/green? hallway🥮🦔🍁🍇.
Maddie, just in general thank you for your lovely cozy videos. I can relate to a lot of things (except for the renovations, I just enjoy watching that:D) and they give me a sense of calmness.
I love the hallway color! Since the back entrance is darker you can always ask the electricians to wire more lighting back there and maybe a light over the hallway bench.
Hi lovely book cover … joyful, at your image. About the doors, the white goes so well with the bleu you chose. It’s even brighter than when it was all white for me. Hope you guys are doing okay (in the best possible way) i can wait to see the final result
We took our apples to RHS wisely one year and they confirmed we had a Victorian tree called King of Pippins and it was an original tree from the orchard that had been there before our house was built after the war so I wonder if The Eden Project might be able to help you
It’s quite common for apple trees, even fairly old ones, to be grafted so you can have different kinds of apples on the same tree (including a mix of cooking and eaters). Your red ones might be eaters and your green ones cookers xx
Thank you for sharing the gardening struggles! My fiancé and I just moved into a home in Southern California. I've only been in the state for a couple months, and we decided to start a vegetable garden shortly after we moved in. The only things that have been doing well are tomatoes and mint. It doesn't rain here often, but we got a lot when the hurricane brought it in a couple weeks ago. A ton of weeds shot up, and slugs destroyed most of the tomatoes. It was very disappointing. But I'm planning to get it cleaned up and plant even more fruits and vegetables!
Maddy, with the warmest of wishes and with zero intention of casting any shade whatsoever… you display all the classic signs of ADHD. Apologies if you’ve already addressed this on your channel previously. I think it may help to explain a lot of your mental health issues. Sending love❤ X
I’m going to save you going bald and thin was that rosemary oil if so it’s only to be used on thin patches or bald patches on the scalp left on for ten minutes maximum on wash day and rinsed off once hair starts appearing stop using it also if you use it as a deep conditioner treatment on your end’s again max 10 minutes wash your hair as usual this product is very strong and not for long term use and if you do use it in excess can have the reverse affect and cause excessive shedding and breakage thinning and your hair can become really dry it’s like only to be used a few times a month as a deep conditioning treatment on split ends and temporarily to help re growth it’s never ever to be used for overnight treatments at all it’s beautiful if used correctly and damaging when used incorrectly I hope I wasn’t over stepping I just feel like a lot of people jumped on the oil and didn’t understand the concept of it and you have a beautiful head of hair and as a woman who has used this and researched it for 8 years I feel the need to share this knowledge and save one head of hair at a time if I offended you I apologise in advance but if I saved you hallelujah ❤
Beautiful book cover! Broad Beans make a great winter cover crop and they’re flowers winter forage for bees and pollinators and soil nourishing for spring (and good plant based protein)😁
I thought for a long time this was the way to hold the peeler, because what would be the point of pulling the peels towards yourself and getting them litteraly on you sometimes. 😅 And I can only peel long veggies like cucumber, zucchini, carrots... The 'round' ones like potatoes, apples, I get stuck when the "curb", the round part comes, the oeeler won't go round it but just abruptly stop and most likely I'm also hitting my fingers. Don't know how to explain properly but there's not enough area on a spheric veggie to give me the comfort of using the peeler. I use the smallest, shortest blade knife I have and works well. Actually I'm still not 100% sure I'm holding the peeler right. Every person seems to have a different opinion about how it's done. I wish I could see the original user's manual. 😂 Also I think we didn't have a lot of them in my country when I was growing up, my mother didn't use one. I picked it up at some point and... 🤷🏻♀️
I peel a ton of apples regularly and I just use a paring knife. I have a thin very sharp one and I can peel the whole thing in one strip faster than one of those gadgets. Plus I don’t have to wash and store said gadget that I would only use occasionally for one job. Just one small little knife. But then, I use my knives for pretty much every job. I don’t have a processor either. It feels to me like twice the work to get the thing out, fiddle with it, clean all the parts, store it back away when I can just take out the right knife for the job and chop away. But to each their own, right? Whatever gets the job done 😊 But ya, I don’t find those peelers are of much use at all for round produce. They just make an awful mess and cramp the hand up.
@@northwoodfalls1403 yes, that's how I've done it until now and it works well. I did get my first processor last month (and I'm 40 yo) to use it on big batches, mostly for certain winter preserves I make where everything need to be pretty much mashed up. My grabbing hand started to hurt when I hold veggies very tight to cut very small cubes. But when I hold them loosely I'm fine. Also I won't use it to chop for a regular soup or stew that I'm eating over two days.. Big batches only... and I just figured let's get one just in case. But yes the old school way is very nice and doing most these things by hand helos my mind calm down and get meditative. 😊
cont. I start to weed at the end of September and then hoe off the weeds as they come through a couple of times the mulch where needed and add extra compost, if a bed needs it over winter. In jan or feb I prune the apple trees and a bit later cut back the roses. Sew some seeds inside or sometimes I leave it til later and buy small veg plants it takes the pain away lol! More than anything though enjoy the space. Get the summer house useable and May be go down there from time to time and make friends with it even if you don’t do anything to it! You don’t have to do what anyone else does either just do bits of it grew more flowers for cutting and only plant the food you will eat, not every vegetables. Also some things work and some don’t! getting someone in to do trees and hedges makes it all look better and mowing is a tonic for anyone. Xxxxxxx
I'm so glad you have decided to do the rest of your renovations yourself. It is fun to learn new things. I look forward to seeing all of your upcoming renovations. Even when we fail at something, we still learn from it. It can be so satisfying in the end. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs. I'm sure we all can relate. I'm also looking forward to receiving your new book too.
Maybe a weird request, but one of your previous videos you showed us a kale field which looks beautiful was it on private property or are you able to pick from it? I would love to see it up close if possible I think kale is just so beautiful 😍😍😍
Hello wonderful lady! This is your long time silent viewer. I feel the need to tell you how much your authenticity and vulnerability in your videos is appreciated and welcome. Also your warmth and generosity. Simply beautiful. I needed to say that. Thank you 🙏🏻 love, Maja
I LOVE your home. YOu are doing a beautiful job. I'm very impressed, and love your decorating style. Plus, the apples, garden, scenery, your pets....it's all so pretty.
Love the hall colour 👍🏼. I’ve just pre ordered your book. I’m not actually vegan but my sister is and I cook for her a lot. I was going to give it to her for her Birthday but I think it’ll get used more by me cooking for her than her cooking for herself 😂 ( lots of her’s there 🥴) x
Hi don’t worry - I’ve been gardening for more years than I dare to remember and gardeners energy always wanes in July/august - you start off with high energy & enthusiasm at the beginning of the year , the exciting part - sowing seeds anticipating all the lovely produce you’re going to be eating. But by the time august comes and the weeds have defeated you & you’re tired of watering, and let’s face it, you’ve eaten more courgettes than any normal person would ever want to.. it’s just the gardening year energy - it’s up and down, don’t worry about it! You’re doing good.
Husband has been asked (told )to pre order your book for my Christmas present 🎁 xxx Loving the colour just beautiful x Love to you both x Hope everyone feeling better soon xx
We've been renovating the whole house over the last three years and stopped ourselves adding any pictures/finishing touches in the hall since it's the through-passage, but we recently primed the hallway and up the stairs and put up our gallery wall! ! I cannot tell you how good it feels and suddenly it seemed more "ours". Even though we will need to add final paint and replace handrail etc., just having a fresh coat of paint and pictures up makes it feel less of a building site :D
Love the color you chose for the hallway. Hmmm yum to the apple blackberry crumble(love blackberry cobbler)Thanks for sharing with us. btw the cover for your book looks amazing.....awesome!!
I absolutely love the colours in the the hallway Maddie, you always choose the right colours for your home. I'm always amazed that for a young lady you have a lot of wisdom and i just love how you explain things, I think we could all take a leaf out of your book especially the younger generation to just slow down, take the time to make your house a Home yourself, so many get into unbelievable debt to try & keep up with this image on SM these days. I think what you & Alex have done already to this home is amazing and look forward to watching you carry on making it somewhere where you & one day your family can enjoy for years to come. That crumble literally made me salivate 🤤🤤
I’m so glum about my garden. I have beautiful planters that we paid landscapers to build for us with the intention of growing veg. Planted seeds in early spring and then completed neglected everything. Now they’re full of weeds and it’s depressing to look at 🙈
So glad you chose the blue that is like my bedroom colour. I think the bench should be a darker colour than the walls maybe to give it a period feel. Crumble is lovely. Baked apples with yogurt too.
Hi, love your book cover, must make you so excited, your crumble looks great, crumble topping is my favourite to, have to have a thick layer, hallway colour is really nice, really suits the space, it is difficult when your other half is away from you, but you get on with things, take care xx
Regarding the stains from the copper on your shirt, you could dye the shirt a darker color. This way you could continue to wear it everyday use instead of for painting.
Why not turn the vegetable beds into raised beds it will keeps the grass out and since you are so tall be a lot more pleasant for to not to bend over do much
Love the paint color! Of the living room door is always open it may look odd from inside the living room if half of it is painted. Good idea to wait til the end to see if you like it not painted
I hope Alex and his family are OK...i miss seeing him here 😌
Oh please don’t paint those beautiful old pine doors! I was just thinking how lovely the blue walls were looking with white trim!
same thoughts!
I feel the same way. I know that you want it all to be consistent but honestly those raw pine doors are stunning. Agreed!
Oh them doors are horrendous! Bright orange! Paint them please 🫣

Yes please please Maddie those doors are such character pieces already and they already compliment and even connect the hallway and kitchen🩷
The cover looks lovely! The yellow is so vibrant and sweet☺

I would paint under the stairs area white. It would make the area brighter with the sunlight coming in the doorway
you have to get a product called "rust stain remover" it will take those stains right out. i buy it in a big brown bottle.
Just pre-ordered the book! Omg I can’t wait ❤❤
love the yellow cover, it looks so warm and beautiful!
I personally prefer the look of painted doors and trim more. like wall trim and doors all the same color not wall and door same color but trim white
You can make apple scrap vinegar, its like apple cider vinegar. 6 apple cores and peelings, 1 tbsp sugar and enough water to cover. Leave for a week or until it smells vinegary.
the color of those crocs are really pretty though!
I am fixing to start our hallway makeover!🫶🏻🤍
The book looks great, going to ask for it at Christmas!
+You use the same ice cream as me, it tastes good with everything 😂
Great timing, just finally sat down 😊, hope you're well, can't wait to see hall ❤

That’s so lovely that you and Alex can chat on the phone for ages 🥰 My husband is useless on the phone 😂
OMG. I thought the same when she said that. My fiancé hates being on the phone.
Love that colour Maddie, and I so understand the all or nothing. I tend to do that and then do nothing.
Gorgeous hallway❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing the gardening struggles! My fiancé and I just moved into a home in Southern California. I've only been in the state for a couple months, and we decided to start a vegetable garden shortly after we moved in. The only things that have been doing well are tomatoes and mint. It doesn't rain here often, but we got a lot when the hurricane brought it in a couple weeks ago. A ton of weeds shot up, and slugs destroyed most of the tomatoes. It was very disappointing. But I'm planning to get it cleaned up and plant even more fruits and vegetables!
Have you tried a lemon juice and salt combination to get the copper stains out? Could be worth a try :)
please don't paint that lovely wooden door. The wood is beautiful so should not be covered in paint
Beautiful book cover! Beautiful hallway color! And delicious looking dessert! Nice choices all the way around. :o)
I love the natural wood with the blue color. Cottage homes beckon not to be matchy. You definitely picked the right color blue😊
Dye your linen shirt that was ruined! x
Do you have different versions of the cookbook with the metric system in it?
Lakeland do an apple peeler/coring machine, like the one you describe.
Ooooh I’m going to be getting one asap!
The color looks like a pastel Robin's egg blue. It's so pretty
Hallway is looking lovely already with just the 1 coat. Crumble looked delicious, the crumble top is my favourite part too so the more, the better 🤎
Maddy, with the warmest of wishes and with zero intention of casting any shade whatsoever… you display all the classic signs of ADHD. Apologies if you’ve already addressed this on your channel previously. I think it may help to explain a lot of your mental health issues. Sending love❤ X

and Mrs t Really love that shade of blue you have chosen well done its looking so nice
I've never seen anyone hold an apple peeler like that, which may be part of the problem. But you should definitely get the peeler/corneer machine!

What brand is the knife you are cutting the apples with?
Such a thrill! Congratulations! Will the recipes be converted to US oven temperatures?
I'm painting the inside of my rental. Living in Northern California.
After your first video i did wonder about the colour temperature for a british hallway, but it does look lovely that light blue-grey.
your blue hallway looks incredible. that colour was definitely the right decision :)
Maybe a weird request, but one of your previous videos you showed us a kale field which looks beautiful was it on private property or are you able to pick from it? I would love to see it up close if possible I think kale is just so beautiful 😍😍😍
Just about to make rhubarb and apple crumble, because of ur crumble 💚💚💚
What about trying to dye the linen shirt some sort of redish or coppery colour? :)
Maddie your book looks great. The yellow makes me feel so happy ❤

Have you tried a rust remover on your stained clothes?
thanks for the beautiful music
Great choice on wall colour! So pretty!
The book cover is beautiful!
I LOVE your home. YOu are doing a beautiful job. I'm very impressed, and love your decorating style.
Plus, the apples, garden, scenery, your pets....it's all so pretty.
Where can I find the crumble recipe?
Does rust remover remove the copper stains?
Don't peel the skins of apples! You can't tell the difference once its baked and it adds lots of nutrients! Please don't waste things unnecessarily ❤❤

I always associate English front doors with the color blue. Aren't gardens AMAZING? Even a small one will produce SO MUCH food!
Now they’re full of weeds and it’s depressing to look at 🙈
The blue is going to be outstanding. Great choice. Sending love light and healing to Alex and his family. Maddie we enjoyed your vlog. Hugs from USA ❤
RIT makes a rust remover for the laundry that works really well. Don’t know if it’s in the UK though.
Have a good day
I love your doors dont paint
So glad you chose the blue that is like my bedroom colour. I think the bench should be a darker colour than the walls maybe to give it a period feel. Crumble is lovely. Baked apples with yogurt too.
Hi, love your book cover, must make you so excited, your crumble looks great, crumble topping is my favourite to, have to have a thick layer, hallway colour is really nice, really suits the space, it is difficult when your other half is away from you, but you get on with things, take care xx
Regarding the stains from the copper on your shirt, you could dye the shirt a darker color. This way you could continue to wear it everyday use instead of for painting.
btw while you're chopping up a bunch of apples into a big bowl, make sure to squeeze and toss lemon juice over them so they don't brown.
Maybe you should Kilz the bench and paint it white. Then you can decorate for all the seasons. That blue is fabulous! 🌸
Love the Blue 🩷🩷🩷 Love the pine door too ! Hard to decide about painting wood good luck I like both !
Here in the US we have a product called Rust out. It will take out those rust stains. Maybe you can find some.
Ahhh don’t paint those gorgeous doors!!
Try a product called CLR for the copper stains on your clothes.
Pre ordered a few weeks ago but only coming out in January here in Canada.
The color of your hallway is beautiful! It has inspired me to use a similar color somewhere in my own home.
Great choice of colour.i would paint the doors white because your hall is dark.
Love, love, love the cover. I preordered it way back and cannot wait to get it.
Ohh please don't paint the door!! 😓💙
