    Hello Garry!
    I have a Clavinova CLP-123 electric piano. When I was 17, I got my mother. I am now 44 years old. :)
So, many keys were embarrassed. I cleaned and waxed with WD40 oil. Now again, it works nicely and well. Now my little girl, 11 years old, plays the piano and loves more than the Petrof pianino. Thank you very much for the video. Balázs Lévai from Hungary.

THANK YOU!! I didn't discover until I had my CLP 511 all over the floor that the spring style in mine was completely different from all the other videos I had watched. I was trying to get that metal bit back in horizontally--- you can imagine how that was going 😅. Don't know what I would have done without this. You deserve a medal 🏅

Thanks for this, it helped me figure out that I needed to order a new contact strip after taking some keys off and seeing tears in the silicone strip underneath. Was able to find the necessary part on eBay, from a seller in the UK. Got it shipped to the US in no time! (In case anyone is faced keys that won't hold the note when pressed, it's probably a tear in the contact strip where the hammer hits - which was the case for my CLP-250)

Just want to say a massive THANK YOU for your video which helped me repair my daughter's CVP-20. It was really clear and the steps to disassemble were exactly the same.
I cleaned the keys up using builder's 'wonder wipes' which worked a treat.
I did still have one sticky key after cleaning but worked out that the fixed return spring at the rear (not the one you can remove) needed bending up slightly. Once that was sorted it all worked well.
Also I reversed some of the removable return springs which gave the keys a bit more bounce, they all had a slight curve to them which reduced the spring force.
Thanks again, you really helped me out here!

Garry, this video helped me realize what was wrong with two of my black keys on a Clavinova CVP-305. I had accidentally pulled them out of their attachments. I did the opposite of your knife trick to get them back into the proper alignment -- pulled out gently while pressing down to the most proximal end to the key. Did not have to take it apart. Anyway....thanks!

Thanks for uploading this video. I have got hold of the exact same piano, which was in an awful state maybe cause it lived in old dusty church buildings. Thanks to your video I have dismantled it and cleaned it. Your video was very helpful, without it I wouldn't have dared to do it, but if I did I would have ruined it, mostly because I probably wouldn't have taken the metal bar of which gives you access to the springs. Following your instruction made the process surprisingly easy. I haven't tried it yet, I'm a bit scared and I want to test it before putting it together in case the problem is to do with the rubber contact strip. Because apart from some of the keys not working or being stiff with dirt and looking disgusting there was a sound problem with a couple of notes, when I pressed them lightly they made a dink sound just like what happens to some old acoustic pianos I've play'd strangely. But I've got a feeling it'l be alright thanks to you.

If you're struggling to get the TOP LID up off a CLP-560 (very similar), there's an EXTRA two screws to undo (total 6), which are on the side plates. If you take the front plate off, as shown in the video, you can see a white pillar connecting the top lid to the base. That's where the screw(s) are.

Hey there, at the moment i am trying to repair a clp 350. Thanks very much for that Video, as i've got dissasembled the complete Keyboard without any Problems or damages. It seems my hanging keys come from the lube and dust, as nothing on the mechanical side seems to be worn out. So i want to un-fat the Keys and after that lube them new. Will 70% Isopropanlo work on the Keys? And what lube to use exactly? Titan fat/lube? Thanks,

I have a Yamaha CLP-500 that has one instrument selection key that works sometimes, an Ebony key sticks up half way when pushing it, but still produces sound, and the first ivory key doesn't play any sound (possibly dust). Would the process be the same as your piano? The piano my family and I have is about 32 years old.

I recently inherited a CLP-360. It feels like the keys are very heavy. It has been a while since I played this keyboard the last time, but it's definately somewhat more pressure required to press the keys than what I remember. Could it be that it is lacking lubricant or something similar? It's an emotional item for me, so I'd love to get it in it's best shape. It's playable, but it's quite tiring right now.

Jacob. Take it apart and you may be able to see what is causing the loud sound. If there is nothing 'physically' obvious then you may have an electronic/board issue which is not necessarily harder but probably more expensive and will require something different from what I have demonstrated.

just got a clavinova cvp 50. the drums sound extremely distorted, but piano sounds sound fine. I opened top, ( possible by watching your video, thank you). I have a question. do you know what might cause the drums sounds to sound totally distorted. I have an electronics and I.T back ground. so am good with figuring out how to swap out parts or boards and even fixing things by component level repair. I am not afraid to use a solder gun/tool. I am not sure if it is from the button board or the main board were all the sounds are generated. my guess is that one of the audio processors may be shot. any input is appreciated.

Great job if your fingers were a glass window and you weren't videoing upside down I could have seen how you inserted the spring tab. At least I now know the general location and orientation of the spring. I took my C7 key out to see if I could clean the contact underneath because the key hardly makes a sound unless I have the volume up full on my Yamaha PDP-400 and then all the other keys are too loud. I did not remove the entire keyboard so I'm trying to reinstall the spring from the bottom horizontally. I may have to remove the whole keyboard and turn it over to get the job done.

A very informative video...I have a quick question. On my CLP 120, My D-flat 2 key is clicking when I strike it. Works fine, sounds fine, but feels like either something is under the front of the key, or a cushion has come off (if such cushions exist). I think what has happened is a guitar pick fell down between the keys and landed under that control arm. To remove this pick, if that's the case, would I use the same procedure? Thanks!

Garry, this has been hugely helpful. One question: Why would keys that were fine after being cleaned start sticking after the keyboard is moved back to be reunited with the rest of the piano? What if they don't stick when the keyboard is oriented vertically but they do stick when it is laid flat again? That is what we have encountered. We took the keyboard apart, cleaned the keys and hammers and reassembled it. (We couldn't have done it without your great video, btw!) The keys were all fine, no sticking. Then we moved it to reunite it with the rest of the piano, and some keys started sticking again These were not all keys that were sticking before we cleaned it. Any idea what is causing this? Thanks in advance.

+Angela Bradbery Hi Angela. I am glad my video was helpful for you. I cannot imagine why keys that were originally fine would stick upon laying the keyboard flat. Maybe you didn't get the control arms and the keys in right or properly aligned and while vertical they seemed OK but were not? Let us know what you find. Thanks, Garry

Great video thanks. In fact i have a key that has a metallic sound to it this might be the "spring"... I have had one of these for around 20 years and still playing perfectly. It is a great keyboard! Just out of curiosity, does any one knows how much this costed when it came out?

Hi, I fix electric pianos - just to clarify, removing Yamaha keys *is* done with a thin metal blade between the keys, generally where there's a small triangular mark pointing to the location to press. You're not pressing the spring down, but a locking tab built into the keybed. Pressing the locking tab down with a blade lets you push the key forward (against the spring, gently), and lift the pivoting end of the key out of place. This is also the appropriate method for weighted keyboards.

I should also point out that doing it with the blade means that you don't have to remove the entire keybed assembly to replace/clean a key.

I think these models from the 80’s don’t have that mechanism. Check the video, there are no arrows on these keys.

I play guitar in the church band. Don't play keys at all, but the clavinova developed a bad key. Drops out, doesn't play unless you really bang on it and even then it's intermittent. So they bought a different keyboard and put the clavinova in storage. My plan is to fix the bad key and finally learn to play keyboard. My gut tells me it's a contact problem? Background info: the keyboardist has a penchant for hammering the keys with his elbow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This is what makes me think it's a broken contact (if that's a thing with clav) rather than a cleaning issue. Any experience with this?
