  • Hey, just met this dam for the 2nd time. 4 weeks after 1st one. This time seems the dam is stronger than was before. A lot of grass they added, and mud. It tooked to me 50 minutes to deal with it :)

You might think about putting a 6” PVC pipe where you want the water level to stay. Put a large screen on one end so it won’t get clogged and an elbow with a removable pipe on the other. When you want the water level to drop just pull the up pipe on the down stream side. Saw this done in a Canadian park in a documentary about beavers. It’s amazing how much water a beaver dam retains due to the underwater channels they create (some are over nine feet deep). They create the channels to put the mud on the dam. Great places to fish by the way. The water stays cool in the summer and some of the biggest trout I’ve caught in streams have been in beaver ponds.

@Peter Parker Beavers live in lodges not dams, and when they flood fields or stop water from reaching fields they do hurt people’s crops. Post 10 has torn down plenty of beaver dams on his channel so I don’t know why you’re saying he has some sort of moral high ground.

@Peter Parker Have you seen what is beside the ditches with the dams? Fields of crops that need that ditch to get rid of excess water when it rains and to water the crops when it doesn’t. Would you rather the farmers and their families lose them or some beavers be inconvenienced? Not trapped or killed as he said they aren’t allowed to in his country. Go to the trapper’s channels and complain, the only thing getting hurt here is your feelings.

I've just recently saw the same building structure in Canada. The person who filmed that captured also that they not only lay sticks from the front side but also from the back side they build it up with sticks, like you see here (at the front they clearly stuffed them in the mud and added mud as last part but didn't add so much mud at the back, because no help of water movement 'gravity'. Only more loose stick as security force ) hope I explained it somewhat logical 👀🤔😊

How long, do you recon, it takes to build that one? It sure was sturdy! Research has said beavers are triggered by the sound running water makes and that is what the main reason for them to build as much as they do. Do you find that might be true? Cheers from Texas!
