ive been "blind surfing" for like 6-7 years lol! saveloc is news to me, i dont think any servers i go on have it. its made me very appreciative of good and communicative map design though
My first time on a tier 5 or less map i will usually try to surf without saveloccing or watching anything because blind surf is really fun
i surf without saveloc and always do my first run without watching wr bot. just so much more fun and rewarding when i beat a t6 or something without any help and then get to compare myself with the wr bot and play it over again to improve. saveloc just takes some of the fun out of the game imo since it becomes more about optimizing every part of the map and then running that route over and over again

I love seeing you struggle trying to get through a surf map the way I've normally played them for like 2 years xD
Very entertaining. I feel like everyone looks like a noob trying to surf a map for the first time without saveloc unless it's babby tier :)
I used to surf in 1.6 and this was the only way. There is too many things making it easy these days and takes the challenge/fun out of it.
Or it lets you push your skills far further than previously imaginable, being able to practise and understand the game on a deeper level doesn't remove challenge it heightens it. Why do you think new tiers come out? it's because as a community we evolve.
Fun's subjective but if you like spending 2 minutes at a time to choke the same spot for the next hour when you could stop and learn how to set up for it properly that's up to you.
Ultimately these are just tools and it's how you use them that alters your perception, if you run a couple times and find yourself getting stuck you can just drop a loc a bit before and figure out why the section is giving you trouble.
I feel there's probably some idiom out there about how the fool hates the hammer because it hurts his thumb.
@@kingkurtis not really, creating automated commands for something you should do and be rewarded with is much different, if you like auto pilot then good for you but like race car drivers its more about the raw experience and having no aids in between, its not always about lap times but having fun in accomplishing something all by yourself. What you are explaining kills the joy in it and makes it analytical. You should try to understand the art of something than being just a robot.

But if that's how you enjoy things though by all means enjoy them that way.
Personally I only loc when I get hard stuck or I'm mapping.
I can say that map quality has only improved since the creation of these tools.
Also if you reread what you wrote, you are arguing an oxymoron, if you are being analytical you aren't on autopilot, you're breaking something down to enrich your understanding of it.
Furthermore race car drivers practise on simulations constantly between actual races to refine their movement, control and understanding, they don't just get behind the wheel and hope they make it to the end.
You're definitely coming across as a curmudgeon that's cranky the world has changed around them.
Faster than Light
As someone who is grinding maps for completion points, biggest advantage of saveloc is how much quicker it takes to learn a map (especially hard ones). Yeah I could learn a t6 map w/out saveloc but if it takes me 5 hours longer that's time I coulda spent completing other maps. If you play casually and don't really care about completions then I get it, but if you're at all competitive it's really a vital tool.
I didn't even know saveloc was a thing, been surfing for like 5 years. I've beaten a few tier 4s i believe.

I’m old school. Never used save loc. I feel like it makes surfing way more fun personally. Also I think it honestly makes your reactions way faster.
I tested save lock for literally one day and then have never touched it again lol I have finally added turnbinds to my repertoire however. Around t4 the spins get too crazy to not use turnbinds lol.
