- Straight Lines live 2 days after the laryngitis performance. Dan's voice is sounding a lot better.
This performance also comes on the day of the announcement that some California shows have been postponed to allow Dan to heal his throat fully.
Man, this guy deserves everything and more. He a musical genius who has overcome so many personal battles. I've been a Silverchair fan since day 1 and I'm still a fan of everything Dan Johns is doing even today. This guy has stayed true to himself. Not many artists would do this. There are so many fake sellouts these days. We'll be lucky to see a genuine artist like this guys any time soon.
Yeah but nothing he does is as good as Silverchair. And as much as he doesn't like it,he Ben and Chris were meant to work together. But that's just my opinion
@@Jimmy.gatt.I agree
@@Jimmy.gatt.too bad Chris sold all his basses
I’ve been coming back here for 13 years. Love this song, love this version!
this live version and the jay leno show one are beautiful
Sadly I have also.
Welcome back brother 🎵🎶🎵
This version is actually far more emotive than the recording.
Listening to the studio version, I could tell it would sound much better live with the guitar higher in the mix.
Dear lord Daniel is absolutely a melodic genius.
You've got to be kidding,
@@JT-gm4fk ......I mean they’re right
^
@@JT-gm4fk Seriously. Can't they just play Tomorrow? The other guys in the band must have been like WTF? when they were told to play this. Daniel John's ego is way, way beyond his means.
@@alexwestconsulting so they are promote a new album using a song they put out nearly 15 years prior to this? Yeah good one
Wow his voice sounded great. Love the power of the song and the emotion he puts into it.
He was pissed that his laryngitis was keeping him down . Here he completely fought thru it like a vocal Rambo ....pretty inspiring, really
Very emotional performance.
Couldn't agree more.
I've been obsessed with this song the past year
The reverb on his powerful voice is amazing on this emotional version.
Reverb + Delay 👌✨️
oh also love the "HAA" in between lines at a few points trying to shock his vocal chords in to line and behaving themselves.. lmao.. fucking legend >.
One of the best songs ever made. An actual objective fact!
This is the first live performance of this song where Daniel has come close to hitting those high notes. It really shredded the fuck out of his voice. I saw them in the 90s and he was luminous. He's still damn fucking hot!
Dan sounds incredible considering how much he was struggling just a couple days earlier.
1:35 - 1:40
vocally one of my favorite daniel moments ever.
probably a combination of pushing to get the song out and the pain of singing with laryngitis; it's a really captivating moment. not used to such a vulnerable sound.
Something special about him having laryngitis and still screaming his heart out to make this such a cool performance!
its painful to watch knowing that hes got a problem with his voice. it almost makes me cry watching him try so hard and still gets the best out of his voice. i just hope to god (yes seriously) that he can somehow recover and come back with an even greater voice. then i would be in love forever and ever!
god bless you daniel johns, and silverchair!
❤️
watch the jay leno one hes pushes through like a true hero
hello petter everything worked!! thanks for the prayers
this has become probably my favourite chair song
its so nice even with his sore throat. Its raw and i like it. Better than on the cd for sure
I just saw this now .. the haters should be ashamed of themselves
Wah wah.
@@Doyledeth wah wah wah I love nirvana wah wah wah
@@JonnyBoyOfficial That's me in the picture, knobhead. lol
I'm not a hater per se, but this is terrible.
I saw and heard this for the first time live on late night . It was kinda epic. Still kinda is. Get pissed off and get well again Daniel we need more of you.
This is soooooo much better than the version on cd.
Gosh, what a voice!
I love how the band have evolved. Versatility at its finest! Specially Johns... from music, lyrics, compositions? Truly genius! Until now (2020), still admire his artistry. Awesome possum!🙌🏻
There's a difference between evolving and hitting your peak
@@JT-gm4fk there is, and they certainly hadn’t gotten their peak yet, they were full of so much more potential. It’s a shame they broke up.
These guys are so great. I remember when Frogstomp came out and I was and still am blown away that 15 yr olds could write songs like that.
The older you get the harder it is to hit those high notes....still awesome!
he was able to hit them at other shows, but he was really sick with laryngitis here. they had to postpone their shows scheduled in LA.
I did hear that afterwards also..good point!
***** Dude are you serious with AXL? Have you seen some of the videos lately? I get your point and agree for the most part but you used a BAD example in AXL sorry.
***** Hey just saw Axl with AC DC live. Totally changed my mind. Axl can still do it for sure. He sang some of Brian's songs and even Bon Scotts songs. Very impressed.
watch the jay leno one hes pushes through like a hero
the middle bit makes me cry its amazing writing at its best
This song is INCREDIBLY hard to sing. You wouldn’t think it would be, but it absolutely is! One of the more difficult ones I’ve attempted
He's still got grunge in his veins, I can feel it
This song is great but it must be HELL to perform live!
Wasnt expecting you here XD
damn 12 years ago
Glad you also like it!
Cereal
He sounds pretty good to have laringitis!!
This is soooooo much better than the version on cd.
Daniel Johns is an incredible musician with such a distinct and amazing sense of melody, great singer too.
Amazing vocal performance here
thats silverchair true musician
fucking brilliant for a guy with laryngitis
Saviour this band. Nothing like this will ever exist again.
LISTEN TO ART listen to the message of the freaking song this is not American Idol kids these Are artists that have spent many of years honing their craft to create art for u alone appreciate and educate yourselves Daniel you are and keep being such
a genius
Krushed it. Such a powerful song.
Gosh, what a voice!
I always enjoy when I live version of song totally destroys the recorded version.
hi tim
i'm impressed. Sounding good on the high notes
Great such an inspiration you go with your bad ASS self you r a beautiful team keep rocking thank you guys for making great music love u
He still fucking killed it!! I don't know anyone that can sing even a quarter as good...
>M
its so nice even with his sore throat. Its raw and i like it. Better than on the cd for sure
He sounds pretty good to have laringitis!!
The music sounds refreshing loved this
Uma das melhores bandas do pós-grunge. Uma pena que não existe chance de retorno!
GENIUS. as they have been for 13 years. even with laryngitis he's brilliant. don't know how he did it.
This song is awesome and empowering ...has woundup a favorite of mine
there's goodwill inside of me...........
This is soooooo much better than the version on cd.
I always enjoy when I live version of song totally destroys the recorded version.
they should be bigger than foo fighters...
hell yes!!!
Daniel Yoko Ono'd it.....
but they failed
Ben Should Now Be RECRUITED by foo fighters.
I can't think of a finer replacement
arguably one of the greatest Australian Rock Band of all time
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
they are big
This band never got enough credit. I look at him like Freddie Mercury passed the torch.
I always enjoy when I live version of song totally destroys the recorded version.
Watching this in April 2018...it still rocks. Good on them for doing what the fu** they wanted to do!
thank you for putting this up to prove to the haters that Daniel actually in deed had laryngitis on the tonight show with Jay Leno
Much better :) ! But still forcing the throat too :/ Good job, Daniel! You are great ;)
this has become probably my favourite chair song
Hell yeh!!
Go Aussie go!!
These guys deserve more fame......I just wish they still sounded the same from 1995-2000.
Such a distinctive voice
I still think he’d make he best Freddie Mercury in a Hollywood movie
Such a great song!!! They gave birth to kings of Leon
Lol wtf?
Love this version!
Young Modern is one of the most brilliant albums every written.
Thank you so much for posting this. I somehow got the date wrong and had it written down as being the 13th and not the 12th and missed it *sigh* you are officially my hero for having it posted so soon :)
and why are they not big in the u.s? huh, tell me!
luv this band!!
Awesome! Love it! Gonna listen again
oh fantastic performance! brilliant stuff
This is an insanely hard song to sing. I can’t sing this song without straining pretty badly. I think they sounded awesome 😎
this must be pre laryngitis even though it was wednesday when i saw them on Leno and saw this on the late late show thursday night/ friday morn so weird thanks for putting this up
Brilliant... Just brilliant....
Incredible !
Ahh...that's better. Thanks for posting!
Excellent
PROPS for not changing the key and going woosy on us. Live by the music \m/.
this actually was taped only a DAY after the leno show!
This is actually the version we deserved from Silverchair, specially if you still prefer the louder version of the band 😂
Wow, better than the studio version.
Such a good artist! everyones has there ups and downs but ill tell ya what DJ is my fav!
Silverchair has not broken up.. Ben Gilles recently said on Australian radio that they are on an "extended hiatus"... and if after watching this video you are still not sure why watch the Leno performance of the same song... they have been together a long time, touring and recording for most of it.. was just time for a break, that's all... Ben said it himself in a different interview saying "“I think the three of us just needed a real good break from the Silverchair world,”.. =)
Wowzerz!
Wow!
nice voice
agressive...
On record seems to fuckin' clean and pretty
The live version sounds better than the studio version. His voice even though it sounds off kinda adds to the song a bit more. I wish they perform songs like this more often. Live is better
He was sick
Agreed. This performance is great
His voice cracked Abit at 4:29 .....Daniel vs laryngitis ......Daniel wins
Is this song about drug abuse? This song kept me sober after rehab
Hell yea ...hope ur good....helps me too. Cheers
amazing!!
What I wouldn't give for that voice, even with laryngitis. You know how hard it is to write good music when every time you open your mouth shit comes out! They should release what they wrote before breaking up! Machina Collecta!
good live version!
I just saw this now .. the haters should be ashamed of themselves
Sounds like a Kings of Leon song... I think
this has become probably my favourite chair song
Is this song about drug abuse? This song kept me sober after rehab
I believe it's written to be interpreted and way you want to.
Especially helping you through a hard time
I did think its like walking straight line trying to be better
I also knew Daniel had to learn how to walk again.
He got such.
Even walking a straight line was challenging
Lol
Guess there are many ways to interpret lol...
some of the times he screams to hit the notes in the chorus, he sounds like Trent Reznor
amazing!
Awesome
Man...I remember seeing them perform this live on Leno and CRINGING. Felt so sorry for Dan in that position. Crazy that he kinda pulled it off.
This performance though, is much better. Super raw. :)
Second chance and... it doesn't ruin it again... on purpose I am guessing. He was over-excited on the first time. Here he is only contained. Great artist :)
He's finally getting the 🐸 out of his throat.
He sounds pretty good to have laringitis!!
this song is insanely high.
Daniel johns 😍💝😍😘☺💟💞💞💕💕💓❤💙☺
fuckin great performance, he was riding his voice to the fuckin edge there lol. as a singer....i've been there a few times
I like when they actually mean it.
i like it!!!
Hell yeh!!
Go Aussie go!!
good luck academy oooo oooooooooooooooooo
Ed Roland thinking when did I write this - or why didn't I
An aura of punk rock here
This. Is fuckin great.
