Is the VW Beetle Germany’s '32 Ford? | Chip Foose Draws A Car - Ep. 20

- Few cars put a generation of would-be motorists on the road in numbers rivaling that of the Volkswagen Beetle. Chip Foose feels the ubiquitous People's Car from Germany is much like a 1932 Ford, and deserves to be customized to reach its full design potential. Considering their price and availability, it makes sense to go a little wild: Chip alters large chunks of the Beetle's iconic body and makes an impressive roadster out of it.

Excellent. Now take a Plymouth Prowler and turn it into a Beetle!
Ppppñ}}}} p} ppp}} p
Remember...he is Chip Foose..☝️
Do you know Plymouth was designed by foose
There already is a VW Bettle hot rod. It's called a 356 Spyder.
Absolute genius. The tension line though the car. Chip is a true artist.
I don’t see the Prowler as much as I see Chips unifying form and function. Open wheels, chopped, elongated prow, possibly widened . Beyond a Manx, beyond a straight dune buggy, beyond constraints! Imagine this thing with a Ford V6 twin turbo?
My sentiments exactly.
hard to fit one of those in the back tho, which is where the bug has it's engine.
>> Imagine this thing with a Ford V6 twin turbo?
I remember early Chip Foose. Back when it was " Foose, yeah we heard of him". But Wow, what you have done to the auto industry, factory, aftermarket and hotrod and custom has been so influential. Anyone who digs autos in any form owes a debt of gratitude to you. Way to go Mr. Foose you paved the way for many to enjoy
You 'da man!
I realize it is pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to watch new movies online ?
@Remington Landyn Flixportal :)
@Kaiden Conor Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :D Appreciate it !
@Remington Landyn no problem :D
Chip I had some custom car but what did on this video shows when it comes to customizing YOU ARE ONE OF THE KINGS 🤴
Videos like this 15 years ago would have been so nice when I was learning to sketch and illustrate from being so inspired by Chip. Awesome videos and info Chip! Keep them coming!
Very cool Volks Rod. I did a 6 inch chop on my 1968 Bug back in 1978. Great vid!😎👍
I'd like to have my ol' '67 VW back. It was a special model with a 1500cc motor for that year. Actually, they were '661/2 year models that got titled for '67 and were all of one color...basic moss green metallic. Mine had the gas heater and solid "moon roof". Wish i had it again. That car was so much fun to drive. I like the one you drew with one exception and that would be to have front axle back a few inches from where you had it. Otherwise it was good :) I did a model of a VW with a turbo Buick v6 up front( with clutch)with a driveshaft back to the gearbox.
I've never seen something like that before, turning a vw bug into a hotrod, someone should come with a name for it, something like Volksrod for example. LoL
I think a simple VRod would be nice
@@sameersagar2890 Google Volksrod
Look up Plymouth prowler on google
I absolutely love Chip and his work. He has great skills.
What got me in the video was the fact that he has enough pens and pencils to save Tokyo yet his go-to is a Bic Round Stick. I love it! Thank you Chip for keeping us humble.
I see a lot of the Boyd Coddington Aluma Coupe in this car, my first thought when I saw the thumbnail.
I love Chip and I love watching these but when I turn away it feels like Martin Sheen is hosting some new version of Bob Ross's The Joy of Painting. That's not a bad thing. "Now I'm just gonna paint a happy little scoop here..."
Why Foose is such a great designer?.....he's an incredible artist. As simple as that. His designs are pure art.
When I was at Chips shop during the overhauling beetle build he drew a similar beetle that I would love to build, front engine air cooled rear wheel drive🙂. I think the sketch got pinned up in his shop, I always wonder if it still hanging there.
I love the idea would be fun to run with it! building a beetle is on my to do list at some point. I think keeping the motor in the back would make it unique from all the other roadsters out there! I love watching your ideas come to life on paper. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a Plymouth prowler from the late 90s
Was going to say the same thing.. It does look just like it.. It isn't unique at all.....
You think he was going for a weird looking hemisfear?
@@JackDaniel617 I think he's going senile and forgot about his own creations
It's literally a Plymouth Prowler
"Buy a Prowler, Save a Beetle" :)
yeah i can SEE that, but it can also be a LOT cheaper, more unique, and free of all the computer complications! good to see chip still at it !
This would be a nice build to see happen! I can imagine the interior..
I'd love to see one of these Beetles built like a 'fat fender' era kustom.
That doesn't mean I don't like the idea of a hot rod style bug... 👍
What makes it easy to use them for such projects is the fact that the overall shape of the Beetle didn't change much over the production time. Thus you don't have to take one of the (nowadays getting quite rare) early ones to cut up for your project.
He says he is drawing a beetle and, draws a prowler.
Looks like a VW to me.
@@buggyridge looks like a prowler to me
If you have a budget, the beetle is the perfect car to start with, can do heaps with a beetle. Off road racer to full restoration to beach buggy to hot rod and everything in between.
Chip Foose love your artistry and love your creativity. I bet Volkswagen never saw there beetle like this before
Chip Foose: madman car design genius.
Wonderful artist, but this is just a roadster, there is nothing VW left, which is fine by me, but other that a heavy modified hood....Even the cowl, door angles, everything....
typical looking vw rat rod which has been done for years
@@uglykidmoe150 I think of rat rods as poorly fabricated, but I agree in the sense this looks like lots of the early hot rods, the style is nothing new.
I'm european and i get Chip Foose idea but to be unique instead of a hot-rod i would do a custom 2 seater pick-up from a beetle
but with some up-grades parts from Porsche (engine, gearbox, suspension & brakes).. that would be unique, practical and fun ! ;0)
Chip you are amazing love your work and your attention to detail
I would love to see you build one of these Chip. Awesome concept drawing. :-)
This is so inspirational to me, I've been building a vw on a s-10 frame with a motor in the front, I have looked up to chip for my art my whole life. And I agree, why have something anyone else can have, make it your own.
Gee, that's almost as exciting as building an S-10 on a Beetle chassis with the ENGINE in the back.
it's a VolksRod, but not as we know it! I love Beetles And I love Hot Rods, so this is the perfect blend of the two. You could offend a few more people if you decided to put an air cooled Porsche motor between those meaty back tyres, and I for one am all for it!
If Chip Foose came up to me and said I want yours keys so I can do something to your truck. I would hand them over no questions asked. Take your time.
Loving this rendition! Great work as always Chip 🙏
Excellent, great skills..!!!
Wow who would have thought a Prowler could come from a bug!
Beautiful job there chip. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making God bless
Why hasnt Chip got a kick*** console game yet??? Like a collab with NFS or Forza?
Sweet design, let me know when you're ready and you can do this to my 68 beetle!
To be unique instead of a hot-rod i would do a custom 2 seater pick-up from a beetle but with some up-grades parts from Porsche (engine, gearbox, suspension & brakes).. that would be unique, practical and fun ! The thing is i can only resume to sckhetch wile Chip Foose can do the whole shebang since he is also fabricator, welder, mechanic, painter, stylist... etc.
@@poplaurentiu4148 It's already been done to death. Any a-hole can make a pickup....and why?
Wow, that looks fantastic. I wonder if the massive VW Beetle 40 HP motor could push those wheels. Lol. Chip, luv you, I know you would have already thought of that. Thanks for your content.
Ummmm you just turned a bug into a prowler
Would love to see Mr Foose design what he thinks if they made an even newer practicle version of the Beetle
Love the design, would love to see the finish product👍
Cool as always Chip!
Its like a Hotwheels!! Nice design, like always
just look up, herbmüller...they have done stuff like this in the 50´s....or look for volksrod....thousends of those out there
Also HotWheels makes a few different variants.
And ugly as sin...
Stefan Ehrenfried: yeap, you said it bro, been done, been there, since there have been beetles
Yeeeah... none of them where from Foose.
Cut up any beetle from ‘67 onwards. The ones before are getting harder to find and getting more expensive each day
Could supplement with the Porsche from those earlier years. Porsche/VW were once built on the same assembly.
@@westonbadke5434 you mean the 356A and B? haha, that would be really controversial
You are right my little sister still has my Grandmother 1966 VW she bought brand new off the lot with air conditioning. I used to see those vw's everywhere not so much any more there are people that are buying them up not running wrecked any condition
The designer of the VW Golf actually designed at his dinner table.
Plymouth Prowler? Again?
Wonder what that drawing would look like if, He kept the front stock to back of front fenders, from rear of front fenders to firewall stretch for chosen engine. I guess it would tip hat to Chrysler Airflow
This is absolutely awesome and it looks nothing like a prowler.
Prowler was a half-ass attempt at designing something like that.
I would like to have a beatle like the one Chip designed
You do know he had a part in designing the prowler. Rehashing his own memories
@@danh2134 he designed the Hemisfear which is a combo of a hot rod and super car. This BugRod looks closer to that than the prowler. But just because it has open wheels doesn’t make it the same as a prowler mate.
@@Doty_Designs never heard of or seen one . All I see is his recycled Plymouth prowler . Thumbs down , way down
This guy is an artist, That's it!
I love watching him draw. (And build)
Bug with muscles. Love it.
The bugs were unbelievably efficiently designed.
Extremely well made ... I’ve owned two.
I love how he uses a simple bic pen for the outline
Brasil - São Paulo
Cada projeto é uma obra de arte. Muita saúde e sucesso
i love this art work amazing great simple clean nice
Super cool!
Taking ordinary design to extordanry build. I've got one you can take and do your magic to any time . No.1 fan Overhauling!
You are an absolute genius the and the things you do are outta this world it would be awesome for you and Dave Kindig build a car together
I always compared the model t to the bug but i see your point... i would make it more VW less imagination ... but that's me... lots of cool rat rod VWs out there
I would love to see your reimagining of the Lotus Esprit S4
definitely need a conversion kit for that... WOW
and maybe one for a boxster.
VW Bugs are kinda rare now, how old is this video 25 years old?
I want one that's cool
Chrysler prowler.
Plymouth Prowler
Boyd Coddinton would love that body design i know you worked for him along time ago
Works for me. Chip, now do a Karmann Ghia coupe.
I love it
Well, it's ok design, pretty much seen in other iteration of design, but Master Foose PrePorsche is still the banger. I would add some shiny rollbar, and some slick bumpers, but would not change the engine/transmission configuration. Maybe even ask Porsche for collab, for AWD Roadster/Beach Buggy.
Love your vision chip
I would love to see what you would do to redesign the VW Corrado. I think it would be incredible.
Can you draw the 720 truck crew cab
Cool..👍
In process already?
Dope💯
Nice draw I like it
My drawings of cars as a kid included the 1985 Ferrari gt, pantera, delorean, and the Ferrari spider... Drawn before the cars were invented or made in real life! I drew them in 1980!! They were my ideas about how cool cars could look if I could build one myself!! Fast forward to the present... The only car I can afford to build for my son is a VW beetle. Not even close to this super mod photo!
Looks like the Plymouth Prowler
super cool!
Chip, It would be great if you would turn a Bug into a 2021 Roadster. A series of RUclips videos.
Time for a Foose/Bob Ross style channel.
Really cool. What I would do with the lights is keep them separate as they are here but maintain the slant of the original Beetle.
Me too.. is use European headlights slanted back
A prowling bug☺
Finally ! What took us so long to do this to a VW ??!!
From the rear view is where the VW would need the most work .
I especially like the front "quarter panels" louvers ala 34 Ford, and the rounded rear deck.
Could you do a chopped coupe rendition?
It looks like a Prowler.
I love Volksrods!!
Haven't you seen Major League? Just do like Wesley Snipes and attach a Rolls Royce radiator and hood to the front. Job done.
That was a copy from cheech and Chong 's up in smoke
@@gloriousn Oh yeah, that was hilarious too. I just happened to watch Major League over the weekend cause it was on Amazon and had nothing else better to do.
I would like to see a rendition of a prowler out of that
Love it.
Think I've seen one already done almost like Chip's drawing or pretty close to it. Bugs VW have been done every which way you can think of when I went to my first BUG show I was in awe at the Vallejo Califorina fair grounds.
Chip designs the Plymouth Prowler... again!
VolksRod by Foose!
Foose-ify a Karmann Ghia
Chip.. speaking of fun shapes. Take a look at the Datsun 1200 b110 fastback and see what you think. The car has very appealing body lines and screams for your design.. if nothing else at least on paper.
I see something there. Check it out!
If Bob Ross liked cars!😂
It's a 2021 Hemisfear!
Awesome.. Cant i like that?? Hahaha (dream).. Love from indonesia
His Hair is so crazy, like his drawings xD
🤪🤪🤪👍
Please build that awesome car👍👍
The kid on the tricycle, is that from a Primus album?
