Note Finally got a computer and editor to edit my videos. It will take a couple of days to get use to the new editor. Hopefully i can produce better content and quicker. New intro is first on my list!
Hey guys, as promised here is the walk through video for rebuilding a speed queen top load washer. Unless I have a spare machine to swap out from home, I usually rebuild this in store. I don't even turn the water off. It's a very easy process. I will include a couple of links below to other videos just in case you get stuck. In this video I go through the entire process of taking apart a top load speed queen/alliance laundry systems washer and repairing a bad bearing. You will dismantle the machine all the way to its core to complete this repair. So hopefully anything from taking the top off all the way down to cleaning the bearing surfaces will be covered.
The kit you will need is available from many sources online. You are looking for Alliance Laundry System Part No. 766P3A

Thank you for this video! 46 year old female, own a laundromat, and about to dive into 5 machines to replace bearings. You make my life easier and save me money.
Now THAT’S A REPAIR!! The time & money saved from your ability to do repairs & maintenance yourself must be a very good amt. It adds up throughout the years. Great info. Thanks for sharing
First lesson in business. Know your worth!
This guy has all the personality and entertainment value of a dead deer laying on the side of a highway that got hit by a truck. A week ago.
Thanks keyboard warrior lol!
Very good instructional video! Great job. I'm sure it's very helpful to many owners. Keep on my friend. ✈️
Thank You Big help fixing our washer today. Couldn't have done it without this video!!
Thanks! Glad you were able to fix it
Tip when removing springs on the front. Tilt the drum toward the spring you want to remove. It Takes some of the tension off making it a lot easier to remove the spring.
I’d like to see more on how you built the trough system in the back behind washers where your working at in video. Any video on it or can you explain it? Needing to make one myself. Thanks!
How come you didn't use the loctite 680 on the hub after you were done installing the seal?
I was just gonna ask the same question. Big mistake
on those big springs what you need that will work very easy is what i got on E-Bay a 14 inch long hook tool with a screw driver handle on the other end, $14 it works great...
Can you supply a part number or idea where you got the tool? Thanks
About to do this tomorrow. Lets see if takes more than 2 hours. Thanks for the tip on not needing special tools. All other videos had fancy nut tool but I don't have that. We will see...
😥
Good luck! I think I have a couple of videos.
Unfortunately like PREY stated - this repair wont last long. Another issue us the rubber NUT seal was incorrectly put on. This seal has to be put on snugly by pounding it on tightly all the way down to the bottom of the hub before the agitator hub is attached to the transmission spline. Also no lubricant was used on the agitator hub before assembly. I find it a lot easier to just take off the washer shell - 11 screws. Also - whats wrong with using the red sealant that's included in the seal hub kit (646P3 kit has sealant with it) ? I'm sure you have installed these also as your laundry mat has lots of Speed Queen washers.
I liked the "I don't use any special tools, they're always trying to get you to buy special tools you don't need". True, but and I don't mean to pee in your corn flakes, I HAVE to critique one BIG mistake @30:02 , the bottom seal sanded tub prep. You sanded all the protective porcelain off at least 1" + inches around the sealant area down to bare metal, BUT you did not cover *ALL* of the bare metal with sealant to PROTECT it from rusting out and it will BIGTIME. You left a lot of EXPOSED bare steel. Yup, you fixed it, but it ain't gonna last and it'll building up rust with that constant water/detergent exposure and the detergent will act as an accelerants for the rust... Other than than that, until the base rusts out, it should hold okay.
Are the inner and outer tubs made of stainless steel on Speed Queens? Or is it only the inner tub with the holes in it that is made of stainless steel.
@@maubunky1 only inner tub stainless
About to attempt this. Thanks for taking the time on making this. Very curious about what you broke when you were putting that heavy bottom assembly back on so I can keep my eye out. Also, why did you take the pump and belt off, was that just for accessing bolts or I did I miss the reason why ? Thanks again great video.
Please help..I have a issue with mine in that just during a spin cycle starts making a noise but even more louder when it hits the same spot. It also wobbles more when it hits the spot…what could be the issue..any help would be greatly appreciated…regards, Tony
It could be the bearing
man thank you so so much. I have to do this to mine. and did know how to do it. thanks a million//
Good luck!
It work perfectly.. now all i have to do is 1 more speed queen, and that all for the bearings.. Learning from your videos. save me a ton of money. Thanks again..
That’s great to hear
Wow good job
Do you have any videos showing the installation of the other Speed Queen hub and seal kit, 646P3? I believe it was used on the older Speed Queens. It doesn't have the bearing incorporated into the lower part of the seal, and it is a one piece seal. I am confused by the little sleeve that goes over the shaft of the hub. They don't seem to use any sealant on that part, and I cannot see how water would not leak out between the hub and the sleeve. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I just did this kit a couple of weeks ago on another one. But I found a link to the manual for the kit that describes it way better than I ever could.

@@ThereIfixedityt, I actually have the instruction sheet because I bought the kit in the hopes that I may be able to use the parts for my Amana ALW480DAW. This is a late 90's era machine that was made by Alliance back then, so it shares a lot of the same DNA as the Speed Queens - same motor, pump, transmission, basket, agitator, etc. The big problem is that it uses a plastic tub instead of the metal tub used by the Speed Queens, and the hub & seal kit for these is unobtanium. So I bought the 646P3 because it looks just like the parts in my Amana. My seal did not appear to be leaking, I just needed to replace the bearings, so I was hoping to just use the new hub from the kit (my existing hub virtually crumbled when I pulled. it.) Alas, after putting it all back together, I got a leak. My old hub did not use a stainless sleeve as seen in the kit - it was solid aluminum. I was hoping to make it work anyway, but after looking at things it appears that the new hub has a slightly longer shank that goes into the seal. I thought my leak was coming from between the hub and the sleeve, but now I am not so sure.
I hate the idea of ditching a perfectly good machine that has served me well for 23 years just because of a stupid seal. I think I might be able to rescue the situation by getting a metal Speed Queen tub (the tall one, PN 34438P), but now I am throwing more money at it. Maybe I would be better off going with the tub design that uses the 766P3A. For now it looks like I will have to find another cheap machine to keep the wife happy for a while. I was really hoping to keep this Amana going for another 15 years or so. Thanks for the help and the videos.
What is the going rates for this repair.
Hi.. how would I know if i have a bearing issue? I hear a sound that sounds like BBs shifting around so i am guessing..but have no real idea. Thanx
If you can hear that’s I’d say you have an issue
Mine sounded like a 747
@45:00 you can see you put the top panel right on the wire harness ??? that was a 5 STAR MISTAKE THERE... Haha. that could of been a nightmare if you broke the connector...
Thanks for training how to install bearing and seal kit service technician asking 525 .00 to install Kit . paid 650.00 new in 2013 my rule it was getting to point to replace it After installing the kit think it’s a very poor design for a commercial machine. And now to replace it is 1300.00.
you forgot to install the spin basket paper gasket under the spin basket ????? i really do not see why factory wants it installed...but it was a very good video i think, 24 hours to dry??? i have glue from whirlpool thats made to set up when water makes contact with the sealer glue, so we test it when everything is done, no problem no leaks yet i have done over nine hundred of them...
So what was the clue that the bearing was bad? (Obviously before you took it apart?)
The bearing will start to roar or will be roaring. Another sign is water seaping through the bottom and when the washer spins out it will start throwing muddy water on the insides of the front panel.
You start by taking the entire washer apart....
I think if I ever own a laundromat, I’ll just start taking apart the biggest pos I have and start figuring it out.
Life saver !
What type of silicone did you use?
Was it normal silicon sealant or was it polyurethane silicone sealant?
Waterproof silicone has always worked for me
Could you please show me How clean the filter, I have an alarm on my SC30 machine (need clean filter). thanks for your help.
If it’s the filter I’m thinking of, it’s under the top hood. Should be a red filter toward the right side. It will be a few days before I can get to the laundromat to do a video about it
I was gonna Comment I can’t believe you got the hub screws out, then snap. That’s more like it lol. But that’s why the kit has them.
It’s hard to get them out.
@@ThereIfixedityt are those bearing one way bearings? I’m still waiting on alliance for the answer. My basket has slop left to right so which I isolated to the bottom end somewhere.
@@christopheradamson81 the bearings can spin both ways, but sounds like yours may be hun issues?
@@ThereIfixedityt I thought that at first but I held the transmission while my kid tried to move the basket and it’s solid. Thanks for the info about bearings. We don’t hold contracts for these so haven’t got the chance to play yet. I’ll update when I tear into it. Everything else is good except that noise which I’d digging at my soul lol.
Awesome Video
What would i need to replace when the tub bangs back and forth as it washes but the brake pads hold the rotor tight at the bottom
Is the load just off balance? Springs good?
There, I fixed it it started doing that on every load,if i hold the tub still it’s quiet.the springs are good
es350 what about the counter weights? Usually a concrete material
Probably a worn friction ring.
About how long will the new one last before having to redo it again would you say?
Jason Honeslty, I don’t know. I’ve never had to redo a speed queen yet. I’ve been around laundromats for 13-14 years a and just acquired speed queen when we took this over a couple of years ago.
Does anyone have any idea why when draining spinning water spills from top between balance ring and cover???
Sounds like the water may not be draining fast enough.
Could be a clog.
Harbor Freight sells cheap big sockets
I have to agree with Prey and John S. That was a botched repair job. Good thing it's your own machine.
