- If you are considering a change to your off grid power system the first step is to do an energy audit.
There is little reason to change a system until you understand your goals.

There must be a giant sailboat magnet in Luperon. Nice job Emily.
Larry was my daily alarm clock, because he had to run the generator every morning. Guess I will have to provide my own alarm clock now.
Ah Jay. Ya never complained once. Ty. Thanks for introducing us to the potable fans. We use them daily which of course are another power draw.
@@larrbarr001 I was always up an hour or two before you started your generator.
Awesome life.
If it's not too invasive what kind of work do you do on your laptops that allow you to do so in remote areas
What did Larry use to do his energy audit? The published draw of the devices or did he use something like a Kill-s-Watt that actually measures the usage over a period of time. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Just a clip-on amp meter works best in my opinion.
I did a review of a good, reasonably priced, one a while ago. It's in our Amazon store.
Larry borrowed my clip on meter.
great share! big thanks! I am needing this right now, how timely! ~__/)__*
I have heard that taking a sailboat from fresh water to salt water can be a problem. It reveals all the weaknesses all at once. Was that true for Larry? I live in Ohio so lake Erie would be my closest hunting ground for a sailboat.
I don't think I'd worry
Just set it up for salt water (zincs) and go.
Temptress has been floating in salt water for over 50 years
Larry is living my dream. Did I hear you say you had air conditioning?
Larry and Georgie don't bet we do here on Temptress. Solar powered.
We have a video on it and it's going back into production. If you are interested fill out the survey in the description of one of the AC videos and get on the mailing list.
Sounds like a granny flat on water .
Very informative video. Love the Energy Audit. 👍👍👍
for hurracane you need to go to panama. no hurracane never
Of course you can Larry. But you may have to redo it.
Another way to see what your using is to wait until it dark and check your battery monitor and how many amps your using with everything on. We plan to double our lithium in the next few years
The base of a good plan is an analysis of the situation. Thus, an energy audit is a brilliant start. 👍👍
I'm very curious about something and I think this would be a question posed for Clark. So here's the question. With all these gadgets that you can install on your boat, most of these electrical devices need an antenna. Could using star-link eliminate some of these antennas or would the issue of incompatibility come into play?
Starlink is internet access not a generic rf tool. If your devices could do their job or be replaced with internet access then sure. But no it can't replace antennas.
An energy audit is useful and crucial.
Should be measured in watt hrs not amp hrs. Makes me wonder about other qualifications for rendering advice tbh
Seems to me the slight added complexity of Wh is only useful if you're dealing with more than one voltage. Boats with DC that is entirely 12V like this appears to be would gain no useful information by multiplying by 12. Please let me know if I'm missing something.
@langstonholland9272 you aren't missing a thing for the needs of this operation.
First, and here's your comment lol!
How would you consider to plan for an average of 300 Ah as a general rule? And maybe double it for redundancy? Would it be just stupid and better to do a thorough calculation?
Calculations are easy.
300ah at 12v is a lot of power. I certainly wouldn't double that. I don't think we use more than that with AC all night
Great video! I was wondering if Larry wouldn’t mind sharing what he does for work? That is the one worry me and my wife has, if something happens and we need to earn some income what we would do. Thanks for all of these informative videos!
