    It may be the latest Toronto rappers that don't sound good. I'm old, so I remember the days of Maestro Fresh Wes, Kardinal Offishall, Choclair, Ghetto Concept, and Dream Warriors. Toronto hip hop in the late 80s to the 2000s was more creative and sounded great. Even some US rappers talked about our music scene. The only new GTA rapper I listen to is Haviah Mighty (I know she's from Brampton). It could be these latest rappers are trying too hard.

    • @tdotsblessing
      @tdotsblessing 2 месяца назад

      It definitely can't be the accent, that's one of the dumbest reasons because it makes no sense whatsoever. Toronto's Black community have been talking like that since the 80s. You can't get rid of something that's been here for several ages. It's part of the city's culture. In recent years however, it's become a trend for non-black people who grew up outside of the culture to mimic it, misrepresent it, and make it sound 10x worse than what it is. But being from Toronto and saying that "The accent is the problem" just shows how culturally disconnected so many people in Toronto are. So honestly, you better get used to it and accept it, because it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

    • @evanferris5035
      @evanferris5035 2 месяца назад +1

      @tdotsblessing the title of the video proves my point. It can stay and be part of the culture and all that. But it won't sell commercially like Houston or Memphis as cities with distinct accents. I agree Drake is the biggest artist in the world aside from t swift, he speaks with that accent, and specifically doesn't rap in that accent.

    • @tdotsblessing
      @tdotsblessing 2 месяца назад

      @@evanferris5035 Rap has always been about being authentic to where you’re from, not mimicking a next city or wanting to be like somewhere else, this is a terrible mindset right here🤦🏾‍♂ So is Toronto always gonna be this place where you have to fake being an American to make it in the industry? That’s pathetic. If you have superstar potential then you can always go far, regardless of how your accent sounds. You should never think that your accent can limit you. Rappers here should be true to who they are.
      All those other cities you've listed also have unique sounding accents that outsiders have just grown to get used to over the years, sooner or later the same could happen to Toronto if people could actually stick to being who they are and not talk down on their own culture.

    I remember back around 2016ish (I can't remember the exact date) but when 365 galore dropped. I was hoping for Jayy Brown to actually continue his grind. He took a break n lost all the attention. One of his newest songs "lost in translation" is a rlly good song. But since he lost that attention he got w 365 galore, it hasn't got that many views. That song isn't block music at all, he has a good voice, decent lyrics, and the song itself has a nice beat. To me whenever someone in Toronto who doesn't make block, they will take a break and lose that attention that they and then just fade out of the spot light.

    As an American living in the GTA. I thought the Toronto hiphop scene from 2015-2018 was gonna be lit and folks from back then would make it out to the US but no, Toronto rap now is just garbage, they all have the same weird accent, same sound in almost every song that they make, same lifestyle that they rap about and the average “dissing your opps”. These rappers from Toronto only see Toronto as the whole world. I was feeling it way back then but now it’s just ass. It’s pains me to say that I even got friends and other people that I know in the area that I live in that are trying to making it in the Toronto scene with the same generic Toronto sound. I showed love and support but deep down I knew that they ain’t gonna make it big.
    I even went back to my hometown in California showed my family and friends over there, toronto rap, they said they ain’t even feeling or bopin to it, “trash”
    And no matter how much Drake try’s and promotes Toronto rappers to his label. They still ain’t gonna make.
    THIS IS THE HARSH TRUTH AND THE SAD REALITY FOR THE TORONTO HIPHOP SCENE.
    Even if I would be become a rapper, I would not represent Toronto Canada or any ties to Toronto and it’s medias.

    There is a few Toronto rappers who represent the Underground REAL HIP-HOP and some in BC who are active really big around Europe yearly touring. DON'T Allow yourself to think this is the only artist from Toronto

    Toronto used to have a sound but it has been forsaken for whats trendy. These artists now rather be martyrs then actual artists and are liabilities. No promoter in their right mind can put on a showcase without the fear of losing their reputation over folks who bring the streets into the music.
    There were many guys back in the day who were involved in the streets but you would never tell because the way they presented the music. There was skill and a passion for the artform. Theres too many rappers and not enough emcees. Our city hasnt grown artistically given the exposure it has now with social media and streaming. Its gotten worse generally. You just have to look for what you like and that means sifting through a whole bunch of garbage to get it

    I also think Drake had a bad influence on the scene and didn't add to the pot just take, he should be building a musical empire of artists but not everyone is like that imo.

    Its not music its morse code to the opps, and score checking the game 🎯. The beat is just background noise. A lot of artists are talented, however they gravitate to the BS, and in turn place themselves in chrash out circumstances for either notaritety or survival. Being a rapper in Toronto is risky business. Best advise is make a hit and take your talents to the states.
