  • A dusty evening flight into Van Nuys (KVNY) in California. Video recorded from the cockpit of a G550 (GV-SP). Early aircraft configuration was required due to a steeper than normal descent angle required at VNY.

As much as I didn't expect to sit and watch a 20 minute video, this was excellent. Thank you for sharing! You have a great channel.

What a fantastic childhood! I'm sure aviation was a whole different ball game back then, none of the electrics and automation we have to put up with nowadays. Very kind of you to share that experience with us, it makes it worth while posting the videos when you hear thinks like that. Thank you for watching and I hope I can post some more videos that will instil similar memories. Maybe a better quality KVNY video with a different approach. Keep well.

I still flight instruct as much as i can, and trust me it is the greatest, most rewarding flying you'll ever do! Unfortunately people only realise what they had when its gone. Instructing on light aircraft was and still is my favourite activity and beats hands down sitting on auto pilot for 13 hours, however when i was in your position (not long ago) i was thinking and saying exactly the same thing.
Keep up the great work doing what your doing and you'll be sitting in an elevated cockpit soon!

Thank you very much for that comment! Unfortunately I don't have the equipment or knowhow to edit the tricky little Mp4 that comes out my camera so I upload it directly. Hopefully I can one day upload them at a more suitable length rather than my current marathon movies :-)
Thanks for watching! I hope I record some more you enjoy.

nemo227 Your personally more than welcome, I am very pleased you enjoy the videos. I will do my best to eventually integrate you into the cockpit as part of the crew as well as the views out of the front window (also with "real" audio). "Watch this space"! Keep well.

It was a cheap video camera called a "Vado HD" you can get them for about $70 online. Would love to get a 1080p some time soon to share some super HD experiences with you all. Thanks for watching

I understand your comment. Unfortunately I had to add the music later on RUclips to cover the ATC transmissions and Cockpit RT for company and passenger confidentiality. The video is an Mp4 and i did not have the correct editing software that i needed remove all sound but I can assure you that when i eventually get a better Mp3 camera i will edit the videos to keep as much of the original sound as possible, the way i also prefer.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused. Best Regards.

In answer to your question, yes, the glide path angle at KVNY ILS 16R is 3.90*. We intercepted normally from waypoint "UMBER" at 6000ft,14.9 miles from the VNY VOR and I apologise for the music but it was required for company confidentiality as a crude method of covering call sign and R/T. I don't have any editing software for Mp4 videos so i had to add it later via RUclips, not at all ideal I agree! I too much prefer videos with original soundtrack and no music.
better luck next time I guess.

Thank you for the information. I suspect those mountains that you fly over to the north make the higher glide path necessary.

Everyday by Carly Comando. Its part of the RUclips music list when editing videos on the website.

Maybe try, "Gulfstream G450 takeoff Munich 08L" from my channel (G450 and G550 have the same cockpit), I don't have 2x cameras at the moment or the software to edit/combine 2 videos but i will definitely keep it in mind for the future! Thanks for watching and your comment.

There should've been no music during this video. ATV instead

Is the GS greater than 3 degrees or does approach like to get you to intercept from above? Great clip but could have done without the music though.

Nice video! What type of camera did you use?

Ya, I know what you mean, but in a way, would you even like to manually fly an airplane for 13 hours? I dunno, to me, that's like a truck driver saying he wishes his truck didn't have cruise control, I feel like it would just be a hassle constantly having to worry about trimming it up all the time and worrying about altitude changes and correct airspeeds, when you could just set the autopilot, and fly the fun parts, take-off and landing...

Why, oh why, oh why do people keep putting what they think is appropriate music on what would otherwise be an awesome video? Really takes away from it...
