Best video I've found. Really helps me in getting ready for school in a month.

Does the control column normally shake that badly?

B747guy Thanks for your comment. That’s a good observation, the G550 has a mild airframe buffet with flaps 39 (full flaps) extended. If I’m being honest, I’m not sure why, it’s a question I’ll ask an experienced engineer one day.
The issue “may” be cause by the flap design. It’s a large, single stage flap that extends on integrated internal runners, there are no flap pods beneath the wing to reduce parasite drag. As a result at full extension (39 degrees) when at the end of the runners (max lever arm), light aerodynamic buffet can be felt through the airframe. Perhaps this was a compromise to achieve the incredibly low landing speeds achieved and short landing field length required.
I believe this vibration is enhanced on this video by the visual addition of the yoke moving and the camera housing shaking/rattling in unison. The experience for the passengers is not so noticeable, just a low frequency rumble.
      Again, thanks for watching.

Thank you for the response and that does make sense. Am retired now, too old and "senile" to fly according to the FAA, but still love aviation and airplanes. The Gulfstreams are the top of the list. Lucky you! Just envy. Lol

I'm glad I can keep you in the air vicariously through my videos. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and please feel free to ask as many questions as come to mind and please let me know if you have any particular requests for me to try to record. If you're from the 747 as your title suggests, the envy is mutual! Cheers.

Yes, I have almost 10,000 hours on the B747, or the Whale as we called it. Greatest airplane I ever flew!! Got shot at several times, went through some pretty scary weather, including monsoons, and loved every minute of it. The airplane was a dream to fly and built like a tank. "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going!" Old WWII expression but it still applies today! Your job is just as great. People who don't fly never understand

wow your F/O raised the flaps on the runway while you were still decelerating 🤦🏽‍♂️

That isn't a problem. Company procedure allowed after landing checks to be performed after control handover
