This is similar to what I've been saying. I think it's a combination of both that and Devon gassing out.
Levan made a technical error in round 1. He was being cautious and didn't want to hit blindly like he did in 2022. It seems clear to me that he studied that previous round 1 *AND he studied his left hand practice pull against Devon.* I don't think people realized yet that that practice pull probably put some ideas in his mind on how to approach Devon on the right again. He didn't want to risk his hand being cracked back like that near the pad, because he knows that that was Devon's win condition. So hence him hitting differently in this match.
He loses the hand control battle, tries to adjust his grip, and tries to surge sideways, but he realizes that that's a no-go and would compromise his wrist. Ray mentions that he saw Levan's grip and said that it was terrible. Levan bails out with the flop press and Devon fouls a second time while stopping his press.
This is where Devon gassing out comes in. Levan completely stretched Devon's bicep with that press. Then at the start of round 2, you'll see that Levan actually takes a bit longer to move Devon from center. This was the last resistance that Devon's bicep could provide. Rounds 3 and 4, we see that Levan no longer has any trouble moving from center. Neil notices this too and mentions it during the match that Devon's bicep had nothing left. His kingsmove in round 1 in 2022 looked better than his kingsmoves in rounds 2, 3, and 4 in the rematch. That's because he still had some bicep in round 1 of 2022. Holding Levan near center, stopping his surges, and stopping his press drained his bicep completely. When there's a substantial gap in strength, the person with lesser strength has to exert more effort. I warned people that Devon was more liable to gas out in this match.
So it's basically a combination of everything we've heard so far.

I have to say, that I am a very big fan of Devon. He is THE Master of the sport. But I am also a realist. Devon is not a natural Super-Heavyweight. This makes it for one, a huge disadvantage against MASSIVE people, and for the other, beyond impressive how well he is doing inspite of it.
And I also love Levan. He is a very good Armwrestler. Training with other, very good Armwrestlers every day. Eating. Resting. Getting Bigger. He did not even need his wrist. He just needed, not to lose, and then any weapon that he could put his weight and power behind. I know the wrist is important, but to quote Jerry: "It is Arm wrestling, not just wrist wrestling."
To sum it up. I Love Armwrestling and most of the athletes.
@ThunderbackOG This is the best take. Only thing I’ll add to what you already said is that Levan’s size is large even compared to other top super heavyweight armwrestlers, making that disadvantage even greater.

It's not that Levan was lacking wrist strength or anything. It's just that he is still scared to test his wrist to the limit after the injury. He just saw that he can easily win without wrist and he took it.
Could you do a video explaining/describing the different "lanes". I'm still learning all the myriad intricacies of the sport and haven't heard this phrasing used from too many other creators/videos. Love the content! You're one of the first channels I ever subbed to when I started getting into arm wrestling and one of the few I watch just about all uploads from! Much love.
Devon really had one lane of attack through his pronation and Levan felt that in the first round so he paused to figure out how he was going to proceed. When he felt Devon's weak side pressure he knew there was no chance Devon could go through him even if he did lose his wrist. Devon's only viable move was a king's move below the table but that's illegal in EvW rules.
Devon's only hope was pronate into a king's move and then do a dive below the table Michael Todd style.

Also Devon tried to press off the go in round 4 without straps but basically bounced back and then Levan almost pinned out of straps. And I think we can hear Jodi suggesting that exact thing to Dev after round 3. But even then when Devon pressed into Levan's cup be was still able to roll out from there suggesting that his pronation was capable of containing Levan's cup. Rest of his strengths were not close tho
All these excuses. Maybe Lavon was just more versatile than Devin ever imagined😢

Yeah I was never bought into the idea that Devon was close in round 1. Levan looked so hesitant, especially when you compare around one of his previous match with Devon and his match with Ermes - he drives straight to the pad, just like he did at EvW 12 against Devon (rounds 2-4).
I almost wondered if Levan was playing mind games back at Devon in R1, but when you hear the explanation directly from the horses child’s mouth, lol it makes the most sense

you say that you are an analyser of armwrestling but you are a fool if you really believe that first round was close lol. Levan wasnt even trying and just warming up. Look at the facial expressions. Devon was red lining but trying to hold levan whereas levan has no facial expressions at all. He said in the interview that the game plan was to go for the flop press anyway. Why are people saying the first round was close when it wasnt at all
Hell if Levan was just testing out his strength holding center, I could have swapped places with Devon and the match would have looked the same lol. He was saying that the first round between Devon and Levan was close at all, it could have went like rounds 2, 3 and 4 if Levan wanted to but he wanted the technical win of cupping in Devon's pronation. Although that begs the question if Levan was able to cup his wrist.
Regardless im just saying this video isn't trying to say the first round was close. Levan first round was just trying to go for a flop press and i think the pause in the centre was Levan just implementing his practice in an supermatch.
Well what happened is yes Levan was holding easily. But Levan tried to top roll and if you look again he couldn't move Devon. So he had to press. Obviously his press is insane. He benches huge weights and he weights 400 pounds. But look again. His initial surge to move Devon didn't work

Yup, perfect explanation, and makes you wonder why Devon misjudged his approach to the match AGAIN. If he TRULY wanted to have a chance in this match, he needed to be transforming himself into a more powerful human being. Only people fooling themselves thought Devon's decent, yet modest strength improvements in things like rising, cupping, and pronating would make ANY difference. Devon needed to be packing on SIZE AND STRENGTH through his back, chest, and shoulders. It's unfathomable that after the 2022 match Devon didn't realize what it was gonna take...even if it wasn't possible. Little wrist moves don't matter much when, comparatively, you are a boy facing a grown man. He has a HUGE frame to pack on muscle, but perhaps that wasn't going to work for him health wise at this point in his life.
It appears obvious that Levan simply has the ability to pack on more body mass than Devon. Levan can eat in an energy surplus much more tolerably for him than Devon. It is that classic "easy gainer" phenotype where Levan tolerates extremely high food intake and PED dosages, whereas Devon simply cannot tolerate the food and drugs at those levels for long enough to become as massive and strong as Levan.
Guys I'm 18 and I've spent a few weeks in the gym always loved arm wrestling and rock climbing, I'm 73 kgs, 182 cm tall with very long arms. My wrist curl is 34 kgs for 8 to 9 good reps and I can bicep curl 24 kgs on each arm for a triple. Should I pursue the sport?
I also think Auden's explanation makes sense, and really we just learned that Levan is even more technically capable than we already knew. He is a beast! Which is why I also think it'll be a while before we could see someone new to the sport and close to Levan's size give him a real challenge. Not sure how long it would take Brian Shaw (for example) to gain the *expertise* needed to really challenge Levan.

For a guy so dominantly strong, Levan's technique is really impressive- Devon actually cracked his wrist back like he planned but then Levan answers with Flop-Press and a Tod Roll... makes you wonder if he practiced those moves for the match as a contingency, and that's why you see the look of surprise and then the look of respect in the first round, before proceeding to win... that would explain why he wasn't sweating the wrist training and letting Devon go that route without having a "train off" before the match. "I'm probably stronger but just in case-" or maybe he just had it in the kit from before and never had to use it. Either way he proved that he deserves the title, and not just just because he's a meat mountain, but because he's one of the most skilled guys on the table on the planet as well as the strongest... The only way we've seen opponents beat Devon in his current form was to beat him after he wins the wrist- because he will... if Levan panicked and tried to fight him for it things could have gone poorly for him. This was a proper passing of the torch.

Devon lost because his arm power (elbow flexors), chest and back are too weak. He focussed too much on hand and wrist. He should do more isolated backpressure and gym training for general strength.

Round one wasnt close at all. levan NEVER looked worried about Devon, there is nothing Devon could have done against Levan except trying to hold him. If you look at Levan he didnt go for the explosive top roll or "todd roll" as he probably was trying to feel his wrist first. They both "lost" their wrist in the following rounds, but it was Devons wrist the one that was more bent back.
Judging effort levels by facial expressions just doesn’t work. Certain guys I.e. Dennis Cyplenkov never look strained it’s just how they pull and how they look. Clearly Levan had to try hard because round one he completely lost hand and wrist control. But his side pressure was way stronger so it didn’t matter when he was able to transition to a press
