Good design is good design. The size of the graphic on most shirts is too large and goofy looking because they are designed by non designers. You don't need to fill the print area given. Make it the "right size" for the design.
Yup I totally agree. It's easy to fall far all the readily available printing processes and saturate the area. Da Vinci stated "the sophistication of simplicity". We are to remember that in the first milli seconds the automatic limbic system takes over and determines our natural initial reaction not only to art but to most situations in life. I am fascinated studying symbols (i.e" Man and his Symbols" written by Carl Jung and associates). Good luck and cheers from Alberta Canada!
Something I want to share that I have experienced with my clothing business. Print on demand is great for small business owners but once you see growth in your brand it is important to stir to better quality suppliers and buy in bulk. Screen printing and print on demand is great to avoid risk early on but if you have good ideas/products this strategy can really limit your growth. Only selling screen printed products is not a good long term strategy for any clothing business in today’s market. Your customers are more critical on quality than ever before. Good video, I have an unrelated question though, if I decide to cancel my subscription with Kittl for whatever reason, can I continue to sell any designs I've already created and downloaded from Kittl and have used for pod products on marketplaces or my own website? Or do I lose all rights to continue using those designs once no longer subscribed?
Hey there. So long as you have an active Kittl subscription (even on Free tier) then you retain the licenses to use what you created while you were on a paid plan. If you decide to completely delete your account, you would no longer be able to utilize the active license to use creations from Kittl. (There is never any harm in keeping a Free Kittl subscription 😉).

Curious about the backgrounds. I notice some are black, yellow, etc. I have a design I'm working on where I have removed the background. Is it important for a t-shirt design to even have a background? Does the background get printed on the shirt? (I would assume it does.) Any other info about the background would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
In the T-shirt design world, where for decades really great T-shirts sold thousands, tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands and garment embellishment printers go by specific formats- 12x12 is standard and the top seller, 14x16 is oversized and everything over those formats, in real print shops, is considered oversized- it dictated screen, pallet and squeegee selection during production.. So this became the consumer expectation.. If your opening salvo is some random size call out that beginner T-shirt designers should start with, you need to go back and do some homework.. Size is money.. Time on press is money. For Digital, ink usage is money..
The16x20 was just a suggested size that maybe print on demand companies suggest. The first tip here was to fill the rectangle, not that you have to adhere to 16x20. This is more of a design tip to think about using the full real estate of your shirt, not so much about what potential size you will be printing. It could be any size. Screen-printing, heat-transfer, etc, are all different possible methods that can have a variety of sizes, but using a print on demand company like Printful, Printify, Awkward styles, have their limitations. Cheers!
Can we use kettl free templates for T shirt designs because all are so good, that I was thinking if I made any upgradation , then I may destroy the beauty.
Hey there, you can use the templates as they are, but we strongly recommended changing at least the text and colors, as to not potential have duplicate listings on various websites, which can lead to your similar design listing being taken down. Glad you like the templates!
Question: When you have the design with a base color, does it regulate the color of the t-shirt it can go with? I believed that the designs need to be transparent and never use background or base color.
Correct, utilizing a full background color is just a good way to visualize your t-shirt color. We're not entirely sure what you are asking, whether or not you can make transparent designs with Kittl (which you certainly can), or whether you should export with or without a color, but you should always export a transparent design unless you are intending for it to be on a solid shape for some reason.
Just started using Kittl and it's wonderful. I do hope you add the ability to change the colors of individual letters though. Right now (unless I"m missing something) it looks like you have to creat a separate text element for each color.
Correct, at the moment you have create a separate text block to make each letter a different color. But we are constantly looking into how to add even better and more advanced text editing tools, so we really appreciate your patience! And we're glad you are liking Kittl so far! 🙏
Hey there, if you are referencing the mockup generator in Kittl, the view of the shirt is limited to that view only, you can't turn that same mockup around. So it would need to be separate mockups. We are working on improving our mockup feature over the coming weeks.
The other reason for reducing the colour palette is washing! The wider the range of colours, the more they can run! If you have strong reds on a white shirt, for example, can me the shirt pink!
For print on demand, typically yes, the design will be the same size. You may want to look at uploading a separate larger file to your provider for those larger sizes.
Hey great lesson! Quick question what size to the canvas or the design be when creating in Kiddle so that POD companies will understand and print right size on shirt????
Hey there! Our suggestion is to always go and check the Print on demands specifications. Almost all of them, whether it's Printify or Printful have pixel size guides for every product. For t-shirts, generally 4500x5400 is a standard size that should work across all PODs, but you can also select from our POD presets when you open a new project.
I hope someone can answer this, but when I see the hero’s, Volkswagen vans or cars, are they trademarked or a part of copy right? I see them in kittle but I worry to use them.
Hey there, we have certainly seen that when the volkswagen vans are used, there is generally a large issue, even though the illustration style or type is not trademarked. We would certainly use caution when thinking about how you would use those, and where you would sell them.
How do Kittl designs avoid trademark infringement? For example, the phrase "Good Vibes" among many other common phrases are trademarked on the US trademark site, so if we use a shirt with that phrase on it would we face the possibility of trademark infringement?
Hey there! If you are referencing one of the templates, they are there solely as templates, for you to go and change to a phrase of your choosing and in accordance with trademarking laws. This will always be up to the user to decide and use best judgement.
Great video, thank you! Just one question, how can you avoid infringing copyright when using your templates? Can simply changing the quote be enough to avoid infringement or do you have to make changes to the graphic itself, e.g. modify the colour scheme? Thanks once again.
Hey there! Great question. Any published design on Kittl is readily available for any to use on POD sites or apparel/printable products. We do highly suggest changing at least the text and color scheme as to not potentially have a listing taken down due to a repeated design. You can read more about our published design guidelines and licensing here: www.kittl.com/publish/guidelines
If you have the means to print it on the shirt than absolutely! We're not exactly sure what you are asking, but the potential is certainly there if you have the tools to do so.
This truly depends on your method of printing, but if you are using something like print on demand, you should be fine with a large variety of colors. If you are trying to print it yourself with a screenpress, try limiting it between 3 to 5 when you are just starting out.
I have seen multiple designs on Kittl that each have sonething I'd like to "extract" for a single design. Is it possible to use 2 designs in Kittl at once to create a "unique" design? The available elements are limited in a way and it'd be great if we could access multiple templates in a single project. Can this be done in Kittl or is there a workaround?
Absolutely, we encourage you to pull different elements and pieces from different templates to create your own design. The easiest way to do this to open up the second project in another tab, and you can simply copy and paste between browser tabs into your project to create your own. Multi-artboard functionality will be coming soon as well, so you have copy over full projects onto the same art-space if you like.
If you are referring to our Kittl Print feature, at the moment, we don't offer returns, you can reach out to the support team via our Chat feature if you would like to discuss any issues.
Oct 16, 2024, Kittl announced they are decreasing the monthly AI credits for all plans by more than 75%, and charging the same price, starting December 1, 2024.
I’ve commented on one of the other videos too but I seriously can’t believe they think they can get away with reducing credits again. At least last time it was only by 20/day. This time it’s by 60/day. This has to be the shadiest business practice ever. We all asked for credits to roll over. We meant all our credits, not 75% less if our credits. You can’t keep changing your subscription model and expect people to be ok with it. Especially people who gave paid for a yearly subscription. It’s really disgusting how you are treating your customers. None of the extra stuff you say you are adding, sone of which is already added so not exactly ‘extras’, is worth a 75% reduction in credits for the same amount of money. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Just a money grab now.
We hear you, and have been feeding everything back to the team. We understand this might feel like a reduction at first glance. Before we made this call, we performed a detailed investigation into credit usage and found that the overwhelming majority of designers weren’t using all of their credits under the daily system. We believe the monthly system will be much more fair and flexible once you give it a spin. We're very proud of our AI tooling-but from the beginning, we've maintained that Kittl is really so much more than an AI image generator! Plus we're constantly adding new features without increasing prices. With everything else in the pipeline (grids, rulers, vector editing, collaboration, and more coming soon) the value of your subscription will only increase. We hope you'll give us the opportunity to prove it.
Hey there, we are not attempting to make a money grab. Kittl is much more than an AI generation tool. We've also responded to the main thread here below. We do appreciate the feedback and voicing your frustration. We've notified internal teams of all comments.
@@Kittldesign I appreciate that you are reading comments and responding. Although, the only response I received via email felt pre-written and did not address my concerns. While I understand that not all users use all of their credits every single day, for me that is because the daily credits model is inefficient. For efficiency, I prefer to work in batches. You can't do that with daily credits that don't rollover. Having all credits available at the beginning of the month IS actually a good idea. (And it's what other AI services are already doing.) BUT not 75% LESS credits. That's an extreme decline, especially after the 20% decrease in AI credits just a few short weeks before. And almost all of Kittl's other features are available in Canva's free version. After working in Canva for years, I switched to Kittl because of the value of the AI credits and the convenience of having Kittl's other tools available within the same platform. That value will no longer exist as of December 1st and the convenience isn't worth the decrease. This doesn't work for me and thousands of others. If you execute this change, I will be canceling my subscription.
Hey im new to print on demand and still a noob at designing too😅. So i have a question.. if i use colours with a lower opacity on top of other colours, will the printer have any problem on printing that? Sometimes when I want to add shades to my design I just draw the shape of the shade in black and then reduce the opacity so it creates the actual shade effect but will the printer be able to print that lower opacity colour? I ask this because I see everyone adding the shape of the shade on top of the main colour and then just colour it in the same colour of the main colour but just with a bit darker tone. (They have de main colour red and then they do the shade in a darker red for example.) My doubt is if it will work the way I do it or do I need to do it like everybody else does.😅
Great question! But for a strong answer, you will need to check with the provider you plan to print with. They will be able to tell you if any layering or issues with transparency will take place. From our experience, most of the time there is no issue, but occasionally a printer will have difficulty distinguishing the middle overlayed color. For print on demand, typically there will be a error or warning notification that pops up stating that there is a transparency issue.
Always make sure to consult the provider for their preferred sizes. Typically there is a web page or PDF with size suggestions, but it may take a little bit of searching to find it.
Hey there, I'm not sure we have specific trucker-esque designs, but you can definitely create ones with our rugged and outdoor style elements, and rugged style fonts for sure!
I just started garment design printing a week ago and my remaining problem seems to be at the design stage. I'm unable to print border less printouts. I don't want to manually cut the print outs as this will not result in smooth, clear designs before transferring. It seems like such a simple problem but I've asked everyone from Rich Kuhn to Mr Santos (experts) about fixing my issues to no avail. I'm starting with the basics, inkjet printer, transfer paper and domestic iron. If I can't produce clean transfers using this equipment I see no reason to invest in the next level of equipment. I'm using online editors like Canva. What am I missing? How do I design/print border-free designs? Thanks! =).
Hey there. I'm not sure we can help further if you've already consulted with one of our collaborators, Rich, who is a master at printing yourself. Generally, the way to print borderless comes from making sure you turn off borders in your print settings. There should be no issues with whatever design platform you are using.
@@Kittldesign And, are you familiar with these printer settings being universal for most/all printers and, do you recommend any printers to achieve these results? Also, are you saying the design process (in any platform) is not a contributor of bordered designs, etc? Thanks! =).
@@Kittldesign Thanks! The more I go through my trial and error with this, I've learned that my main issue has been the transfer paper. I'm using, I guess, basic iron-on paper (requires cutting, peeling, etc). The paper is what is producing backgrounds/borders, obviously. My designs don't have this. I figured the 'experts' would be able to figure out what my trials are and give me the 'bottom line' of how merch designs are made. Looks like my next step is to use DTF or whatever other transfers that will not replicate my issues. =).
Hey there, we have a ton of great tutorials on our channel for how to get started with design in Kittl, from editing templates, to creating designs from scratch. It is a great way to learn.
Hey there! Thanks for the feedback. We do believe they are great general rules, especially for those looking to start in print on demand! Of course your specific niches and style come into play. Cheers!
We have many templates you can get started with, but you can also start completely from scratch. We have tons of videos on how to create your own t-shirt design from scratch. This video was showing examples that follow the rules mentioned.
@@KittldesignI hear ya, but not just any 90s streetwear. I'm talking about "vintage rap tees" .. check it out, its a specific aesthetic that has been taking over, people have gone beyond rap and added all type of popular figures to them. Kittl might wanna look into that
Trying to find a video thata speaks of how high a line of text, for example, should be on the canvas. All the way up? Half-way down?... Where's the vertical center o fthe message?, the logo -- whatever.
This will largely depend on the medium of use. Will the design be a poster, a t-shirt, in a book, on a card? You cannot sell Kittl SVG files on Etsy to be used for digital use, but if you are creating your own in some other platform or tool, then of course you can. :)
This will depend on the AI you are using, and whether or not it is in beta or not. But with Kittl AI, of course you can use those designs on your products!
@@Kittldesign thank you for responding! It's nice, I was able to create a free trial and goof around with it last night. Might just be a huge help. Thank you!

Hey there! We're not sure what you mean specifically, but I believe we have a ton of other helpful videos for you on the channel, for t-shirt design, as well as finding a niche for print on demand or selling on your own.
@@Kittldesign I appreciate appreciate all that you do but a great many of us don't have a thousand foot space to work out of or a printer that will do a 4 foot square print or a 10 thousand dollar heat press. Keep us little guys in mind when you are offering assistance. We are the ones needing assistance
Using the full layout for everything is lame. If you want to stand out make the size of your design proportional to the shirt. Consider the fact that everything around your design is negative space. It should be considered as part of your design. That means that not every design is going to look cool huge on your shirt. Tee shirts are a form of art, and good art is a balance of nuances. You can spot easily a "Red Bubble" "Society Six" shirt. They ALL use the same template no matter what the design. Next time you see a really cool shirt, like a celebrity wears ... Youll notice it doesnt follow the generic Print On Demand template.
Sure, these are just general tips and guidelines in a long list of potential styles you can utilize for t-shirt designs. Following a format to begin with is helpful for beginners.
Hey there! Tip number 1 is about filling the entire space of the shirt. Many times, users can make the mistake of putting a small design, or an off-centered design on their t-shirt, and they are potentially wasting a lot of valuable space for a design! So we suggest filling the full rectangular shape of a t-shirt with your design. Cheers!

how many colors need to use in your opinion?
How you return items?
If you execute this change, I will be canceling my subscription.
can i use your design from you website to make t shirt design?
Yes. :)
@@Kittldesign thanks,❤
You are AWESOME!!! TY
Thank you for the kind words.
Is this for screen printing?
The same rules could be applied to screen printing for sure!
I'm still have issues with sizing logos/designs for pod
Always make sure to consult the provider for their preferred sizes. Typically there is a web page or PDF with size suggestions, but it may take a little bit of searching to find it.
@@Kittldesign om thanks
wow, great video. thanks so much
hey please add the feature where I can turn my logo into a 3d spinning logo and also the T-shirts if that is possible
Hey there! What you desire sounds like it may better be done in a program like Blender or another 3D modeling program. 😉
@@Kittldesign okay thank you, one more thing how do I change the color of the T-shirt with this Kittl software? is this possible?
Hey my friend i love your designs but I'm a trucker and I need designs for truckers do you provide that on the site?
Hey there, I'm not sure we have specific trucker-esque designs, but you can definitely create ones with our rugged and outdoor style elements, and rugged style fonts for sure!
@@Kittldesign ok so you're saying move things around and change elements and fonts to make it look cool and appealing to the trucking industry
@@Keenway Sure. We have a large library of illustrations and elements that I'm sure will fit into that category. :)

Glad to hear that!
I'm totally new into designing where should I start from?
Hey there, we have a ton of great tutorials on our channel for how to get started with design in Kittl, from editing templates, to creating designs from scratch. It is a great way to learn.
My tees I put ode sing a only at the back
Is that a good idea
Putting the design on the back? Sure! It all depends on what kind of style and niche you are going for, and who your target audience is.

Hi, can someone use these designs for printify.?
Yes!
THese are good tips but only for specific style... for sure not general rules..
Hey there! Thanks for the feedback. We do believe they are great general rules, especially for those looking to start in print on demand! Of course your specific niches and style come into play. Cheers!
I thought you were talking about T-shirt design, but it's a promotion for pre-made graphics that a designer has already designed.
We have many templates you can get started with, but you can also start completely from scratch. We have tons of videos on how to create your own t-shirt design from scratch. This video was showing examples that follow the rules mentioned.

kittl doesnt have 90s rap style tees templates. Its been the hottest thing for the past few years
We do have a ton of 90s streetwear style designs! Maybe not specifically about "rap" but they can be easily edited to do so. Cheers! 😉
There are principles and design tactics to help with this, but sometimes what looks good to the eye is also important. The rules of t shirt design. Rule number one, there are no rules.
It can be helpful to start with general guidelines, but it is true that sometimes you never know what will succeed!
16 X 20??? I doubt that most people don't have either a printer or a press that will go that large.
Most print on demand providers can utilize this size! And it's also always better to start bigger and scale down, then to try to do the opposite.
So you don't want the design to distract from the design?
If the design perhaps has too much going on and is not legible or understandable, then it could be considered distracting.
Sorry , not understand clearly rule number 1 .Could you explain more how is wrong! Maybe my english is limied to understand , but thanks
Cheers!
@@Kittldesign ohhh, thanks for your explain again. Appreciate that👍👍👍
