I love how this is about so much more than feeding the birds. It is essentially about looking with kindness to those who care for the little ones, while having little themselves. And I could definitely see it sung in churches.
To extend a hand, to do something you yourself deem small and without use or purpose... Only to be a kindness of grandeur to the other who needs it most. And of all the times that, even though it'd be easy, no one extended that hand.
The two lines "all around the cathedral the saints and apostles look down as she's selling her wares Although you can see it you know they are smiling each time someone shows that he cares" always make me tear up I love this song so much!
This song is so beautiful. I tear up every time I hear it. No wonder why, this was Walt Disney's favorite song. The Sherman brothers are amazing. Actually, I wish I could meet Walt Disney himself and thank him for Mary Poppins. It's a masterpiece!
This was Walt Disney's favourite song in fact at the end of the day on Fridays he would invite the Sherman brothers into his office the three of them (the two brothers and Walt) would talk for a little while and then Walt would look at Richard Sherman and say "Play it" and then Richard would go over to a piano and play "Feed the Birds".
Also this is when he found he had lung cancer. The Sherman brothers said when they would go talk to Walt in his office he would be listening to this song looking out his window with a tear in his eyes.
@@jessicamays8892 if that is true then that's really sad. 😞. He bought such happiness and joy to others, he deserved to be happy himself. R.I.P. Walt Disney. Your legacy still remains.
The way she sings the line "Listen, listen, she's calling to you" has the most audible smile in music history. And it is so infectious that I can't help break into my own while singing and just naturally fills my heart with ridiculous amounts of joy
my mom and i randomly started singing this song total improvised in a bathroom and an old woman came up to us afterwards and said it was the most beautiful rendition of that song she had ever heard ☺️ i was so proud
Synchronicity at its most powerful instance: I was yearning for some Mary Poppins and Mr. Banks scenes and music an hour ago for no apparent reason (so I thought) and saved the best for last, Walt's favorite song. As I'm listening to this moving song, I was struck with the realization that your tribute was meant for TODAY. It is just past midnight, December 5. I am deeply moved, for Walt is my absolute idol. He was like a second dad every Sunday (via the picture tube) after my own passed away in 1962. Then Walt died 4 years later. As I was folding papers for my newspaper route I caught the headline, went numb, and cried like a baby. Thank you for your thoughtful birthday wish which reminded me of this special day.
This song is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and Walt loved it so much he requested that it be played at his funeral. I'd like it played at mine too when the time comes. Hopefully not for a long time yet.
I wonder how much a bag of breadcrumbs costs in these modern times, though. More than two pence, I'm sure. But I think it's still a small price to pay to feed the birds. As long as we still have them around, at least. (Prayers for the people and the animals living in Australia, where the bush fires are still burning, as of this writing {19th of Jan 2020}.)
Don't get me wrong--I love "Chim Chim Cher-ee" as much as I love all the other songs on this soundtrack. But how is it THAT got the Oscar nom (and statue) while this song, the emotional center of the movie, the first melody we hear in the overture, a personal favorite of Walt's, didn't?
Walt probably loved it so much, at least in part, because Julie Andrews did such a wonderful job of singing the song. It's truly a marvelous performance.
This song was my lullaby when I was a child and even now it makes me sleepy. The 51 dislikes on this video are from those who have no heart and should be ashamed of themselves for doing so.

I agree. The og was incredible in every way the new one is nothing really just a bog standard decent film I might watch if its on telly but I wouldn't seek it out
This seriously was always my favorite Disney song growing up and now I listen to it and really hear the lyrics I know why. Have compassion and love for others even with the little amount they might do. Just because you don’t have a lot doesn’t mean you can’t do so much kindness and goodness in this world. ❤
I was chosen to dong this in my musical theatre group, and once I listened I felt so wonderful that I was chosen to do this very song. I wasnt playing Mary Poppins, but I was still chosen to do this even though I didn't ask and I feel so happy that this is the song I do. 😊
There's a story about this Richard Sherman was in Walt Disney's 100th Birthday Celebration at Disneyland. He was playing the piano right next to the Walt Disney Partner statue he was playing Walt Disney's favorite from Disney movies. He said, "I'm going to play one of Walt Disney's favorite songs of all it's Feed the Birds song in Mary Poppins". After he was done playing the song he turned to the Walt Disney Partners statue blowing a kiss to the statue saying, Happy Birthday Walt. But suddenly out of the clear blue sky a bird flew down on to the piano where Richard Sherman was playing it chirped and it flew off knowing that was a spirit of Walt Disney saying "Thanks!" I was so surprised and impressed when I heard that incredible story it touched me so deeply that I want to sing that song for myself to sing it to Walt Disney up in heaven along aside with my grandparents after all I'm a huge Disney Fan and a Freak too besides the best thing that I love about Disney the art animation and Animated movies but I really do love Mary Poppins especially Feed the Bird song. Happy Birthday Walt Disney.
I sing this song so many times I think about Walt Disney knowing that's his favorite song of all On every December 5th I sing Feed the Birds song just for him especially on his birthday. I keep singing that song for him to let him know and saying thank you for bringing Disney Animated movies to life you will always be a part of my childhood forever I will always watching Disney Animated movies that will make me feel very happy, loved, positive, and laughter too and that's the best part that I really love. Sometimes I wonder every time that I sing Feed the Birds song I keep looking up to the skies of heaven if my grandparents and Walt Disney could hear me singing the song all the time just for them. I wonder if Walt Disney and my grandparents spirits of an animal are tiny birds chirping. for letting them know it's a sign that they can hear me it's a mystery that will always haunts my mind.
This song was just sooo perfect for Mr. Banks walking up to the bank in the foggy night. For some odd reason, and it has made me cry too, I’ve pictured the ghost of my grandfather walking towards me on a foggy plaza in a city.
My brother just had a high school play and it was Mary Poppins and I loved it so much, so I decided to sing some of the songs for a school concert/show.
