    Just fixed my gearbox with the same bearing problem! Just that one bearing made my van sound horrendous!! Really thought I needed a full rebuild or replacement box but this video gave me the idea to try and replace it and it works absolutely perfect now! Many thanks for this video and not to mention the money I have saved! 👍

    It strikes me that the gasket will be part of the calculations of end float on the gearbox shafts. Without it, there will be excessive preload on the taper bearings on each end of those shafts. Would take some time but I would expect those bearings to fail earlier than they should - might be a tad noisy, as well.

    • @andrewmicas4327
      @andrewmicas4327 Год назад +2

      The Ford boxes used have Belville spring washer behind outer taper race so that was the pre-load. Early escorts with larger engines that had the clutch dropped hard, flattened the Belville washers. First symptom was damaging speedo gear. Those and worn camshaft etc. paid off my mortgage in 10 years. These were done after work at nights loved the Fords good to repair, plus rusty bodywork.🤣🤣🤣

    In the "real world", a vehicle wouldn't reach 200k where the bearing might fail. A Ford would either be scrapped due to corrosion or the cost of a DMF and clutch. Alan's vehicles are different because they run up a huge mileage in just a few years. Useful information for Ford themselves.

    Hello and thank you very much for this video. I have the same problem. Same comment as other people about fitting a sealed bearing. My level of English does not allow me to understand the comments. I have a few questions: type of thread lock used, tightening torque of the screw and where you position the magnet in the box when reassembling. During disassembly it fell. Thank you very much for an answer. I use google translate.

    Looks to me the only bearing in the box that is sealed both sides ..the others are open to the gearbox oil ...perhaps that's the fault..maybe one seal should to be removed, to save the bearing spinning in its own detritus..not getting washed out with clean oil constantly like the others...thanks very much Alan, excellent video ..is that an mtx75 box ? f so, maybe you should mention that somewhere.. and i don't know on my connect mtx75 box ..there seems to be a plate over that bearing ..like it could be changed with the box still in the van?

Question how do you know the oil level is ok in the transit gear box. On ford over many years you take out the oil level plug and if it drips out its ok. I have been told its different on the ford custom. Could you tell us or do a video on how you check it much appreciated. Michael nottingham 👍

    Hi Alan, do you perhaps know if a gearbox bearing can be replaced seperated? I own a Ford Focuys 1.8TDCI from 2005, and while driving the car I hear a humming noise. When pressing the clucht while driving the sound is gone, by releasing it comes instant back no matter what gear. I noticed how higer I rev the car the more noise it makes.

    I thought you would have picked the seal out for inspection before your attacked it with Freddie five inch
    Bearing seems to be a common fault maybe poor quality bearing supply or is wrong application putting a sealed bearing within a gearbox think I would either of removed the seals or one for the oil to circulate through it
    Maybe have this conversation in another 250 thousand miles down the road.... Till the next time. See yah !

    • @FatHead1979
      @FatHead1979 Год назад

      Personally I'd be leaning towards it being scenario 2, FAG make OEM quality bearings and using a sealed bearing in the way Ford have, doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Although with 200K+ on the box, maybe Ford aren't bothered because it's well outside its warranty period.

    What causes the pitted bearings , are they coated and not one single material ball ?? Is it grease breaking down the cause of the pitted ness. Do I take it expensive bearings don’t break down until moon miles ???

    • @isbemorph
      @isbemorph Год назад

      I'd say the bearing was fitted too tight. If that was a cone bearing with a tiny hair of play it would last forever.
      [edit] 6:06 these three bolts hold the bearing but also preload it. So the bigger the torque, the more the balls are squeezed between the outer and inner race.

    • @isbemorph

      Pull the door panel and check if a module gets its power and ground. If not feed it with +12V from the battery to see if it starts working. I had such issue, it turned out to be a corroded power cable inside the rubber grommet sleeve between the body and the door.
