Thank you for doing the only demo that uses a 5 string bass with this pedal. I was wondering how the clank and clarity of a Harris type of tone would work on a 5 string bass. Granted this demo was driving the gain hard which I love but I was wondering about 5 string clarity. So if you have any thoughts on that I would love to hear them.
I was shocked too. I'm using a rig that's really the exact opposite of Harris being active pickups and some pretty bright roundwound strings and it took almost no knob turning to get that core sound of his. Some serious Voodoo going on in that box! Thanks for checking it out.
Awesome demo! I recently made one as well, and was thinking to try making another one with an amp and a mic, which I think it's where this pedal really shines
Funny you ask, I was just getting into that. I've set up a added boost before it , and a little chorus and phaser. It really has exceptional clarity and seems to be able to retain a really brilliant and articulate sound without getting sandbagged by additional processors. Really surprised and pleased on that front. Thanks for watching!
Bro your channel 2 jams fucking rock!!! The Schecter sounds amazing!!! you went from sounding just like Steve Harris to sounding exactly like you! Extremely Impressive Sir.
The schecter apocalypse has had a huge success, sold out . I like when I approve a bass like a good heavy metal bass then succeed as sold out. Good sensation
Thanks George! It depends a bit on what styles you generally do. They both share a common area, but the Harris does best everything from his tone to guys like Geezer, Dave Ellefson, Frank Bello, etc. Most traditional metal bass and would do 90% of the jobs. It can get mean distortion, but not complete insanity. The Dug is if you need that step up to guitar level distortion and really extended lows and highs. Modern metal, etc. It can also do more traditional tones, but will have more bite, cut, and aggression. I hope that helps. Thanks for checking it out!
@@RodneyMcG thanks for your detailed response, it was very helpful. My taste is more on traditional rock/metal bass with Harris, Butler and Geddy Lee being my main influences. So I guess this little device goes in my xmas list. I second that for the cab sim pedal, it would be a great addon
I think it will serve you well. One channel for Harris and Butler, and another channel for a bit more drive to go Geddy! Check in with how it works for you!
Hi Are the galloping parts more easier to do with the Steve Harris pedal ? Does the bite switch can make the Round strings sound a bit like Flats ? Thanks
A pedal isn't going to help your technique, so the gallop won't change. The bite switch adds attack so it's more likely to make flats sound closer to rounds.
Steve Harris doesn't really use distortion, so the Tube screamer is going to be way overkill. He has a little gain to get clarity, but there isn't much drive in his tone. You can get close to it through a number of methods, but of course his signature pedal is the fastest!
Gas Man that's awesome that you hooked up with the YYZ. That's another great one. I don't think you'll be sorry picking up the Harris pedal. I'm pretty sure Tech 21 is just trying to see how many people they can bankrupt before the first of the year!
One question, with SH1 pedal would it be necessary to add a compressor pedal? Or the SH1 already adds some compression and it wouldn't be necessary? Thank you very much!! Best regards!!
@@RodneyMcG my banker won't agree with you 😂 I need a built-in tuner and XLR DI out, so need to make my choice between the SH1 and the dUg. That's why I'd need to know which of the two could dig the best rush tone 🙂
So let's talk about something...Steve Harris, playing in a genre that gets slighted by the masses, still getting sig gear after almost 50 years in the game. #influential Have a good Thanksgiving, Rodders... **passes out with Heineken in hand and full belly**
I'm doing the next Metal Bass Microscope episode on Steve Harris and i'm going to talk about some of the more recent opinions on him and his legacy. His contribution is definitely deeper than people would think. Thanks so much for the holiday greeting, and all the best to you and yours. I can almost hear the rumble of an impending food coma now!
@@RodneyMcG Looking forward to it! When I got heavily in to music, when I was around 8, it was the early/mid 80's. There was no way he couldn't have had an affect on me as that was probably Maiden's peak in terms of popularity. Powerslave, Live After Death (which I probably watched 100 times in a row, trying to see how he played); important stuff for me as a kid. I think certain aspects of their music hasn't aged as well as other groups with a good chunk of today's kids (good luck getting them to not skip through parts of the powerhouse that is 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'!), especially if they listen to a lot of modern radio. They were/are all great musicians though and, crucially, could pull it all off on the stage.
@@r.w.culbertson2030 sounds like we have the same era in common! Powerslave was my first concert and I remember it being utterly overwhelming being a little kid and the first metal show I ever saw was this massive presentation! And just like you I watched and spent several years woodshedding away on live after death and all the maiden albums from that era. That's a mean sounding pedal,I like where those mids are placed as they're both places I like to boost to get my sound nice and dark to separate it from a really gained out upper mid focused guitar tone,
Rodney McG have you tested the capability of this particular unit as a boost into an amp rig of any sort, it looks like it could really clean house and add some spice to an amp that doesn't have much inherent flavor like a carvin pro bass series or anything of that nature
Rodney McG that sounds like a huge combination especially with the crazy amount of gain the dug can offer, although out of curiosity have you ever thought to try some of these units with guitar to see how they fare as preamps into a power amp and cab/impulse response the geddy especially has that upper mid response that I associate with high gain rhythm guitar
Thank you, great review. Bought mine a week ago, and love it, even boost the sound from my little ol' Fender bxr60 practice combo i got in the early 90s🤘🤘🤘

Awesome tone and review Rodney. Glad to finally see the unit after so many months! Great stuff!
Thanks Alfie! Good to see you, and thanks for the kind words!
Nice to find a video of someone using this and NOT using a P bass! Excellent video
Glad you liked it!
I've been doing research on this pedal, I was sooo pleased to see that you had a video demo on it!
I have one coming Wednesday. I can't wait to try it out.
Nice! Check back in with how it works out for you. Thanks for checking out the demo!
I play a P bass through a Marshall 4x12, the cab is a massive part of the tone. This pedal interests me only because of the 4x12 element.
I sed to have a 4x12 loaded with those EV12ls. It's a killer setup, no doubt! Thanks for checking it out!
You're amazing my friend, new Tech 21 stuffs are taking the world by storm, I love em.

Does it have enough low end , it sounds at least on You Tube bit thin? Except for that its amazing and great sounding device.
Plenty of low end, it's all in how you choose to dial it in
that 'modern & mean' setting is really good. and I just notice you just change the gain and level, very cool!
