He's regularly put down as the best metal bassist of all time. Cliff Burton and Geezer Butler are the only ones to occasionally take the title over him. John Myung is far better technically, but less influential in metal overall (late in the game and less universal). Dave Ellefson also gives him a run for his money, though the influence thing really comes into play again.

Steve Harris is a pure badass on the bass. Him and Nikko are locked together tighter than two coats of paint. Most of the lyrics belong to Steve as well. •  5 лет назад +3

Hey Pat. Thanks. I actually noticed the fact when I recorded my own. But you know, in those days and even nowadays, some bands do sound great together, a kind of alchemy sets out then, even though each of them sounds average or poor... and the band prevails over its individual member, doesn't it?

Amazing Job, Congrats. I know it`s always a controversial topic but i`ll include to the list The Number of the Beast Line bass. Definitely the line basses from Powerslave are the best and most difficult too. Up the Irons

Piece of mind and Powerslave are some of my favorite Iron maiden Albums and lately I have been more interested in how steve actually plays the base Because he seems to defy all metal norms and still get an absolutely killer metal sound.
Doesn't use a pick, still sounds heavy as hell,
plays with two fingers, still goes fast as fuck.
and I don't even know what he does with his thumb but he seems to mute alright.

Damn! Didn't even know that Flight of Icarus had that bass part at 0:36 - 0:38. Steve Harris is a genius if he actually played that! Thanks for tabbing it out for us!

Thanks a lot. Indeed! I learned everything the hard way as well. And now teens who discover Iron Maiden might learn quicker and better, but talent remains talent, whatever the aid ;) And I'm sure I can include you.

    English:
Steve Harris is still one of the best bass guitar players worldwide. His technique to play is very unique and on the stage, he's a real acrobat with the three guitar players. A reference on the bass guitar. Steve Harris is an icon and a legendary bass player.

Great stuff! I've always loved the bass parts in The Prisoner. The challenging part for me is the stamina of my plucking fingers. Especially towards the end, there is no rest!

    •  4 года назад +1

Thanks, I know, stamina is the key, try to involve as little muscle as possible to get the best results . Most bassists exhaust themselves by pumping too much from their muscles while they could do the same performance with twice as less energy. DG

Man, I've been a Bass player since I was 15, played in many Bands, was Semi Pro for 7 years and then Pro for 13 years in Australia.
I'm now 63 and don't play much now due to the efforts of the parasitical components of our society that think they are in control.... pick your Parasite and Head Butt them at the first opportunity..... there are many to chose from.
Anyway, s'cuse the "off topic" rant......I've watched many Vids of Bass players and am amazed at what they can do with a Bass.... Steve (and indeed yourself) blow me away with Finger playing at such speed.
We all play different music, in my line I never needed to learn Slap ( much as I love hearing it) or the speed that Steve and yourself can do, I am from a time when things were a bit slower by todays standards, but the best were just "really good" and layed the foundation of what came after..... the fastest bass line I have had to learn and am proud to say I did it was "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick". !6/8 Time.... Norman Watt Roy...... Brilliance!
    Rock on my friend....
If Steve needs a day off...... you're that Man to fill in..... The fans will approve, and so will the band....... the Die Hard Fans will want their money back, but they knew and came anyway....so fuck them.

And warm up your hands and wrists before attempting. If you don't your hand tendons will feel like they are on fire, your coordination will be off, your fingers will feel sluggish. The simple tasks for bass players is often over looked. This sounds weird but build up your finger tip calluses. Songs like Mariner or Losfer Words are very fast, and playing aggressively can cause blood blisters. 34 years as a bass guitarist tells me so.
