    He just has to be the leader of the team and ensure the focus of the team is right. Other than that, he has already done what is needed - gotten the top players to commit. The only thing missing, is to ensure that the focus if the team is defense and not offense. They will handle the offense, but team defense is always an issue for a team that has not played together for long

      I imagine LeBron will have the same role as Kobe in 2012. Both very capable players and athletes, but certainly not in their prime anymore and best served in a more leadership-oriented role.

    • @IGqy
      @IGqy 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@Dedman_Tech I think your right, but i do think Kobe was a more capable defender at that point in his career than Lebron is at this point in his career - at least on ball defender. Lebron is quite a bit older and has never been the same on ball defender that Kobe was. I do think he is every bit the leader and perhaps even more so than Kobe at this point

    Why is the Olympics taken more seriously than the FIBA World Cup? In every other sport I can think of the Olympics is seen as prestigious but less so than the other titles like the world cup for football, cricket or rugby. If all these players care about international titles why not try win the basketball specific competition?

    • @kaikaichen
      @kaikaichen 11 месяцев назад +8

      It depends on the sport, but there's no real pattern to it. Though I think those three sports you listed are the exception rather than the rule.... I'm pretty sure the Olympics is taken more seriously than the "World Cup" or "World Championship" equivalent for sports like Gymnastics, Figure Skating, Track & Field, Swimming, Diving, all the winter sports, etc.
      I also theorize that the ’92 Dream Team is what gave Olympic Basketball its prestige and glamour.

    • @calving5309
      @calving5309 11 месяцев назад

      Those sports are largely individual rather than the ones I listed which are team sports. Generally the athlete themself wins the medal rather than it being the best of the nation together on a team and even then the world and Olympic championships are quite equal. @@kaikaichen

      Soccer handicaps the Olympics by forcing most players on the team to be under 21 specifically so it doesn't compete with the World Cup, and World Cup had historical precedence. With basketball, dream team, etc. made the Olympics this event for basketball.

    • @calving5309
      @calving5309 11 месяцев назад

      @@philipmartin3902 it’s under 23 but that is a good point, I didn’t consider the differences. I do find it interesting that basketball with the global reach in it’s own right doesn’t prioritise the sport specific event over the olympics where it can easily be overshadowed with all the other events going on. I would have thought 32 teams in the WC vs 12 at the olympics would make the WC more valued too.

    Most likely team USA will try to get the best young players to also join. A lot of the players that are being called up are old, or injury prone. Having young players that can play the whole game just in case is a really good idea. Especially if LeBron said he won’t be playing as much and will kinda just be the figure head. I think they’ll really need a good mix of defence and offence. And probably need to work together on chemistry as soon as possible since that’ll really be helpful when games are going down to the wire and during moments of stress you don’t wanna mess up due to poor communication.

    LeBron has seriously lost his shooting touch (both from 3 and midrange) and is also not that good in isolation anymore. I don't think he is that important to team USA besides a vocal leader. If they can get Steph-Booker-Tatum-Durant-Adebayo that's a killer lineup (I'm taking your worst case scenario with both Embiid and Davis injured). With Dame, Jrue, Ant, Butler, Kawhi, George and JJJ I think you have a more than capable team. If we assume one of Embiid/Davis is available they can replace George and we are good for gold

    this is a video plain hating. Watch the full games and the entire team LeBron was playing at the 4 or the 5.
    Heck watch LeBron play Jokic in the WCF last year.
    It's true that he takes plays off but he still is probably the best post defender against a guy like Jokic outside of maybe Draymond.

    U guys do know that he dont have to drop 30 right? He can just pass and play less minutes. This time Lebron will be playing wih Steph f ing Step and Kd. Now u add 2 way players and a good real rim protector to help on defense

    Embiid choosing the US over France or Kamerun is yet again a showing of his weakness and inability to win.
    Like Durant with GSW, but even more egregious.
    Would have loved to see USA vs. France with Embiid battling against the best. In Paris! The atmosphere would have been great, and Embiid would have received more praise even if France lost.

    Well, TEAM USA is fine, not great but fine, their usual formula still isn't broken, which is fast break and a pushing style 1v1 defense on all five positions, the only weaker link is centre, Bam is the only candidate, however Joel Embiid just anounced he will join so that's solved, and at this stage Lebron can't run that much, he can still run and defend just only in 5 minute bursts. The point runner will be fine, just pick from one of three, Haliburton Cunningham and Lamelo, Lamelo is not good on defense but he is fast which means he won't be bad on FIBA court, and he is the best shooter that makes it even, sure Haliburton has high accuracy, but he doesn't have that quick release, with main scorer like Tatum Booker and Ant, the point guard does need to shoot fast.

    I don't get why an American star would be interested in Team USA. If they win, you just did what you were supposed to do. If you lose, it's a big humiliation in front of the world. Also, best American talents are too old to carry: LeBron, KD, Steph, CP3, etc. LeBron can't and won't save Team USA.

    • @IxcaC
      @IxcaC 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@optimusprime028 Curry, Booker, Tatum, Davis, and Embiid or substitute Davis for Durant when you need more shooting.
      Point is, you get to like the third best five until you could use a LeBron with another season under his belt.
      Give him credit for what he's doing off the court to rally the troops, so to speak, but he can't help the elite anymore because he's not the best of the best anymore.
