  • I mixed up 'turquoise' and 'teal' a few times, but it's definitely cobalt teal! Also, by 'synthetic' I mainly mean 'non-earth pigments' or pigments not usually found in their useful form in nature... These aren't synthetic dyes. Sorry if it's not quite the correct terminology! Doing voice-overs on the fly is tricksy.
The brush I used in the first paint is from Paul Rubens. I ordered it on Amazon!

I really like the gradient test on the right of your swatch sheet. It looks like a moody landscape

I love your positive viewpoint in regards to paints not performing like you expected or like you're used to in how you said "I'm still trying to figure out how to use them in a way that plays to their attributes" or something to that effect. I know so many people -- often myself included -- who like to just completely discount stuff that doesn't work quite like we expect, but when you said that I thought about how paints are unique, just like everything, and they're not all going to perform the same way, and, frankly, as artists, we shouldn't want them to. We should want that difference so that we can figure out the paints' strengths and weaknesses and use them when we need those particular looks. That's such an awesome perspective that has really opened my eyes and I thank you for it!

I had the same experience with their earth colors, dirty grit particles that are unlike normal beautiful granulation. I recently got the Qor mini half pan set and it drove me nuts because I try to be very controlled with shading and this paint is anything BUT controllable lol. It's downright unruly with their special binder, I find every color wants to spread across the whole page if I'm doing wet in wet. Particularly difficult if you like to soften the edges of your washes with water (for example to make blush on a face blend out into a soft gradient). They are great for abstract chaos on wet as you have shown, and can be used for detail work on dry too. They truly have beautiful intense colors, I hope you find great uses for them :)

QOR paints are lovely. I have the 24 set and love how they don't shrink when put in half pans. I find them harder to lift than other paints because of how highly staining they are.

The packaging is really cute and I like the wells they provided. The colors are beautiful.

I liked your video. I've fallen in love with these which completely surprised me. The QOR Mini is one of my most favorite pre-made palettes. I'd really like to get a bottle of Golden's Aquazol to see if my other paints shoot all across the page like these do! I know not everyone appreciates these in the same way, but for myself, they make the process of painting with watercolor even more fun. 😍

Barbra Loveless they also have a synthetic ox gall in there qor paint so it’s probably not just the aquazol.

Honestly for me working with qor I like to use watered down layers rather than wet on wet if I want a lot of control. I think the layering properties are amazing though and honestly that what suits my style the most.

True qor earth colors are not that good... but the bright colors are really awesome! Especially this set you test in the video are reeeally great colors! The cobalt teal and transparent pyrrol orange are my favorite ones but the pyrrol is really staining!

I love my QoRs, but the earth tones are definitely not their strength. Their colors are stunning though. Quin magenta, diox purple, and ultramarine are definitely my favorites, they all just jump through the water.

I wish the set had a primary yellow like their Nickel Azo or Hansa yellows. I'd give up the Green Gold for that.

There isn't really a primary blue either since the cobalt teal is opaque, very granulating and so light. This set isn't meant to be used as an everyday palette, although you can still pick some nice triads.

Okay, I’d convinced myself not to buy this one. When I saw those beautiful desaturated colors you managed, though, I had to reconsider! Thanks for sharing!
