There is an unforgivable lack of frank gambale transcriptions online you are doing everyone a huge service with these pls keep making them they are insanely useful
As a Gambale addict, that warms my heart! I assume these transcriptions will be in his guitar school at some point? Would you happen to be working on the "Made in Australia" live album. I think it showcases some of his best tone and soloing. Take care and thanks for all the hard work!
Another insane transcription! Bow before Levi's skills muahahaha... I love Frank Gambale's analogy of pick slanting during various sweeping and alt picking passages akin to the way a motorcycle rider leans into corners, you can't escape the physics/biomechanics.
For anyone looking for a little detour in practice routine, I suggest Frank’s “Chop Builder”. It’s very unique in that it’s structured like a long fitness workout video. Really good for stamina, and some of the licks are pretty damn challenging to play without any breaks!
Interestingly, unlike a lot of Frank’s playing, this is mostly pentatonic blues. He is still criminally underrated by some because of his involvement in jazz rather than metal, but he definitely belongs in the Top 10, if not Top 5 guitar players of all time.
The Natives are Restless 👌. WoW what a solo to decipher 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Saw The Thunder from Down under with the Chick Corea Elektric Band in Nashville, it was great seeing FG live.
Heard some of that recent Nuno solo, snd how it’s achieved without delay, with those four finger/four fret runs. Gambale just does those descending parts, of five notes, some four, but it’s almost like he’s strumming chords, with how close the notes are to one another.
I developed my picking style based on Frank Gambale's instructional videos about 25 years ago. I have loved his playing since then, particularly his work with Vital Information. My only complaint is I wish his tone were a bit less compressed, but thankfully his playing kind of makes you forget about it.
Very cool! Do you ever post the transcriptions in standard notation for those of us who can't read tabs? Thanks for all the great videos and transcriptions
@@LeviClay hey thanks for the quick response… And actually no I can't read tabs? I mean mechanically I can if I look at it and concentrate really hard and slowly, but it gets very confusing for me because I don't think in terms of fret numbers? I read notation and I'm old...lol... and I actually never studied or learn to read tabs and so when I look at tabs the rhythmic component is fine but the melodic component Is really odd to me and I have to count out where things are rather than just looking at the notes. I will take a look at the Patreon page. Thanks
@@TheZenguitarguy but the whole system behind Frank’s playing is about the way he fingers things. If you look at a lot of lines he plays in standard notation you’ll almost certainly not finger them correctly unless someone goes in and also writes string and finger numbers in the notation. You’re making a rod for your own back.
@@LeviClay That makes sense. I will look at the notation and compare it to the tabs and see if I can look at things that way. Thanks. I am working with your pal Jeff a lot right now on Transcribing my Ted Greene project and also another even more complicated project and am looking at transcriptions a lot these days! Not nearly as much as you but here it definitely makes sense to know the fingering strategy for sweeping. I appreciate the insight and the hard work you put in to do these transcriptions and videos.
I know you must get a hundred questions of different people you've done, but this just makes me think of early Al Di Meola. Have you ever tackled his stuff?

Damn I never knew he shredded this hard. I always see people arguing about Frank that he's great that he's not that great.. dammit if he didn't just melt my face out I'd say hes okat. But he's not. He's freaking awesome
I can’t imagine saying Frank isn’t that great. Shawn Lane wasn’t that great. Frank? He was a pioneer of guitar technique, shaping generations of players. He made countless great records with Chick Corea, not to mention his own HUGE catalogue of rich music to explore. Dude is a legend.
@@theharvardyard2356 beyond… the albums and videos that we already have? What more do we need? That’s not how it works though. The fan makes a positive claim. I reject it. It’s not on me to prove someone isn’t something, but for you to prove they are.
@@LeviClay Prove his worth as a player positive? I'm not the expert, so since I lack the technical language of analysis, the best I would be able to do from an objective standpoint is say I've never heard anyone have a negative word to say about him in all the years I've been a fan, and on the contrary I've heard a ton of reverence and positivity from some of the other most respected players in history, including players I personally idolize like Guthrie Govan, Paul Gilbert, Eric Johnson and Buckethead. From a subjective standpoint, I can say I personally find his playing incredibly unique, inventive, creative, expressive and inspiring. I was expecting that since you've analyzed his playing from a technical standpoint you'd be able to point out some objective flaws and shortcomings the rest of us have missed.

Absolutely colossal. So effortlessly clean. Complete mastery of the guitar.
Frank's fluidity for the complexity of the ideas he is playing is astonishing.
Incredible solo and transcription, but I hope the entire crew who filmed and edited this footage was fired
I was about to say that. How could any professional shoot such a footage like that...

Most of this video is just Frank making guitar face--all the playing was hid behind the onscreen tab.
Nope, watch the original video. The cameraman decided to just film Frank’s face, which made it extra hard.
