Frank Gambale just gained another fan. Just watching for a few minutes and I'm completely won over. He is the real deal. Thanks, Rick for introducing me to another great guitarist!
Ed, check out his work with Chick Corea and the electric band then graduate to Thunder from down Under! Frank is the real deal GIT Master teacher and all!
WOOOW!! I’m the crazy classical guitar player about to finish Frank Gambale’s Chop Builder(ultimate guitar workout) in rest stroke. Gambale is such a beast! 💪🏼💪🏼
..I’ve seen Frank with The Elektric Band several times…with VI several times..with different groups..I was lucky to meet him and even become sort of email buddies, he even signed my Ibanez FGM100. Frank’s not only a great musician he’s a nice guy and a class act..
Holy crap, Frank Gambale kicks ass!!!!! As does Rick Beato, who for some reason seems to be able to play anything with soul and precision! Rick Beato also happens to be the best interviewer out there when it comes to music-related stuff! \m/
Frank is a monster player and a great gentleman. I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago and got him to sign my Truth In Shredding cd. He showed me how to sweep and laid some advanced theory on me. Kept my mind swirling for weeks.
We got some great Australian guitarists but I hadn't heard of Frank untill you originally posted about him Rick, been checking out his music over the last few months..hes awesome cheers
Ever since the electrification of guitars, some jazz and classical snobs have deliberately put their fingers in their ears even if a composition is played note for note and the intonation is spot on.
Wow! I'm dazed. What great soloing, hearing all the changes as he moves thru the single note lines. Thanks Rick. There's a guitar course just in the last couple minutes of this video.
What a class act this guy. I’ve learned so much just listening to his logic. Also Rick, you’re also one of the better interviewers on this rotating rock presently hands down
literally the best lead guitarist that ive ever heard just, letting his secrets flow out of his mouth like he DOESN'T have the secrets of all guitar gods. THe interviewer host is a baller RUclips is a mountain of free guitar lessons, I'm literally losing my shit rn
Instantly one of my favorite videos ever. I could listen to him play through those changes all day. There's a lifetime of musical education just in that bit of playing. Frank is like the Yoda of guitar.
I was fortunate to see Frank with Corea's Elektric Band twice the last time they played in LA, which turns out really was their last time. Frank played flawlessly of course. During the show at Catalina's Jazz Club Alicia Keys was in the audience and sat in with the band! Thanks for sharing, RIck.
a great great guitare player ! he loves John Coltrane and rock music ! you can't put him in a box ! when i hear with chick Corea it's a fantastic guitar player ! it's why i love him !! sorry for my english !!
I’ve really enjoyed this. I’ve been at a place lately where I feel like I need something else and Frank is a great inspiration to me. After years of playing in bands that want to stick in a genre I’m craving the chance to mix the elements I love from blues, jazz, rock and even classical into something interesting. There’s beauty in every style of music and it just seems like a waste to separate them. Frank is a shining example that they can blend into something great.
Great stuff and yes Frank is a real good guy years ago met him a couple of times once a bunch of my musician friends went to see Vital Information? I think that was the band and he made a point of coming right over at break introduced himself asking if we were the local players. He was so down to earth and he is an amazing player!
I bought the remastered version of the Modes video a few days ago on Frank’s website. His two Mode books are probably the best explanation of modes ever.
Haaa! Now this is music! Love this. Hope we get to see/hear Frank a lot more. He's amazing and an really nice guy too. This is a great lesson in killer lead lines.
Frank's extra chords section sounds amazing! Thought is not the enemy of his flow, but his thought does not interfere. Like, he must be so far ahead of his hands, they finish on auto pilot while he is planning his next section. Mind boggling. If you could break down that solo, how epic!! Ü♥♫
Rick is such a great, gracious interviewer. And Frank...let's just say I'd love to hear him and Joe Bona step on to a stage, Bona could do all the EJ he wants Frank would circle him.
i shaved my head back in years a go when Frank visiting my country to give Masterclass, i removed the idea that rocker has to have long hair etc .. he can do anything without his hair, a Monster player!
Jazz guitarists in the heyday of the genre were few and far between. Charlies Christian. Maybe you can name another? One who regularly solo' d. A generation later there was Wes and Joe. Followed by Pat and George. Each instrument has its unique advantages (and disadvantages) for different styles. Been playing for 44 years and I can only hope to have his talent. At his heart he is blues rock purist.
One of my first songs to learn, when I could hardly play guitar was the rhythm part of Jaguar from Frank Gambale, what I was playing together with Tamas Szekeres at his guitar school concert. It was an incredible experience. It's a pity Rick you didn't play together with Frank.
Pre 1970 all the jazz albums (Kenny Burrell etc) had bongos on them. Inexplicable. Breaking the bongo sound was important for jazz. Your tone may be unnacceptable now but in the future jazz guys will embrace you.
The blues guitar solo never lies and this Frank Gambale's was incredible!
Frank is a monster. Figured that out back in the mid-80's. He's even better now.
Frank is a fretboard master. They don't get any better than Frank.
His sweeping is out of this world as well as being a great all around player. My personal favorite.
He is seriously one of the most insane guitarist of any era.
Frank is the boss
WOOOW!! I’m the crazy classical guitar player about to finish Frank Gambale’s Chop Builder(ultimate guitar workout) in rest stroke. Gambale is such a beast! 💪🏼💪🏼
His blues playing is one of my favourite aspects of his music. You can always hear the changes with Frank’s playing.
King Frank! Long live the king!
Great, great, great! Frank Gambale!!!!
Frank is incredible
Frank is the man , all guitarists should dive into some of his stuff , he can rip
Im surprised more shredheads dont know this guy, he can hang with anyone
The best player you have had on your entire history of vids. Bravo Rick and Frank
That was mind opening. The ‘extra’ changes were so clear in his soloing.
..I’ve seen Frank with The Elektric Band several times…with VI several times..with different groups..I was lucky to meet him and even become sort of email buddies, he even signed my Ibanez FGM100. Frank’s not only a great musician he’s a nice guy and a class act..
He makes difficult things look easy.
One phenomenal guitarist talking sharing his theoretical and musical ideas with another - and us! We’re fortunate indeed.🙏👍🇬🇧🎸🙏
Frank is so freakin' great, no matter what he plays! And he's such a sweet guy. Love hearing him talk about "fusing" jazz, blues and rock together!
One of My favorite guitar player ever
Crikey. What an amazing player Frank is. A lifetime’s dedication to the guitar. Thanks Rick.
Thank Rick, his playing made us smile.....and that opening Steely Dan bit, hilarious!!!
Holy crap, Frank Gambale kicks ass!!!!! As does Rick Beato, who for some reason seems to be able to play anything with soul and precision! Rick Beato also happens to be the best interviewer out there when it comes to music-related stuff! \m/
That Gentleman has beautiful hands. So fluid. Liquid in motion and execution. Stellar musician. Better Man.
Frank is a monster player and a great gentleman. I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago and got him to sign my Truth In Shredding cd. He showed me how to sweep and laid some advanced theory on me. Kept my mind swirling for weeks.
his fingers are are not very long & look chunky..not what you normally expect
So now these Frank like licks are going through my mind, after the video has ended. Just beautiful. Thanks Frank and Rick!
We got some great Australian guitarists but I hadn't heard of Frank untill you originally posted about him Rick, been checking out his music over the last few months..hes awesome cheers
saw frank live at the basement in sydney in the ninety's great show...
1:40 - I could spend the next few years working on nothing but trying to capture the effortless, impeccable phrasing of that one lick.
Frank is so the man. Big smiles listening to him solo over the jazz blues, easily hearing all the changes from his lines 😊👍
One of the Kings of guitar 🎸
Ever since the electrification of guitars, some jazz and classical snobs have deliberately put their fingers in their ears even if a composition is played note for note and the intonation is spot on.

It's freaking awesome when you can hear so accurately the Implied chord changes underneath his underneath his solo lines.
Such a legend :)
When he talks about it is so easy. The he goes and does it and blows your mind 😅

Long live both Guitar World & Guitar Player back from the years. Plus this tube.
a great great guitare player ! he loves John Coltrane and rock music ! you can't put him in a box ! when i hear with chick Corea it's a fantastic guitar player ! it's why i love him !! sorry for my english !!
Frank has been one my favorite players since I first saw him in Cick Corea's Electrik Band in the late 80's.
Beautiful interview with a wonderful music ambassador and true gentleman👍🏽
dopo aver ascoltato questi 7 minuti e mezzo non hai più bisogno di altro, grande maestro!
Thank you for doing this one on the blues-. I can't help it; it's my favorite v-. and I'm thrilled!!!
I’ve really enjoyed this. I’ve been at a place lately where I feel like I need something else and Frank is a great inspiration to me. Rick has to be the luckiest guy with the best job in the world. May god bless you!!’

Vital Information rocks 💪
Absolutely, and I fondly recall seeing them with the late great Jeff Andrews.
⚓️ Thanks Rick, Frank. 😎
Frank is an entertaining and eloquent speaker.
Great approach... Play different... Create.... Innovate...
Complete rhythmic freedom within the groove. A true master!
Frank is just pure awesome, one of those guys who always makes me want to play!
Haha! He’s still got the pinball machine! I remember his old video on modes where he played pinball.
What an awesome and talented fellow.
I bought the remastered version of the Modes video a few days ago on Frank’s website. His two Mode books are probably the best explanation of modes ever.
Not very many players I can listen to play solo electric noodling like that except for Frank G and Carl V these guys are unbelievable musicians
ONE OF THE GREATS ❤
Frank's signature guitar is absolutely beautiful
Haaa! Now this is music! Love this. Hope we get to see/hear Frank a lot more. He's amazing and an really nice guy too. This is a great lesson in killer lead lines.
Frank amazes and teaches
What a great guy Frank is!
Love Frank. Such an amazing musician.I heard a great song called "Legends" on his album A Present for the Future the other day. Recommended listening.
Frank's extra chords section sounds amazing! Thought is not the enemy of his flow, but his thought does not interfere. Like, he must be so far ahead of his hands, they finish on auto pilot while he is planning his next section. Mind boggling. If you could break down that solo, how epic!! Ü♥♫
Rick, this is so cool. I am working on the transcription of Frank (my favorite guitarist) playing over the "extra changes." Amazing:)
My first real guitar is a Ibanez Frank Gambale I‘ve bought back in 1991. He playing style just improved over the years.
Love Frank! Thanks Rick.
Frank is an awesome dude. Screw the critics, they know nothing.
Gotta love Frank 👍
Great job Rick and Frank. Frank can play!
Rick is such a great, gracious interviewer. And Frank...let's just say I'd love to hear him and Joe Bona step on to a stage, Bona could do all the EJ he wants Frank would circle him.
The guy is great, love this
Rick, another great interview! Thanks!!!
Frank is just a monster on guitar. Period.
He’s a sublime player. One of the greatest IMO. I wish he’d ration the sweeping stuff though.
Wonderful video Rick! Loved hearing Frank’s take on things.
Frank Gambales style is not dead, it just smells funny :-) A living, but underrated legend.
Love this guy.
not only his amazing, his tone is killer toooooo
i shaved my head back in years a go when Frank visiting my country to give Masterclass, i removed the idea that rocker has to have long hair etc .. he can do anything without his hair, a Monster player!
Two of my favorite musicians. Great stuff

i was waiting for the "Wooo!"
Absolutely fantastic!!
Tremendous. Thank you!
Great interview Rick. Thanks!
I would like to hear Frank's take on country shredding.
The man is a god among mere mortals.
Great interview
Sounding totally fab Frank ... loving this.
Great musician and a cool dude. Nice interview.
Pre 1970 all the jazz albums (Kenny Burrell etc) had bongos on them. Inexplicable. Breaking the bongo sound was important for jazz. Your tone may be unnacceptable now but in the future jazz guys will embrace you.
Frank makes a lot of sense. Many people in the jazz scene are stuck in a rut. I guess it's the same with just about any style of music today.
I have an inkling that Mr. Gambale & Mr. Hendrix, together, would have really set the music world on its ear!
Absolute legend~
Wow.. Frank has Monster Chops. I know years ago he was a Carvin player with a signature guitar I believe.
Holy crap Frank killin those changes
Amazing feel!!!🔥
Thank you
Amazing Frank 🔥🤘🏻
Much respect...
Brilliant!
I could listen to Frank til the end of time.
brilliant amazing!! listen Rick ..."but I am just as happy playing a 3 chord Blues"
