- Indeed you will be astonished to see this American Couple make this movie in 1930 while travelling and coming to Lucknow and Varanasi. Residency and Imambara are wonderful. Observe traditionally dressed locals et al. We found it quite interesting.

How clean, calm and organized we were in those days!
I think we are deteriorating as a society in many ways.
Yes. We were 17 years away from Independence
India was going through a terrible famine!
I didn't find any cleanliness sir. It was horrible then horrible now.

Marvellous to see. My family lived there during this period. Worked on the railways (AI community). My father was an engine driver. I visited 2 yrs ago the beautiful city and the houses of my direct ancestors + churches (Central Methodist + Christchurch) + graveyards. One day to return again and absorb the history.

Jawad Haider::: We visited Varanasi 4 years ago. It is such a marvelous city, one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.
When I was walking on the roads of Varanasi, I was wondering, " I am walking on the same same place where Rama, Laxmana, Sitadevi, walked, The Pancha Pandavas walked, great sages like Agastya, Angirasa, Vasishta walked, Satya Harishchandra walked...... Wow!!!
What a great place!!"

Now living in far away land
This is very nostalgic for people like me
All memories refreshed in just one shot Charbagh Station
The sight of Imambara brought tears My ancestral house used to be near to that.
Varanasi of course such nostalgia will last for a full day
Oh! What a feeling!!!

Who asked you to live in a far away land?
Lucknow is really one of the hidden treasures of India. People are still unaware of the beauty of this place.

A line in the video says that "the ashes of dead are unceremoniously thrown in the water of the Ganges in Benaras". You do not need any ceremony on top of a ceremony. The maker of the video probably did not realise that having ones' ashes immersed in Ganga in Kashi is itself the greatest last ceremony for a Hindu. Very few Hindus can hope its done for them. As per belief, it gives instant moksha.
Indian Angel , and pollute the river. What a salvation.
@@mohammadabdulwasay9746 No no Mohammad, please do not say this. Burnt human ashes do not pollute rivers. Ashes are like soil and sand, they mix and become part of the ecosystem. Human body and wood is is not made up of plastic or dangerous chemicals that it will pollute river water.
Moksha to rapists, murders and looters of country wealth. God can't forgive those who have troubled its creation.

My family are also from uttar pradesh... in meerut. .. they go back generations! (The Anglo-Indian side and possibly thousands from the Indian side!) I'd LOVE to go U.P and walk in the footsteps of my ancestors
Most welcome Smiff. You are always most welcome. It is your own country. Glad that you have this in your mind.
Hi Smiffy, Don't delay. Organise a trip and walk in the footsteps. My brother & I did this for an intense 3 wk trip. It was emotionally mind blowing everyday. ( We had prep from parents, relatives & friends prior to visiting Lucknow and the region, which included the schools in Mussourie.) Good luck and go with an open mind and arms. Don't compare today to what was back then. Absorb the old architecture; buildings, history and place yourself in the shoes of your ancestors. Have fun.
This is the first vlog ever shot.....what a beautiful video though
The British were so great at hiding their faults and so great at showing that India was an orthodox nation.
India was an Orthodox nation, but Britain was too. The year in which Sati was banned in India (1829 if I'm not wrong), 1200 women were burnt as witches in England.
And most of our Hindu people are still carrying that colonized British tendency and fill ashamed of our rich, historic and native culture and heritage in the name of western modernization 🔥❤️🇮🇳❤️🔥
Not hiding but "exploiting" our faults and eventually exploiting our country.
With the current govt. Behaviour and people's unquestionable support, sometimes I feel they were right.
@@hemanth0itsme You are free to take Britain's citizenship if you admire them so much🔥❤️🇮🇳❤️🔥

Lovely video. I wonder who plays the background music in the first part and at the end of the video. It was very clever and artistic at some point to stop the background music and leave only the sounds of the Ganges river, the voices of people, and the ringing of the bells. No need of music there.

Iam from Lucknow and i gald to see this 90 year old video👍👍
A tremendous film to view which was made by the American couple. Looking at the history of the place around that time, were the visitors possibly engaged with Missionary/Church projects. There were many within India at the time. Our direct ancestor Pastor Matthew Stephens was pastor at the Methodist Church(Central I think) and his family were active in the church and vicinity. At the beginning of the film, it briefly showed Charbagh station. My direct ancestors were PWI's, Station Masters, Drivers or fireman around that time for a number of decades. As we visited Lucknow, we were also informed that one of our ancestors was caretaker of ''The Residence'' for a while. I could go on, but don't wish to be boring. As one can see, my connection to the place is large, and look forward to the next interesting video and even better to visit again. I wish everyone good health.
बुरा मत मानना भाई पर अमेरिकन लोग क्यों हाथ धो के हिंदुओं का धर्मपरिवर्तन करने में लगे हुए है? आपके परिवार वाले तो आजादी के पहले से ही लगे हुए हैं।
@Ajey Chahal A lot of people converted because of casteism, low caste Hindus were treated like trash so they converted to other religions which doesn't have the caste system.
@@nabeelmohammedca
It's a secret that pakistan and some muslims still maintain caste system. I have seen one of distant relative wanting to marry his daughter to rajput converts only.
@@goodguy7830 Hangover still hasn't left them, that's a real concern. It's ironic that a country that pretends to be so religious that they are willing to use violence against anyone who questions their faith still maintains caste mentality from their former religion.
@@nabeelmohammedca not only for caste system...if this is the only coz...then there would be huge number of Buddhists, Jains...its money and force...which convert into chrustus and mullas...local regional books had enough evidences about this

Even today, the design of the platform is exactly the same!!
From this video I guess, it's the meter gauge or also called choti line railway station of Lucknow!
As there two railway stations in Lucknow, one is meter gauge and the other broad gauge one..
The meter gauge one or choti line railway station was the first railway station of Lucknow to be built!
Zero plastic environment i kept looking for the plastic during the whole video
same here bro..
Plastic didn't reach india till 1950s
Normal polythenes are introduced after 1960 worldwide , in India plastic industries boosted after 2000 , we have seen our early childhood carrying clothes bags, thailas and Kulhadd , organic pattals during wedding.
Was stock Indian music available at that time also for videos
