My question is at what age do you stop holding people to standards? 40? 50? 60? 70? As a masters athlete that seems insulting to say, “you’re old, do whatever you want. Nick Bare is probably a good example. Pops into a Hyrox championship after a few months of prep, and comes 8th. But he knows he’s nowhere near the fitness level to compete in the CrossFit Qualifiiers.
I did Hyrox Melbourne this past weekend. I listened to a guy tell his mate to not go chest to ground on his burpees and hope no one sees. Made me angry. But then I got a 6min penalty for only doing half the sled push because the judge told me to go after two lengths. Can we add 10 BMU post wall balls to finish the race?
I don't understand how some people miss the word 'competition' when talking about movement standards. It wasn't a celebration of fitness; it was a fitness competition. Someone will win, and hopefully, it isn't someone who isn't moving correctly to the standard.
Fitness is task-specific and environment-dependent, but to compare fitness between Hyrox or Deka athletes vs. CrossFit athletes, I'll agree more with Hiller here. I am a casual amateur "hybrid athlete" running some marathons and "middle distance" endurance running races. I have conventionally deadlifted 2.5xBW, 2xBW backsquat, over 1.5xBW bench press, etc. I can walk into a Hyrox or Deka event and finish without any problems, but I would have to specifically train to peform relatively well (of course); however, I seriously doubt I could finish a number of events at the CF Games because I can't do a bunch of ring muscle ups into a handstand walk, etc. I recognize that these world-level CF Open or Games athlete is more fit than I am undoubtedly. Hunter needs to admit this may be true for him too.
Something that intrigued me about the debate between the two is Nick Bare said he only did one CrossFit workout because he wasn’t good at the Olympic lifts and idk I guess he didn’t want to learn. Then he found hyrox and dove in. That speaks for a lot of folks. CrossFit requires you to safely learn difficult skills. And then dominate those skills. Hyrox doesn’t. Speaks for itself.
First point. Yes crossfitters are just more capable. Period nobody can argue that hence why crossfit has a high skill barrier and hyrox doesnt. Arguing this fact is dumb.
But where does the term ‘fitness’ draw the line? Just because someone can’t lift 225 over their head means they aren’t as fit as someone who can? But that person that can’t do 225, can run faster and longer than the person who can lift 225. Where is the line drawn and where does endurance and speed come into play? Yes, CrossFit is mostly strength and explosiveness, while Hyrox is more of an endurance race, I don’t think either should be categorized as the ‘fittest’. Jeff Adler, who was the ‘fittest’ in 2023, and my opinion, the best crossfitter right now, got destroyed on a swim. If he runs through an obstacle course, he’ll probably struggle. There are lots of things that are tested in CrossFit and I get why they quote the term, fittest on earth, but I think tests of fitness shouldn’t be one more than the other. Not saying I’m a programmer or anything, but an event that is testing fittest, should include all movements, and not negate others because the athletes lack it. One day all strength and Olympic lifts. Next day speed and explosiveness. Next day endurance. Next day swim. Various obstacle courses. Test them all and see who the fittest is then. CrossFit has turned into a circus with weights these past few years. Hyrox is mainly running. Just throwing it out there, some of the fittest guys I’ve seen have always been tactical athletes.
….LOL…..tell me how you think your HYROX crowd is going to do in an open water swim? Hell - even a lap swim? How do elite / AG competitive HYROX folks fare in CrossFit comps? How do elite Crossfitters / AG competitive fare in HYROX events? Your answer is already there…..because nobody that folks on training “HYROX” is going to sniff completing most Wods much less being a factor in a competition with standards. CF folks show up every weekend at HYROX events and place well. This isn’t that difficult
If you think crossfit is just explosiveness, you have no idea what you're talking about. Workouts that are less than 5 minutes I'll give you the explosive category. Anything more than that isn't. How many CF events last year were less than 5 minutes? How about events that were over 15 minutes? What was the longest event? Crossfit tests across all the different domains. Thats why they get to say fittest on earth
Personally I’m a fan of both. It just seems to be the difference between gymnastics and running. Hyrox just has a much lower barrier of entry which will in time, very likely appeal to a much broader audience. The fact that it’s even close to CrossFit numbers only a few years after its inception, should be easily indicative of the likelihood of its popularity over time.
We have two guys that competed in the Stockholm Hyrox race a couple of weeks ago! Both move incredibly well and come from a pretty decent background of elite crossfit! They got a national record with their time! I want to see any decent hyrox athlete come down and get a national record in any open workout! Crossit moves into all sports! Specifically non specific! Thats why it wins!
Hyrox is really easy to come over to from Crossfit. I kind of throw it into the obstacle racing stuff because it's so specific and easy to train for. I dont see it getting that big personally and is way too oriented towards runners. I did it in Orlando first year (and only) I believe it came here and it had very low turnout. We got 2nd OA and 1st age group (>40). The difference in sled pushes/drag at that time was so wide compared to other cities that you couldnt compare apples to apples.
Ok so I'd be against shaming the athlete not meeting the movement (some of these people have been encouraged to show up having just started). However the judges should absolutely be shamed.
Sorry to say this, but the 1st time I heard about Hyrox was a YT doc on it. I liked the video, but Hunter came out as the bigest poser I've ever seen.... Sure, the guy's good at what he's doing, but I can't stand him.
Honestly I have done Hyrox four times and podiumed all the time and won twice in my age group but it’s a running event. I’m pretty sure if the running was cut by half and the work in between the runs would increase by double, it would be different. 7:22
Hyrox = one crossfit workout, crossfit = unlimited number of crossfit workouts. Plus the ONLY reason Hunter was even in the crossfit games was he was gifted a spot. Doing a Hyrox event is an active rest day for Tia and James.
Did I just get through a 17min Andrew Hiller video and actually agree with pretty much everything he said? Yup 🤣 and I happened to race at the Melbourne Hyrox event. Tia looked like she was cruising, would love to see what she could do in the Women’s Pro Singles event 💪🏻 Joanna Wietrzyk is an Aussie who’ll potentially be the next Hyrox Women’s World Champ, but she would get absolutely crushed at the CF Games, and tbh likely wouldn’t even qualify for the Semi Finals
Okay one more thing. The problem is not an older lady not hitting squat depth. It’s that someone with much better mobility should know half squats are counting for this race so they can go MUCH FASTER. If you can’t physically meet the standard you can’t complete the race. Period. Find a different event where you can. Or work on mobility for a few years and try again. Why is he an asshole for wanting people to do what the competition says they’re supposed to do???? Hiller is calling for competitions to be even playing fields, which the sport of fitness needs to do to be taken seriously in any capacity. Demanding participation be celebrated and not critiqued…. That’s what the gym is for. There’s no place for that in competition.
Hunters biggest strength is also his biggest weakness, whatever he's involved with, he's in, 24/7 150% regardless of if he's right or wrong. He was saying the same things about professional Spartan racing back in the mid 2010s and when is the last time you even heard about them?
Was the 65 year old lady shown before the race what she was supposed to do? If not what’s the point of a judge other than to make sure the standards briefed are met?
I agree that Crossfiters are way more rounded athletes and Hyrox athlete's simply wouldn't be able to perform alot of the movements in Crossfit. However, comparing someone like Jeff Adler or even Tia Claire Toomey double score isnt a fair representation of how Crossfit athlete's would perform in Hyrox given the vast amount of PEDs they take. I would also put very good money on the percentage of top level crossfit athletes taking PEDs being astronomically higher than the percentage of Hyrox Atheltes taking PEDs. I think an natural Crossfitt athlete wouldnt get as nearly impressive score and its a shame you didnt touch on that.
Hyrox is always the same, so it might get boring real quick tbh... Crossfitters aren't fitter but they just ad gymnastic skills and strength to their game, so much more allround. And this dude is just clearly very jealous of the top crosfitters...
Either Hyrox is a legitimate competition and the standard is the standard so it needs to be held. Or Hyrox is a fun run where standards don't matter that much and Hunter's titles mean nothing. Pick one. Personally I think Hunter is a really good athlete in that space and his titles in Hyrox and OCR should be taken seriously, so Hyrox needs to actually enforce their own rules.
I think you both are on different t pages. From a statistical standpoint point, hyrox is easier to compare across the board since the even is essentially always the same. CrossFit does t have that since the workouts vary from year to year in the open and other events. Additionally, the number of participants changes year to year and on average cross fitters are becoming more fit. So comparing my placing from year to year depends on my abilities, but also the relative fitness of everyone else. But either way I’m not saying hyrox is better. Definitely more boring as said above.
Cross fit is very specialist and required strength skill and great deal of fitness. Cross fit Atheles are better strength athletes. I think Hyrox is lesser version of Hryrox, but has more a requirement on CV running so there CV fitness is better than cross fit. Runners have better CV fitness than both. However all three a different so you can’t compare them by who is fitter doesn’t make sense, Hrox is easier than cross fit and more accessible. I think Hrox should tighten up on depth on wall balls judges need to be more strict. This coming from someone is does Hrox
Second point. When it comes to number of sign ups per comp cant really compare the two as crossfitters take a vacation for a hyrox race 😂😂😂 sorry not sorry
Bro HYROX and DEKA doesn’t have that many participants because it’s the same 20,000 people doing it 20x in HYROX and 3000 people doing it 100x in DEKA.
Crossfit is a sport with close to 100 movements (+ their variations) and you’re expected to perform all of these. Combined with the unknown side of Crossfit doesn’t lend itself to growth at this late stage. Overwhelming to the layman. You might not like the template but the hyrox movements are understandable, attainable, trainable to the general population. Like how many long time members still can’t do gymnastics and double unders? People want to compete, look at the turn outs from their events. Yes a cornerstone of CrossFit to prepare for the unknown but how are you going to get new people to comprehend you being the fittest. What does a result of a chipper of 10 movements mean to anyone outside of an event? You guys are at left and right tails of competitive fitness nitpicking each other. Just accept you both are a niche subset of athletics and are on the same team. Disclaimer- I don’t do either of these sports so Im not a dog in this fight.

Comes in 8th but nowhere near the top elite 15 times .but that also goes to show you that Hyrox is growing doubling every year and CrossFit is dying
Ironically, Hunter was dethroned as the Murph record holder by a vegan.
How were the push ups
Hunter is a gigachad though. He is right about vegans being deluded.
People don’t remember when Tyreek Hill ran a 100m against Olympian 100m athletes. Tyreek got mad respect. It’s the same thing.
Yes and that’s why hyrox is growing at a fast rate and CrossFit is dying
SPOT ON🙌🏽🙌🏽👌🏽👌🏽AMAZING HILLER!!
First point. Yes crossfitters are just more capable. Period nobody can argue that hence why crossfit has a high skill barrier and hyrox doesnt. Arguing this fact is dumb.
A power to weight variation would be good , and with things like magnetic resistance in sleds and so on this would be easy to do
But where does the term ‘fitness’ draw the line?
Read the CrossFit level 1 manual
Andrew out here always stating FACTS. No shade just facts. 👏 thank you for your service
Who where they and what were their times? I want to see if this is Bs or not 😂
Thanks God, we have Hiller 🦇
Hyrox is really easy to come over to from Crossfit. I kind of throw it into the obstacle racing stuff because it's so specific and easy to train for. I dont see it getting that big personally and is way too oriented towards runners.
I did it in Orlando first year (and only) I believe it came here and it had very low turnout. We got 2nd OA and 1st age group (>40). The difference in sled pushes/drag at that time was so wide compared to other cities that you couldnt compare apples to apples.
You don’t see it getting big yet it has been doubling every year ok lol 😂
CrossFit is dying
At least Hyrox can measure distance. If they were CrossFit, they'd measure 1000 yards and say it was 1000 meters. And then triple down on it.
If you have tell people what your value is, it's not of value.
In relation to..?
Well at least we know Hyrox judges can also judge CrossFit
Hunter is a total stud, also a phenomenal athlete. He sits atop the throne in a sport full runners that cannot/will not squat to depth.
Fake internet beef for clicks is your content level. Glad you’re staying there.
Thanks Hiller, u r the best😂
He certainly doesn’t need any LMNT with all that salt
Hyrox is a singular event that could be programmed at the games. And then they would do 11 more events.
siri what percentage of the world can handstand walk? ...."less than 1%"
Hiller: "thats a basic skill"
Hahahahah basic in gymnastics. I learned it within my first year
Note* I did gymnastics at 7
By the goals of CrossFit which is to make functional athletes handstand walks shouldn’t be apart of CrossFit.
CrossFit is dying
Did I just get through a 17min Andrew Hiller video and actually agree with pretty much everything he said? Yup 🤣 and I happened to race at the Melbourne Hyrox event. Tia looked like she was cruising, would love to see what she could do in the Women’s Pro Singles event 💪🏻
Joanna Wietrzyk is an Aussie who’ll potentially be the next Hyrox Women’s World Champ, but she would get absolutely crushed at the CF Games, and tbh likely wouldn’t even qualify for the Semi Finals
Is there an award for the Strangest Athlete in Hyrox 2024 Award? I nominate Hunter ✅
Funny you added the Magida clip, since they don't like each other and hunter flipped him off during world championships
Omg this is great. Had no idea
@hillerfit ruclips.net/video/YvXgVW6wy84/видео.htmlsi=0IHH47o8xp1p6JIg (20:15 mark)
Hunters biggest strength is also his biggest weakness, whatever he's involved with, he's in, 24/7 150% regardless of if he's right or wrong. He was saying the same things about professional Spartan racing back in the mid 2010s and when is the last time you even heard about them?
Where can I find this
@@hillerfit It's been a bit but the best place would likely be his Facebook account.
Was the 65 year old lady shown before the race what she was supposed to do? If not what’s the point of a judge other than to make sure the standards briefed are met?
Crossfit open is what 20-30 bucks? Isn't a HR comp 140 dollars?
Honestly the guy looks like. Twatwaffle. 😂😂
Talk about butthurt
Hyrox is always the same, so it might get boring real quick tbh... Crossfitters aren't fitter but they just ad gymnastic skills and strength to their game, so much more allround. And this dude is just clearly very jealous of the top crosfitters...
Cunter Mcintyer
😂😂
Either Hyrox is a legitimate competition and the standard is the standard so it needs to be held. Or Hyrox is a fun run where standards don't matter that much and Hunter's titles mean nothing. Pick one.
Personally I think Hunter is a really good athlete in that space and his titles in Hyrox and OCR should be taken seriously, so Hyrox needs to actually enforce their own rules.
Squat depth does my head in I have chronic arthritis of the right knee and I had to work super hard to get depth but I did and m old as feck (54)
I love the BTWB data ever since I got on there 2+ years ago
You got him!
Hunter, "Duh, duh, duh..."
If people are competing for a podium finish regardless of age they need to move according to standards end of story
This channel is like kondergarden 😂
I’m not sure what that is
Hunter is a real one doe, I respect him he puts in the work and doesn't just talk. Different level of respect
Nah, he's a tool, always has been.
16:05 he thinks eating goat, equates to a lesser person or a rarity. Goat is the number one consumed meat in the world.
Have you seen Hunter’s attempt at setting a world record Murph time? I seem to remember there were some very interesting standards in that one
it's just terrible...the push ups are so cringy
Hunter is a fun guy. Hiller is great. It’s the internet folks. Peace and love
Hyrox is just a running event. Kinda funny seeing the runners get all worked up. Track has been a thing forever
Shrek - Huh????
Perfect
