Since simplifying my wardrobe and inheriting, my mother in laws wardrobe (I lovingly refer to her pieces as the Carol Cooper Collection) that is classic, stylish, and the same fit; I feel delighted to dress each day. Specifically, an inherited jade bracelet, and denim shirt are the most likely the security pieces that ground me much like Christina’s mom’s jeans or Alyssa’s sweater 😍...most of my items have a sentimental or cozy element- and that has definitely become a part of my own thoughtful, functional, and comfortable style. Love you ladies ❤❤❤

This was great thank you! Decluttering has always been a challenge for me. It's definitely a skill to be learned. What I'm doing lately has been working. If I find myself ignoring an item in my closet and not reaching for it, I force myself to try it on and wear it at home. I try to pay attention to what it is about the garment that I don't like. Sometimes I can pull it off right away and say oh the waistband was too wide or the fabric uncomfortable. Sometimes I realize hey I do really like this and I just need to style it more. Other times I feel it's something more subconscious that I'm not aware of. Like maybe I just don't feel like me in this color or in the silhouette. Most of the time I end up decluttering the item, because I always just choose something else first. There's an element of self trust that has developed, knowing that if I'm ignoring a piece there's a reason, and my gut knows why.

Signe: I love what you said about the benefits of changing your environment (from Atomic Habits). My skin has never looked better and it’s mainly due to reorganizing my bathroom vanity. I used to buy beauty products, use them sporadically, then forget about them as they got pushed to the back of a drawer or cabinet and then I’d buy more products. I never had a consistent routine. Now I have three baskets in my under sink cabinet: one basket holds all my morning face and body cleansers, treatments and protection; the second basket holds the items for my evening beauty routine; and the third holds things I use weekly or monthly such as hair and face masks and manicure items. I moved all the backup items (extra shampoo, etc, ) to another location so they don’t get in the way and distract me.

Christina what you are describing as minimalistish is in my mind totally minimalism. Minimalism is to get rid of the clutter, the things you don’t need, want or use at all! I think I am a minimalist. I don’t have things that I don’t need, love or have time to take care of and time in my schedule for things I love to do and people I love. Things that are in the way of making my life exactly what I want it to be they have to go! To have a hobby or collection of some sort is not forbidden, doesn’t mean you are not a minimalist! I have followed You for some time and I surely think you are a minimalist! You love fashion, cloths and especially jeans. To invest time and energi into what you love is minimalism. When you have soo much stuff that you have to take care of that you don’t have the time to do what you love, you need to declutter what’s in the way. That can be in your mind, in your calender or kitchen. No one has the right to tell anyone else what rules to live by, especially rules for how to be a minimalist. They don’t exist!

I do exactly what Christina said, I watch a fashion video (too many) for inspiration, and I will literally pause, go to my closet and shop it, and find a piece similar (or better) and it motivates me to give it a new life (something I learned from Alyssa). I'm not gonna lie, I still have the desire to shop new things, it's real. The good thing is, I have been purchasing classics for EVER and I have many things that are cycling back into fashion. That's the beauty of buying quality. I also do the same as what Signe mentioned in a previous podcast - I store things (from past seasons) and then whip them out when they become relevant again. I'm rambling, but girls you are speaking my language, love the conversation and as veteran stylists and experts, your words are so meaningful to me, and I hope others listen and love the real life messages!

Ah this podcast is SO good! Thank you ladies for underscoring that clothes and getting dressed, taking time for ones self to present your best self so we feel good about ourselves is important. It's not frivolous or pointless there is a whole psychology behind it. The way you ladies talk about how important it is for you is so comforting and nice to hear. Oh and the Barbie movie is SO good! 💖

As a new mom, I prioritize my style, but also my daughter’s “style”. So I try to find matching shirts and colors so it’s fun. But also, I imagine her watching me and knowing that’s something she can do too

Signe I bought an identical pair of boots (no brand) because of yours 😂 and You were so right. I’ve been to using them for 3 years so far. Another thing I learned from you is to take care of my belongings. Peeling, hidratating leather , making some alterations like my Levi’s . All of you 3 ladies made huge impact in my slow fashion path so far ❤

Not sure if this is the correct venue to share my desire to educate our youth about slow living.
I don't even feel like I'm good at slow fashion yet, but I've just moved to a new place and feel like I should be sharing our mission.
I feel strongly that we should be educating our youth. Surely we have teachers in your audience. I would love to brainstorm a platform together to inspire our youth to consume consciously.

Taking things too far when it comes to minimalism is something I can remember experiencing.... It was very debilitating and exhausting to uphold that much perfectionism onto myself! Not only that, but I realize that as a lifestyle- as opposed to adopting the personality or aesthetic- minimalism can pertain to SO much more than just your physical space. I know that this podcast is primarily a space to discuss slow fashion and such, but when looking at just minimalism alone, you're basically reprogramming/building a different narrative of how you want to live your life. It's taken me quite a few to get to where I am now with not just how I define my style, but with also the kind of choices and mindsets I want to uphold and maintain. Thank you for this episode, and I'd love to see a part 2 of this in the future! 😊

This episode gets me thinking about the unreasonable amount of pressure I put on myself around finally making the decision to recycle, downcycle, or do away with my clothes when they’re totally done for. I remember Alyssa saying that her top priority is longevity of clothing. Much more practical…. There are all kinds of things that I could usefully put my priorities on beyond guilting myself that something is done and needs to be replaced. Keeping things in perspective is hard!

I love pieces that remind us of loved ones or of fantastic experiences we had. One thing I will never let go is a leather purse that my dad made for my mom (decades ago) that has withstood the test of time and brings that casual/boho/romantic element to an outfit.

I'm Pretty close to being a hoarder. The thing is, most of my clothes have sentimental value, and to make it even harder, I need them all to give my creativity all the free space it needs. Of course, I declutter, but those items I'm fed up with, no longer fit my needs, or are really in bad shape and don't feel useful. I have way too much, but I love it. Secondhand is one of the reasons I managed to add so many items. Although I mostly gave up on fast fashion, I found a much better source of elements for my need to create, combine, and uplevel the pieces. I also love sewing. So, in sum, in my opinion, you don't need to declutter to shop your closet. You just need to buy less.

Love love love this podcast. Question for you guys. If you have an a noxious amount of clothes, I mean 100s of tops for example , how do you start decluttering? Obviously I love everything I bought and that is why I bought it! Wondering the best way to start is. Even if it is little steps. Thank you!!!

It’s funny but I refuse to watch hauls, or my favourite things from Amazon, I won’t even order from Amazon . I love vintage and second hand shopping .and haul channels turn me off.
