"Ignore all my ongoing projects and start a new one" is every artist's motto if we're being honest here
Pfft, I don't do that...
_ignore the fact i'm reading comments when i should be making a game right now_
But we're not being honest are we
This applies to all forms of art really
My everyday struggle. Sixty projects on hold. I just complete one of these... Oh, hey! New idea! New project.
@@Kapin05 Literally have Ableton open while watching this and seeing your comment made me remember
Actually the keys are numbered because it's a type of notation called the numbered musical notation, which is used to score music for that instrument. I think Japan started using that scoring system in the Meiji era, and it's still used today for traditional instruments. Chinese traditional instruments also use this kind of musical notation. It's called 簡譜 (jian pu) in Chinese. Just thought it'd be interesting to share!

It's like a sitar and a harpsichord got frisky while a hurdy gurdy watched from the corner.

@@Megalomaniakaal don't
Its a relative of the hurdy gurdy, and also an Indian descendant the Bubul Tarang.
@@backbeatmusicacademy8078 actually, the taishokoto was the basis for the first Indonesian "translations" of the instrument which became the bulbul tarang. Both instruments have much in common with the European hummel or hommel. Thanks to immigrants from Northern Europe in the 19th century, that instrument evolved into the Appalachian dulcimer in the US. All instruments like these belong to the bigger family of plank cithers and can be very diverse concerning the number of strings and the shape of the body.
@@arno-luyendijk4798 Sweet! I didn't know that - or the connection to the Appalachian dulcimer. Happen to know the Bahasa Indo name for it?

I have worked in the music industry for 35 years.( music producer / composer / performing artist.)

I've never seen that before what a talent you have.
last year I sold both my studios.
What a new world has emerged today.

Huang: "Apparently this is called a Taishokoto, a stringed instrument from Japan"
Also Huang: *Proceeds to play fluently as if he spent his whole life learning it*
It would be hard not to make that thing sound good
when you're a seasoned veteran like huang, certain things like this are childs play.
I made the same observation... I was watching like, "SERIOUSLY!?"
It’s basically a keyboard you strum, from the looks. It even has black and white notes laid out like a piano, even if they are spaced a bit weird ‘cause of strings.
Any multi instrumentalist can figure out a new instrument a tad faster than a non-multi instrumentalist, and that could mean just within an hour. I've seen this as a matter of fact. It's simply because the brain is so used to shifting mediums.

Am i the only one who craves a released song of that melody? Amazing Skill Andrew!
veit2k me as well wants this thing. The haunting melody has me wanting more of this track!!!
Pretty please @Andrew Huang
always fascinating seeing these comments on some noodling in a random scale
makes me wonder how many songs us musicians could release if we didnt get so self conscious
this is legit the first time I had to pause a video to check out and actually buy the plugin. this is literally a way of sample browsing I've envisioned a couple of times - but WAY BETTER. it's creepy. but awesome. thanks XLN!
Am I the only one who high fives him back in his intros? Love your work man!
Ladi Cius I'm with you. Let's high fives. *highfives
I do this too. How can you not?
Ladi Cius been high fiving back for over a year. I felt alone til I saw this
I felt the need to high five him back as well.
Feels good I'm not the only one face palming my poor little phone/laptop.
I was so impressed by this instrument that I just picked one up off of EBay from Japan. I negotiated the price down to $175 from the $310 they were asking. Can’t wait to play it. 🤩

Excited to see you putting XO to work Andrew, the track sounds great! :)

I agree. Prty please ANDREW HUANG
It sounded like the remix of an atmospheric score of a 70´s movie! I would love to hear an instrumental version of this for a walk headphones on in the city!
One of the best vids so far. I love the instrument and that beautiful bass guitar. That program was superb looking in its simplistic organization. Great work.
"Seriously, check out XO"
as an elliott smith fan i second this
as an EDEN fan i third this

2:17 i thought he was about to make the hardest trap beat of 2019
Pablo Guerrero I could hear asap Ferg on that
I've never made trap before, but I'd be happy to sample it and turn it into a trap beat if you want lol. I did something similar for someone in the comments in his Volca Modular video, just not a whole song
I thought so at 4:31
It was like getting abj but not coming
I was thinking he was creating the theme music for a reboot of "Unsolved Mysteries" or "The Twilight Zone"
"Stopping" a string is also used to refer to pushing down on a string
you should keep the riff at 1:10 around in case you need to score a medieval japanese fight scene 👀
sounds like flamenco music
It fits perfectly on a psytrance song. It has a beautiful japanese/flamenco/Indian sound
I thought it was Witcher for a moment
@@zezimine2 When in novigrad in hierarch square xD
I have always enjoyed your videos, but since I started trying to make my own, I am even more appreciative of your work. Super fun to watch and INSANE amounts of effort and time has to be put into these. Thanks for the inspiration 👍
By the way Andrew, you were asking about it "pinching " the string and playing a note. in guitar terms, these are called "hammer ons"
@@dactamgaming385 I don't think that's what he was talking about. He was saying that the higher notes would take precedence because they are earlier on the neck and so would "pinch" the string and block the lower notes. Pretty sure he knows what a hammer on is lol.
This man can literally play every instrument he touches
One of the first times I’ve actually started skipping the advertisement segment and then stopped myself and backed it up to watch the whole ad segment because it’s actually something really awesome.
Damn Rob Scallon doesn't even have one of these yet!😆
Rob played one in a video in the crazy instrument store
I think he played a Acoustic Indian Type of it but you know...
nope the Shahi Baaja (which I totally didn't looked up on Robs Channel)
The Shahi Baaja though
@@philipm4585 Yeah, you're right, it's called the Shahi Baaja. But it's not acoustic.
Man, I totally want a whole album in this vibe. Love it 💗
Blew my mind! I love the sound out of that electric harp and the song you whipped up!
Really like the way you integrated the Taishogoto into that track, really dope dude.
Okay i got to try out that xo plugin, i have grown to hate browsing drum samples from my push or splice so this looks like a new fun way.
Get the free 10-day trial! Can't wait to see what you create with it!
splice is great though?
agree that it looks interesting
@@ValirAmaril I tried splice for 3 months and didn’t like it at all. The concept is amazing, but the execution terrible. So many low quality samples and they don’t restrict the use of tags which makes sounds near impossible to find (there are claps tagged as 808, this happens for pretty much every sample). And good luck finding good samples that aren’t hip hop
I love the way that the harp sounds! Thanks for being a constant source of inspiration Andrew!
great instruments dude, they make beautiful sounds. you got it all. creating songs is so much fun. the more the instruments the better, you can do amazing stuff. sounds haunting cool as dry ice, you are a great songwriter and I don't say this lightly you take names and kick dragon.
Great video Andrew, that harp melody sounded so cool.
I think this is the coolest instrument I've never heard of that you've featured on your channel, and also the coolest sponsor you've featured on your channel. XO looks awesome, I might actually have to pick that up.
That's a nice sponsoring, I love XLN Audio and just discovered XO because of you, what a great plugin.
Great content man, seriously. You should be proud of what you have achieved right now.
That first analog drive and reverb sound was awesome. It was like hearing the synth from Bladerunner.
sounds like an opening for a horror/thriller-esque anime. i dig it.
2:10
God i can feel some dark sythwave stuff happening here
I got the same vibe. I just bought one on E-bay.
Ikr?! I'll have to run the tashikoto set on my synth
Mass Effect 2 vibes coming in hard
I can tell you now that it needs to be paired with the right pedals or software, but it does a good job, especially if you want to find an instrument that looks cool and is easy enough that any kind can learn the basics in minutes.
Sort of reminds me of this ruclips.net/video/PRmksUshjPk/видео.html
So awesome, Andrew! Thanks for sharing.
Wow! I have one of those but didnt know what it was called! So glad I found this!
Loved every sec of this video.
And that XLN plug-in is absolutely genius!
That first riff you were playing around 1:10 reminded me of Orchid's Epilogue of a Car Crash.
Reminded me of State of decay 2
Reminded me of System of a Down lol
@@zacharykaigray Yeah, I was going back and forth on Epilogue of a Car Crash and Chop Suey.
Damn, I'm sold on it. Sounds like most of the leads I did on my album the coma calling - "as the trees slept" with an autoharp. So cool Drew, thanks for sharing.
Most excellent instrument. Great demo. Love the song that came of that. You have a great voice bro!
Wow... it sounds like as if it was a background music for Tokyo, Japan drift racers 😁😁😁
This is my favorite song you’ve done, spooky, but chill at the same time, good stuff!

It’s Ghost of Tsushi- oh Nevermind
It's so nice track dude! That's beautiful! Cool vibe!
I’d like to drive around in a virtual car over a landscape made from the XO AI software, looking around for the right sound. Kind of like a joy ride.
Andrew man !!! You are the most creative music RUclipsr i've ever seen .. your every video is so next level creative !!! Man that track is fire 🔥 !!!
2:09 This sound like the theme to like...a mystery show. Like if they made a new Poirot on BBC this would be playing under the opening credits. Seriously, 5:32, even with the vocals I'm having some serious Cyber-Agatha-Christie vibes
Cyber Agatha Christie - Holy shit, I could really go for that
"Cyber Agatha Christie" is the genre I never knew I needed.
*opens up Final Draft* BRB, it's screenplay time.
I gotta say andrew, i love your channel and your insight into the music world, but your music taste and mine could not be further apart... yet, i still watch your videos so you must be doing something very right! Keep it up mate!
_Andrew, I think you just helped me to discover my new favorite instrument!_
andrew is the reason i got experimental with music
You are so insanely talented and probably the smartest tech and gear guy around, anywhere. Thanks, for the great content.
It sent chills up my spine. Really great stuff.
This was literaly one of the best tracks I have ever heard!!
sporatically slide your cursor around in XO to basically sound like an IDM fill apparently
Loved this video! Thanks, Andrew!
05:31 For those who've watched this video 100 times, here's where the song begins.
You are honestly so talented
I aspire to be like you in the future
I love XLN Audio, probably my favorite music software company. I mean... they DID make Addictive Drummer after all, my favorite VST plugin of all time.
SO AWESOME!!! I love this instrument and how you put your video together. I picked one up off e-bay. Thank you so much. The track you came up with is great by the away. I'm gonna check out more of your music. Best wishes.
Dam well done Andrew.. Dope ass instruments that. Great video man
When you were strumming that thing it sounded like something Arabian.
But when you started adding a drum sequence, that first one (Blip Doom) made it sound like something out of Kitaro, or even Star Inc.s Inner Spirits.
Thank you for introducing me to "Dear Loser,[Chris]~~~~~~!!!!!"
The word for that is "stop" the string. That instrument sounds so familiar. It must have been used for film scoring in the past. Very rich sound.
Sounds veeeeeeery much like Infected Mushroom to me, nice!
You should look into the Indian Banjo (Bulbul Tarang) , it is very similar!
A huge like from me buddy. How in the hell do you make it look so easy and make it sound so good?
Getting a major Zhu vibe from this one.. amazing job as always!
i get here because the harp but i end up finding that XLN drum library AI kind of app, and it was something that i was searching for a long time
A little bit late on this, but is there a full version of this track, and if so, does it have a title?
I really enjoy the song you made out of this
I just want to say your voice is amazing and beautiful and you should be proud of it!!!
I must have the full length version of that song at the end. IT MUST BE DONE!!
1:37 Andrew meets the clavichord
I want an all taishokoto album-pls make it happen, Andrew!!
I honestly freaking love this, so hypnotic!
i'm so glad i found you, love your videos and envy your talent!
I'm going to buy XO and the RC-20 plugin after watching this, so I guess the sponsor worked :)
"Fret" is the correct word for this. The clavichord uses the same word, where some clavichords have multiple notes sharing the same string, the note is "fretted" by the blade hitting in different spots
Awesome as always!
christ on a bike that sounds cool!!(when u 1st played it thru sum ambient fx) thanx for sharing these sounds..i totally wanna get one now!..oh, and
p.s...ive been checking out some of your videos for some time and i must say you have some very unique/original musical skills. honestly. Im a musician myself..and just thought id mention that i am genuinely impressed. Even when you first encounter some crazy new sounds with trippy instruments/tools or effects that you just casually attempt to tinker around randomly...you still seem to manifest SOME sort of musical magick lol. I too seem to have this "2nd nature" type of touch when i approach anything musical..and ofcourse i am very grateful to be blessed with the "ear" for sounds as some call it and definitely try to put this gift to good use any chance i get, with what little instruments & equipment i have, but i wish i could run into more people with the same musicality.. (is that a word lol, if not it should be) cuz my favorite thing creation-thru-collaborating or basically "jamming" i swear🌠 i wish i could just run into 2 or three people like this..that were seriously down to really experiment&make music...like when you added the rythm to it...boom! that instantly became a new sound lol it seriously sounded like some new original spin on some sorta EDM style i have yet to hear anywhere else at all. lol i seriously hear a lot more layers in my head
This XO plugin looks fire, I really wanna test it out !
1:38 I thought that he would play the star wars melody
ZOMG!!! Dude...publish this song and I would gladly pay for a copy. That was some slick kicks, my man ✅⭐️👍🇺🇸
You make that look easy! Thx for the video
XO is the coolest thing I've ever seen you plug
K, that was a dope track. But also, XO looks brilliant!
Though it vvas great vv/the effects & the song you created vvas fantastic I really liked its clean sound & taping the drone string reminded me of a hurdy gurdy. Great video & TY for featuring an instrument the majority of the audience ( including me ) had never heard or heard of .
Now I have to get one. I was looking at it on Google and saw your video and was like 😮oohhh snap! Love it!
