I'm British, I appreciate this song, yes it's upbeat to the original, filmed in Brighton a city I know very well. Yeah, Ren is a working class Bard.

@@MAWGReacts When this first came out, I re-watched the original. The atmosphere of the Retake is realistic but hopeful. While I liked the original at the time, it seems very self absorbed, compared to Ren's version. Ren mentioned that he had about 8 friends taking part in the video. The rest of the people are just bystanders.
I've seen a few Americans relating the 'Junkie in a cubicle' lyric to an office cubicle and a 9-5 job. I've never heard of an office like that here in the UK. He's referring to a toilet cubicle or what you would call a bathroom stall.
The city he's in is Brighton, a seaside resort town on the South coast of England.
You Brit’s and your crazy slang terms! Yeah that one was always going to be lost in translation, we refer to that as a stall… a bathroom stall… but I can see that cubicle does make sense in that context!
yes that was my immediate take. we don't really refer to them that way much even in open plan offices (though some times) but i assumed he's in a toilet getting high, dirty spoon, dead.
As a Brightonian, born and bred. It goes without saying I'm immensely proud of the talent this city produces...Ren may well be the best yet!

It’s funny, I heard that lyric, processed it, and then filed it away and forgot about it…..thankfully that mistake didn’t change up the vibe of the song too much… definitely got away with one there!
And yeah I’m sure smokes are similarly priced around here, it’s just been awhile for me so that price tag was shocking.

No, he’s not starting his day, he hasn’t yet ended his night out. He’s walking the streets after a night out, while the shops are opening and working people are staring their days, yet he’s only going home to go to bed. It’s that in between when those two worlds collide, it’s something I loved experiencing growing up in NYC. I relate to this song even though I’m from across the pond in Manhattan, New York City. I love that rough and tumble side of my city as much as he loves his. It’s informed who I am in the depths of my soul ♥️💪

Working class causalities out on the streets sleep rough = the homeless guy
out on the lash = a night of drinking
cubicle - could mean a toilet (stall in American)
bookies = a betting shop
factor 10 = the strenght of sun block (sun's come out)

In the UK we used to buy a pack of 10 smokes for 6 UK pence (penny's). Only the Pakistani shops would sell to us as we were only 8 and 9 years old kids 🤣
My mum use to send me to the shop when I was a kid to by pack of cigarettes and I got to buy lollies with the change from $1 now they are close to $50 in Australia, I’m happy I gave up 12yrs ago.

I think the term cubical is which he's referring to is in a public toilet "cubical", so suggesting someone is shooting up in possibly the most unclean environment possible, leading onto the next line. ?
Yeah, I don't think you are understanding where he's coming from. The juxtaposition is that he's not gone to bed yet! He's still going from his night out and he sees the people that are around at that time that other people just waking up to start their day and go off to their 9-5 jobs don't see -- the drunk girls also stumbling home like him worse for ware, the homeless guy whose had to sleep on that street, the Mum and her baby, she's probably tired as hell but can't get the baby to sleep, so she's had to go out and walk the streets to comfort it, later she'll probably go to the pub to meet her friends for lunch and a couple of drinks, you see? Meanwhile, the other side of the city is waking up and getting ready for the day, he's off home to bed LOL

A case can be made for those being the same things…. But technically yes, cubicle in states is a work area typically in an office setting.

The junkie bit... my interpretation is this is specifically referencing the all too common reality on the streets in Britain of heroin addicts shooting up in public washrooms. If one "cooks up" the heroin using a dirty spoon it can cause death... hence the mother at the funeral. But that whole section of lyric could be taken as a metaphor I suppose... maybe Britannia is the junkie?

Hi I'm a new viewer to your channel & I was drawn to it simply because I' watching a lot of reaction videos to discover what a different culture actualy thinks of Ren & his art. To be honest mate I think its amazing to see the SIMILARITIES in our cultures as I think you Yanks have many misconceptions about us Brits as much as us Brits have misconseptions about you Yanks lol. Lets face it, we all laughed at you for electing Donald Trump to presidency & a few months later we here humiliated ourselves by electing Boris Johnson as PM 🤣. Oh well, we all live & learn I hope 🙂. However, real reason for commenting is that I'm totaly thrilled at the overall USA response to Ren & his art

Hi Ren is not one take. There are continuity errors. Have a look at original video around 5m33s. His guitar strap is one way up, then the other then back again, all within a few seconds. Even so it is an amazing performance, genius and brilliant.
@@camperholics2495 No, my friend, there are obvious continuity errors, such as the lavalier microphone changing position. They may have used multiple cameras, but they also did multiple takes. xxxx
