Anyone who has never seen the original Verve video. this is an amazing Homage. The similarities are stunning, even though it's a completely different style of music
@@tribeloui2023 The Verve’s Urban Hymns (1997) is still in my top two albums today and Ren just made it better. Smile on my face again with both of you. Ren mentioned in the chat session before he released the video today that he had about 8 actors all together so some of the people were just bystanders. The Verve was a band in the 1990's if you look up their Bittersweet Symphony, you will see how he used the instrumentals as the base for the rap. Ren did an amazing job with it! For me, this is one of the iconic songs of the 90's and it takes me back to that time and place, living near the ocean in San Diego. The seagulls were the icing on the cake. Yeah, they're actors. There's NO WAY they could film this in less than 10,000 takes w/authentic passersby!. Bcz remember, they FILM these in one take. That doesn't count how many practices this takes. They save on continuity errors but the lighting has to be a nightmare!! This takes so many people to pull off. One take sound on an uncontrolled location? No. Freakin' craft services, production office staff, interns, sound. Security .runners...drivers. This is pure art by everyone involved. Ren is one smart cookie. Ren eats haters &; us Renegades cover up the crime scene. 😽
There's a lot going on in this. For a start 'The Seagulls' is Brighton & Hove Albion FC's nickname. They are the Premier League's plucky under-dogs. Ren's from Brighton, the whole song is an ode to his hometown. Ending it with 'We're birds of a feather' and the seagull sounds ties up a spiral. He's a clever kid. Puts out a much needed vibe. Hope he goes absolutely interstellar. Seems like a very brave lad with an incredible amount of talent and stoicism. Ren really is a Pure Creative Force. I'm a 51 year old who was lucky enough to see his train coming from behind an Akai mpc in Chester, UK. He's not wrong about street violence. I can't go out since having my head smashed in literally twice. Britain needs to get real with it's attitude to 'drugs'. The street fights are ridiculous. It's alcohol & cocaine related shittery. Last guys left me for dead in between 2 parked cars. I was walking, without my necessary crutches from a pub and got hit on the turn. Woke up at night-time. Half deaf. This video is more understandable when you watch "Bittersweet Symphony" by the Verve music video brother... It will make a ton more sense... This is an homage, but brought up to date with Ren & his view, not Richard Ashcroft.
This video is completely understandable w/o hearing or seeing the Verve's video, just because they both sample the same musical score & the videos are similar, doesn't mean that somehow Ren's music video isn't understandable... That's silly. And why not send him to the original song that they are both sampling from?
@@Bearlissimo Hell man, I deleted my original comment because I felt like I came off as being too aggressive... LOL I disagree with you that someone has to go & hear The Verve's video, so what? I like the original orchestral version of the song, more than I liked the Verve's version and think that if you want someone to hear about the music's origin, you should start at the actual beginning.
Brighton is a seaside city, hence the seagull soundsat the end, though I suspect Ren spliced them in to link to "birds of a feather". There were four takes for "I Ren", though the final one was a one shot. BSS must have been a one shot, though choreographically rehearsed with people who are probably his mates. Easy music to keep time to, though I couldn't see the earbuds or mics.

The original version was a huge hit back in the day, but they sampled The Rolling Stones without going through the proper channels or whatever, got sued and didn't end up making any money off it. Unfortunately, they were one hit wonders here in the States, not sure if they faired better in Britain.
They eventually came to an agreement with the Stones. Richard Ashcroft (singer/songwriter of the Verve) expressly thanked Jagger for being "generous and magnanimous".
