You saved me from calling a plumber. Thank you! I used Lime Away, let it sit and used a tooth brush. When I loosened the plastic handle screw, there was no buildup on the outside by the handle. The buildup was all inside the tank. The only thing I had difficulty with was figuring out which way to unscrew that plastic screw inside the tank. It turns out in my toilet to unscrew it, it goes clockwise 🤷♀️
Thanks! I told my husband about the toilet handle being tight in my bathroom. He looked at it and told me he loosened the chain and that’s all that he could do. I’ll be trying this. We live in Texas and the hard water here ruins everything.
One more thing to check, which may be more in cases in apartment complexes, is that the tank lever is the correct style for your tank. The maintenance workers of this 200+ unit complex that I live in installed the wrong one in my tank and so it pressed against the inside wall of the tank and got stuck when in the up position. The temporary fix for me was to loosen the handle nut way beyond what it should be. This allowed the handle to pivot in the xy direction, which prevented the lever from being pressed into the inside wall of the tank.
Tank cleaning... EASIEST HACK EVER: Swirl around some FRUIT FRESH powder in the back of your tank. You know, that white powder in the food canning section, at the grocery store? It's that stuff that stops fruit from turning brown! Toss some in those nasty toilet tanks and swirl the water around a bit. Almost instantly it starts whitening the nasty black looking gunk in your toilet tank. Go get a few bottles of it to clean all your toilets! ZERO ELBOW GREASE REQUIRED! You can 'TANK' me later!! 🤣😉🤣🤣😂🤣😂😉🚽
