Thank you for giving me permission not to try to be doing look ahead! I’m a fully casual solver and was feeling bad that maybe I should be trying to look ahead, but I’m still just learning to trust how I solve F2L cases and being slot neutral. My latest timed solve was 1:30, so when I say casual, I mean it. Haha
Hello J perm you are the person that got me into cubing, and I am planning on getting the MoYu Rs3 2020. So thank you for taking me on a never ending journey
Even as a Rouxer, this video was nice and constructive for me. Thank you so much! I think I'll start by inspecting without the timer until I can get a full first block during inspection. Then maybe I'll move to improving my CMLL recognition or my FB finger tricks.
solving front right F2L slot is my biggest problem. I will work on it! Thank you for the great video! Currently averaging around 17 seconds with full OLL and PLL.
A common mistake I always make is get into cubing and do it everyday then one day I just stop then after a while I come back and forget all the algs I learned before I stopped.
J Perm: You SHOULD be this J Perm Me: Woah a whole new ALG to learn... *tries for 10 minutes* I'm never going to get this. I give up I'm just going to stick with my current ALG... 7:10 Good Grief? Did I miss an update? As a recent learner of full PLL, I used your 2017 video Fast PLL Algorithms & Finger Tricks, which shows the same Jb alg but with two regrips. This video (same alg) shows such a smooth, buttery and easy regripless way, that I've been figuratively slapping my forehead for the past ten minutes at all the effort I could have saved.
I’m currently learning full ppl and Im going at the rate of 2 per day and I’ve learned 6 so far and I’m doing great. I hope it won’t be too overwhelming in the later stages but I’m already notic similirarites between the algorithms,
Hello J Perm, I just wanna say thank you a lot, you've helped me throughout these months, in cubing, my PB is 27.42, your amazing tutorials always helped me a lot and I'm grateful you make tutorials for us, you're an inspiration and I hope you continue and keep up the very great work, even though I haven't commented in a lot of videos, and even though I'm using a very cheap speedcube about 10$ (Qiyi Warrior) still I appreciate your work and yea good luck :)
yo man, whats your pb now? What did you imporve on after 2 years. I recently started speedcubing(been about 3-4 months),my pb is 20.59s I also use a cheap cube of NRs 250~=$2
Confirms I'm already headed in the right direction, but that means this is actually good timing to get me to double down on my efforts with these. And, then I was getting ready to go choose a J-Perm alg. So, perfect timing. Gawd knows what I might have picked on my own. Thank you so much.
Tbh, I basically have all these bad habits, once I get back into “serious” cubing, I’ll definitely try to improve, thanks j perm! Btw where’s the background music? I miss it :(
One of my mistakes is not learning what next algorithms I need, I thought f2l would take day and it took an hour because of your amazing tutorial! Also me ignoring specific ppl cases, I filed it out and learned the stupid g and r perms now my "mistake" is probably both not learning I'll cases ( I'm 2 look I'll tryna be 1 look) and not practicing getting better I'm basically just practicing and hoping I'll get faster but I know that with my skills and lags that I can't ever be sub ten lol I gotta trade certain things for others and work on look ahead of course
I love how J Perm is so straightforward that he doesnt even have an intro. Like, if you dont read the title you wont even know what the video is about.
Hi j perm I just wanted to say thanks because it is by your help that I have become a sub-20 speedcuber!!! I always see your tips videos your shortcut videos, etc. Thanks a lot!!!
Cheers i perm. I have been cubing nearly 4 months now. I got a rubiks brand for Xmas and an rs3m 2020 shortly after I could solve. I’m still on beginner method and can sub 1 minute quite regularly. Looking to learn CFOP now. Keep up the awesome content
As, a sub 15 cuber, my only 2 bad habits are the lack of look ahead and the lack of inspection. I think the latter is what I will work on. Your advice on taking 1.5 minutes for inspection at home was quite helpful. Thanks! Like if you have the same bad habits!
yes, that is right. I however look ahead my first f2l pair during the cross time and lose practically no time turning the cube. I am getting worse times doing the cross on the bottom.
Fun Fact : Moyu weilong line is special for J perm for these reasons Gts - First time got top three in competition. Gts2m - First Magnetic cube Gts3m - first cube with Moyu dual adjustment system system Wrm - first cube on which he got pvc coating wrm 2020 - first cube unboxed after wisdom teeth removal
I got my cross solutions relatively well figured out (that first cross solution you did, I would have done the same way). But I find it quite hard to search for my first F2L pair during inspection, especially considering the moves I do for the cross change the F2L pair locations... Will have to take those up to 1 Min 30 Secs to get this down though.
It took me a while to discover a few things about planning the cross. For whatever reason, my brain cannot memorize the color scheme. It's just a mental block. Then I realized 2 things: 1) you have the colors IN FRONT OF YOU (i.e. on the cube). Probably doesn't make sense to many people, but it does to me.
I just learned full PLL. Now I want to work on being more solid in F2L... turning my F2L case knowledge into muscle memory and get out of my 'front right slot' habit & doing more pinch U-turns.
Of these, my biggest weaknesses are that: 1) I don't even plan finger tricks for the cross and 2) I only recognise OLLs from certain angles (and I'm slow to recognise and execute them). So that's what I'll work on. Once I've finished practising blindfolded...
wow. this whole time i thought u HAD to line up pll in order to do the algorithm. my mind was blown my step 7 i literally got up out of my chair and yelled at my computer...
I agree with you for the 1st point I sometimes try to finish 2 centers together with the cross and most of the times end up with a 8 second cross so for now I am happy
I def. need to remember to inspect longer and plan more. my bad habit is to see one thing and just go for it, without actually _planning_ it, on the theory that I'll figure it out as I go. actually planning it properly will make other things easier if I stick to it.
I would avoid B moves for cross no matter what, it is better for me to do wide r or wide l moves, or even M or M' moves when needed. I am not kidding. It took me a while to discover a few things about planning the cross. For whatever reason, my brain cannot memorize the color scheme. It's just a mental block. Then I realized 2 things: 1) you have the colors IN FRONT OF YOU (i.e. on the cube). You can always just look at it to remind you that red is opposite orange, etc. 2) Once you have one pair of opposites planned in your head, its either aligned or "anti" aligned. If aligned, then the other pair should match up. If not, then it should be opposite. In my brain, this reduces the amount of information that I need to "plan" by a lot. Probably doesn't make sense to many people, but it does to me.
Another strategy is to memorize adjacent pairs:
* Red, Green
* Orange, Blue
Alternatively memorize opposite pairs:
* Red, Orange
* Green, Blue
I have a hard time planning the cross because it’s hard to track all the pieces and remember my solution when I do it
People like me comment first before watching the video LOL
