The real problem is when in a 20mph zone traveling at 19 to 20 mph and HGVs tailgate you and then overtake forcing you off the road when they then pull in half way past.

20 mph limits should not be applied where there is no evidence that 30 mph are causing an issue with safety. In many places where they are imposed they don’t save lives or improve safety. The sooner the government brings in its proposed limitations on the use of 20 mph zones the better.

I used to be a bus driver, and I kid you not, the timing from point to point in peak hours, in a certain area was less than the same time as the off peak. When you needed extra time at peak time, you actually had less.and you had to be Brian the Snail burning time off, off peak.

Speaking as a bus driver, I can confirm up in Nottingham at least that they do not adjust timetables when speed limits go down.

To be fair, many of these "queue jumpers" could simply be unaware of what the road layout is 2 junctions down the line, as is the case at least twice here. It's easy to know which lane to take if you know the area inside out.

I've noticed, especially in the last couple of years. that people drive far too close to the vehicle in front. I don't know why but I think it's because so many drivers now seem to think their car will slot into any gap in traffic and if you leave any braking distance some clown will go and stick their car in your braking distance. There's also far too much reliance on your car brakes and I watch this on a regular basis when I travel down Fish Hill (near Evesham) almost every car has their brake lights on for the whole of the hill whereas I'm in 3rd gear and don't have to brake continuously. I've also noticed late braking at junctions where people drive as fast as possible then brake like a lunatic 25 yards from the junction. My neighbour, who drives a van for a living, has all these faults when he drives and he scares me to death on the motorway when he's 2 car lengths away at 70-80mph from the vehicle in front😱😱😱😱

Is that new 20mph legal? Coming off the roundabout, that sign looks like a repeater to me, rather than a full size limit sign. I don't know what the law is regarding speed limit road signs, but I would have thought that you need full size signs at the start of the limit, with repeaters thereafter.

    • @JP_TaVeryMuch
      @JP_TaVeryMuch 3 месяца назад

@@chrisbrown5073Forgive me for stating the bleedin obvious but your argument is fundamentally flawed.
You do have some measure of logic on your side at other speed limits, in fact, EVERY other speed limit over the 20mph one, it evaporates at 20mph itself.
This is the lowest speed restriction widely encountered on the King's highway so the surprisingly unfriendly "stuff you lot [stuck] behind me" type remark only adds to the completely justified surprise you state that those you are backing up presumably experience.
I'd argue that 26mph, say, in a 30 is fine for most drivers to come across, as it's a legitimate reaction to the limit and a common enough occurrence so as not to be a distraction.
The same action under 20 is more likely to disorientate fellow road users as its illogical nature means that it's far less common to encounter and ~ in my own case right now ~ even to have heard of or more than that, to have imagined at all.
The only thing that is in its favour is in the league tables of 'driver's actions v. annual deaths therefrom.'
Of course the slower the speed, the fewer the fatalities.
Bet it results in loads more shunts though!

I agree with 20 mph. It was difficult to adjust to in Bristol, but the overall experience of driving became really calm and there is much more time and space to let people out and give way and see problems developing. Many people need to see what social media is doing to them, and they need get out of their echo chambers and stop thinking they are talking for ‘everyone’ against a vaguely defined evil, corrupt enemy who is trying to do them harm.

That is why, even in the old 30MPH limit areas, as a professional driver of many years, to ENSURE extra safety and reduce the likelihood of dangerous - life threatening - overtaking, I always drove a just OVER the speed limit.
Although in reality, now with the hindsight provided by these great automatic-speed-notification-signs and satellite navigation devices, it is likely my ACTUAL speed was always probably precisely on 30MPH; since dash speedometers always read slightly higher than one's actual speed.
Some drivers, on arriving behind another car, seem to be glancing at their speedometers, if it is even one mile an hour under the limit, they look for any opportunity to overtake, some even illegally or unsafely.

    • @scienceexperimentsforhomee261

Good. I hope there is no action and that it stays 20. It is much safer for pedestrians and vehicles. Half the roads in towns and villages and probably only safe at 20 anyway, certainly is in Abergavenny. Rule 125 of the Highway Code makes it clear that your safe speed is determined by the road conditions and hazards and may well be lower than the speed limit. It is a limit and not a target.

I suspect there is something SOME cyclists like about travelling in stealth mode (invisible at night due to dark clothing and no lights) despite the danger it poses to themselves and the grief that would be incurred by any motorist (or pedestrian) (or other cyclist) (or motorcyclist) who collides with one.
It means being unidentifiable if some road offence is committed. (Like having no lights!!!)
Motorists and motorcyclists do not have that luxury of anonymity. It would be difficult to remove it from cyclists though. And so they get away with a lot, such as cycling thru red lights with impunity.

At 4:20, the 20 speed sign is a repeater sign. What you should get is a larger sign (the same size as the 30 that you saw just before the roundabout). So if you were to get a ticket forcspeeding in the 20 zone you can argue that the 20 limit change was not properly signed as there was no large 20 sign from your direction. It is these kinds of technhcalities that Mr Loophole uses to get other people off speeding tickets.

@jagmarc I see, I think!! Yes the 30 mph before the roundabout is the large/dustbin lid size that tells you when the speed limit changes. The point that I and at least four others made was that there were no dustbin lids to say that LDC had gone into a 20. Only the small repeater signs. So theoretically, LDC was still in a 30 zone!!

Surely that drop from 30 to 20 after the roundabout isn't a legal change as it doesn't have the legal sized on both sides speed limit sign. The one on the left is a single repeater. This happens a lot in London the speed limits change from 20 to 30 and back regularly without proper signage. . Not that they bother but the big white painted ones on the road are not legal speed limit signs.

The speed limit signs and road markings at 4:00 are all illegal. The painted 30MPH on the road is before the Gate 30MPH signs which is where the 30 MPH speed limit begins. When you turn right, to change the limit there HAS to be a Gate sign, i.e the larger diameter signs each side of the carriageway. The 20MPH sign is a repeater to remind you, but you haven't gone through a Gate sign, therefore the speed limit is still 30MPH. If you get done in this area for 30MPH, show this video and it will get thrown out of court. Council doing their job really well again, and wasting money.

Its annoying, as soon as the national limit appears, its clear how skillful they are... the first corner sees a barrage of brake lights and I sit behind them, compensating for their lack of ability with a smile.

Not because of my driving, but because I didn't drive in a way to fix their bad driving. They don't give way at roundabouts, its my fault. They do a bad merge on the motorway, its my fault. Park on zigzag lines, its my fault. Do a crazy U turn, its my fault. Don't use indicators, its my fault.

Then you've completely failed to understand what Ashley Neal is saying if you think in each case "it's my fault". Ashley never says that anywhere in his videos. It's simply a case of how you can make driving safe for everyone. It's even made quite clear in Highway Code preamble to general rules 103-158, "Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident." It is completely irrelevant who is wrong and who is right.

@TheBlackJuJu Well nothing has changed my mind that you know absolutely nothing about defensive driving and that you know a lot about egotistical driving. Having driven for 35 years and driving 500 miles a day just means that you have driven for 35 years and drive 500 miles a day. That and not having had a collision does not mean that you are a competent or safe driver. I would put you in the same category of LDC who goes around assuming that he has the right of way in many situations yet oblvious to the Highway Code ruling that no-one has a right of way. "The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident." This is the preamble to rules 103-158. Do you ever read the Highway Code?

At that special roundabout (2:32sec) there’s three exits so, in this case all three cars (if giving way to the right) would all have to give way to each other? Correct me if I am wrong, so in this instance you have to just negotiate with each other and it’s who ever goes first? The car to the right went first, so the “berk in the merc” should’ve waited.
