thank you for sharing! I am a case management supervisor in Nebraska. I will be moving to Florida in the next few years and hope to work in the system so this is really helpful! I know this video is a few years old but an updated one with updated links would be so helpful!
Florida Grown Adventure - are you still fostering. I was thinking of fostering but I want to do it for older teenagers, like 18-19, who are in independent living
Lisa Brooks we are still licensed and are licensed until August. At this point, I don’t think we will renew as we are trying to move. I don’t think our foster Care door is closed for life. I just need sometime.... Our last placement left in January. 18 years old. It was a hard goodbye as it wasn’t a happy occasion. We were supposed to get placed with her 16 year old sister months ago but the system didn’t work in our favor for that placement and she is with her old GAL. I have been less than impressed with the IL for our case. & if she is a reflection of the program as a whole, it needs a revamping. As a whole teenagers are extremely challenging but I think I just need a hiatus from the emotional craziness from my last year and half with my teen placements.😂 I would definitely encourage you to go after the age group you feel led to. That feeling is there for a reason!
@@FloridaGrownAdventure Hi there, I just found your utube channel today. My husband and I would like to become foster parents, and who knows maybe even adopt a new born since our kids are all grown and married... Do you know if we adopt in the future do we pay for the adoption fees or does the state pay it ? Also, we can give an age limit on the kids we would like to foster right ? And also can we travel with the foster kids, or are they not permitted to leave the state... Thank you ! Ps are you still a foster parent ?
I rather have a foster care with my cousin Jessica who lives in North Miami Beach Florida vice city 🌃 even though Lubbock is so boring even though there’s children’s foster care
For about a year and a half. We had our first placement before I got pregnant with my daughter. She’s now 8 months old and we just let our licensing worker know we’re ready now ☺️
So my partner and I dream of providing a home for youth who got kicked out for being queer. Does anyone know if that’s a possibility through the Florida foster system? It’s okay if it’s not, the end of the days, the most important thing to us is providing a loving and stable home to teens so they can flourish in life.
Absolutely not! There were several single foster parents while I was a foster parent. As long as there’s a good support system in place, you’ll be fine. 😊
So the time limit is assigned but also open ended. So you could get calls that are like “hey we need an emergency placement for tonight and we have permanent placement after that.” Or there’s placement that you take that you just don’t know how long it could be. You could have a child for a week or even years. A lot of people start out doing respite care, which is basically you watching another families foster kids while they’re out of town. Respite is usually always a calculated time frame.
Thanks for your video! We recently filed our paperwork with KCI within the last week or so for adoption and are pretty nervous about the home study! How was your experience with that?
I was nervous about the home study as well but I think I made it into a bigger thing in my head. As long as you and your home are safe, they will see that. Just follow the checklist and you will be ok. Even if something is not right, but fixable, they will give you a chance to fix it. Good luck!
George Ramos i have not heard that. The licensing process for becoming a foster parent can be done pretty quickly but adoption is case by case. You could be waiting 2 months or you could be waiting 2 years.
Hi! My husband and I would love to foster. I am currently pregnant with my 4 baby. Is there a age that your youngest child needs to be before you foster? Also are they against certain dog breeds?
Jessica Wilbanks I think maybe this would depend on the state but here in Florida: there is not an age “limit” for your youngest child. That’s up to you. For dogs, as long as their friendly, it should be fine. I have a Rottweiler, pit, lab, & chihuahua mix. All are very friendly and we were approved.
Two Family Homestead U can do both. My wife, & I have two biological children together. We wish to have two more children courtesy of foster care to adoption. 🙏🏽

Subscribing to watch more videos later and ask questions. Thank you for this
Not sure if you’ll see this but I’m thinking about doing this but as a single foster parent do you think that’s a crazy idea ? Lol
Absolutely not! There were several single foster parents while I was a foster parent. As long as there’s a good support system in place, you’ll be fine. 😊
Do you choose the time the children stay with you or is it assigned?
So the time limit is assigned but also open ended. Florida Grown Adventure thank you 😊
renatacuriosa of course!
Girl, I'm in Orlando and looking into foster parenting. I'd love to know if you ever do a starbucks meetup I want to know more about your story.

Is it true that Florida is the fastest state to adopt children (foster care to adoption)?
George Ramos i have not heard that. The licensing process for becoming a foster parent can be done pretty quickly but adoption is case by case. You could be waiting 2 months or you could be waiting 2 years.
It took me 7 months to be licensed here in FL.

@@FloridaGrownAdventure Thank you so much for the reply. We are in Florida as well. We will definitely look into it.
God bless you and your family!
Jessica Wilbanks you too and good luck!
Always wanted a big family - then it was I would have liked to have been a foster parent
Two Family Homestead foster parents are so very needed, especially for the older age groups. If you feel like you should, DO IT. It truly matters.
