    Hers what you do. 1st it is very important that you smooth the plaster as best as u can when wet. And if not, dont panic!The rough grade of sandpaper is for getting ride of the parts you don't want as well as sanding down some edges.2nd(IMPORTANT PART), use a VERY light grade of sandpaper to smooth it all out nicely.And be very gentle when sanding.take your time. If you rush with either the rough or the lighter sandpaper, you will always tear away the layers.So please take pride and be patient:)

    Also,
    Two small holes are carefully drilled above the right ear and at the extreme left corner of the forehead; the wire placed between the holes, and secured with a strong thread, just as the authentic stage masks are done

    What I did was get a plain plastic face mask off amazon, cut it to shape and reattached the elastic at the newly discarded side. It fit my face really well, and it already had a clear facial bone structure so all I had to do was dip it into plaster of Paris powder solution, let it dry, repeat a couple of times and voila. I know this may not work for everyone, I was just lucky it fit my face exactly and comfortably. However, if, like me, you can find a plastic mask that fits, that is maybe an easier route to go down, not to mention being less messy and easily replaceable should something go wrong in the making.

  • @93142
    @93142  13 лет назад +1

    @littlephantom23 Between layers, let it dry for 3 minutes. Than when you are finally finished, let the whole thing dry to 24 hours. Than you can sand it, paint it, and add details to your liking. :)

    @93142 I don't know if it works with the plaster or not, but you might also try a little spirit gum on the edges!

  • @xahnolee
    @xahnolee 12 лет назад +1

    Thank you for making this video its very helpful! What grain sandpaper did you use? im having a problem of the sandpaper tearing away layers of the mask. i also need to redo it anyways because i need to smooth out plaster to fill the holes

  • @93142
    @93142  13 лет назад +1

    @CraigTuckerCosplay Awe, ok well don't worry the second time will work out fine! :( to sand it. Make sure you go against the grain. In other words, were ever you see the strips( which you should too much since it should be smoothed out while applying), go with the strips, not against them, or it will become stringy and rough. Plus you might damage the mask. Now what I did it let the mask rest over night so I can be %100 dry, since I did about 4 layers of plaster wrap. Than after, it was fine to

    TO WEAR MASK Drill two small holes above the right ear and at the extreme left corner of the forehead and thread piano wire with a strong thread. This is how the stage masks are done/worn

  • @93142
    @93142  13 лет назад +1

    @TheTitanic4 You should only sand the outside of the mask so get the smooth edges, as well as the creases where the eyes are as well. :)

  • @93142
    @93142  13 лет назад +1

    @CraigTuckerCosplay No it won't stay in your face, your going to have to use a wire or some string and attach it to the mask so it will stay on. Eaither that, or you can buy this tape that's used for masks to stay on your face. It doesn't harm your skin at all. :)

    @WeepingWillow2616 I am in love with the books, as well as the film remake and the plays. Especially Love never Dies. Ramin is my favorite phantom by far! And everytime I listen to the songs when I go to bed, I picture in my head, as an actor, what the Phantom mask looks like in my own world. So I decided to make my own version of the mask. And I very much enjoy it. It was just the way I imagined it to be. :)

    Alright! I just finished mine and painted it last night. I'm gonna make another one because I don't like the way it turned out. Mine came out kind of rough.. I tried to smooth it along the way.. but I guess it kind of failed.. How long did it take you making the entire mold on your face? Yours turned out amazing. I couldn't sand the mistakes since they were so noticeable. :/

    Question, do you need to position it quickly, or do you have quite a while to play around positioning it? thanks! also, 93142 what grid of sandpaper do you use? something light?

    • @93142
      @93142  9 лет назад +1

      Hello! Once you place the strip onto your face, you might be able to adjust it slightly, but once it's flush to your skin, if you try to adjust it, it will ruin the strip and it will become unusable.
      The grid of paper depends on how many layers your using. How many are you using?

    • @93142
      @93142  8 лет назад +1

      Use a lighter grid, and you don't have too much time to adjust once it's applied, for the plaster starts to dry fairly quickly once it's on your skin

    @NoGoodDeedWilliDo11 I think I used 200? Not too sure. Depends on how rough ur mask is. And awesom! Make as many as u can :) it died suck when u make one that had a few holes in it. That why when you place a strip on, u need to smooth it on with your fingers real good.

    How exactly do you dip the strips? Could you explain the process in detail?

    • @93142
      @93142  10 лет назад

      Ok!
      1) Take a strip of player wrap
      2) Dip in water
      3) Take two fingers (I used my index and ring finger) and run the dipped strip in between them from top to bottom to get rid of access water

    • @FalconsWarrior
      @FalconsWarrior 10 лет назад

      I mean like, how much of the strip should be dipped in, and for how long?

    • @93142
      @93142  10 лет назад

      You put the whole strip into the water, but not for very long at all. Maybe 1 and a half seconds or so. Just enough so it's completely wet, but not necessarily soaked :)
