      Not planning to stop. It's not technically worth it to me from a time/finances standpoint, but I think the value to the viewer is really high, and I like having multiple/backup channels a lot. And it's a good way for me to get other games VODs to get a little extra value.

    To your point, Book of specters was a greatly designed card : super powerful but anti synergistic with Mage's spell focused direction. Springwater is super powerful but synergistic with mage in general and with the spell mage package.
    I do feel that they used to designed more cards that presented us with deck building puzzle.

    • @johnscottguggenheime

      People complained about Incanters Flow, but really to me the Springwater is the mage quest card that gets me furious. Didn't get a good hand this turn? Oh lets just draw to new cards and try again (basically) for free! TERRIBLE design

      Yeah I honestly just leave if I get put against a quest mage or warlock right now. Like it’s not even fun to win against them because you basically just played a game with yourself…

    re: Casual. This is probably my biggest pet peeve in hearthstone. I often play janky gold quest decks or off the wall decks in casual. My current favorite is a queen carnessa deck, who's main point is to dire frenzy the queen for lots and lots of raptors. And this deck just isn't viable in f'n casual.
    I'm not a new player, and so I can actually pull together a competitive deck, but I can't imagine how it would feel to be new and have a small collection of cards. You play ranked, get roflstomped by these designed decks and then try casual to avoid the sweaty ones... and get roflstomped by the same decks, just played by sweaties who have such crippling ladder anxiety that they refuse to play on an equal playing field.
    There needs to be a rule where if a super majority of a deck has of the same cards of any deck played at legend, that deck just can't be played in casual.

      Perhaps a "shuffle 3 more copies into your deck that deal one extra damage" but those copies don't spawn more copies? I like that idea a lot.

    Hi Regis! Love your vids and I just wanted to say that I agree fully with your thoughts/rant at the end.
    I’ve been interested in hearthstone for a while without actually playing but at the end of last expansion I finally picked it up. I didn’t play much and thought I would give it a more proper try this new expansion but I ended up just playing battlegrounds or the solo stuff. Since I don’t have like any cards I can’t even come close to a metadeck and I just get run over when I play standard with my homebrew-deck. The fact that it is close to impossible to win or let alone have fun as a new player is just a huge problem that ruins the game.

  • @hectormarcano7950
    @hectormarcano7950 3 года назад

    I'm late to the party but my god that rant on the end is exactly what it feels like. I'm a casual player and I play only 2 or so games when I can...but it's just as you said Regis. I feel like unless I get the specific deck I can't win, and just playing that specific deck to go into sweat mode is just not fun at all. I tend to now just spend my time when I do play 1 or 2 games just doing Battlegrounds. I have a blast there.

  • @CrundoSplashberry

    I think there's a part of this experience that is really interesting, this is quite possibly the single strongest, fastest, most combo-heavy, least casual-friendly meta ever, and that's pretty interesting as in the past we've had chances for wacky decks to reach legend, whereas now the meta is pretty close to "solved" for lack of a better term.
    We'll have to see the long term effects of UiS on the overall future of the game, but I think this expansion is the single most impactful on its meta ever, even more than Witchwood or Gadgetzan.

    I agree with your last point, I felt like back in early hearthstone I saw A LOT more variety of decks and people being creative, like maybe 1 in 3 decks were like this home brew deck that was just for fun . Now it feels like 1 in 100 (if even that) are not top meta decks that I always see. It kinda sucks and makes the game more narrow in my opinion.

    • @Hephaestus_God
      @Hephaestus_God 3 года назад +1

      the card itself is not busted.
      It's the qust that gives them 2 coppies as well as negates overload for them in the early game. Which just defeats the purpose of the downsides of overload.
      This entire expansion is "How can we make this questline not fun for the opponent"

    Although I don't agree with all your points, I think the main take away I do agree with is that they try too hard to push specific archetypes. It's only ever going to end up like this when they force shit, and it's been like that for years. Spell Hunter, Cube Warlock, Jade Druid (KoTF era), and on and on. All these decks get forced so hard that they have nothing to do but become meta and insane.

    It used to be that you could see regular content creators get Legend with absolute gimmick decks like Casino Mage (GvG-Kara era, not the actual good Casino Mages) or Randuin Wrynn, in the old Rank format where it's tougher to reach Legend. That isn't really ever seen anymore these days, outside of maybe changing a couple of cards in an otherwise high-tier deck. There's a couple of gimmick survivors like MarkMcZ and Roffle, but they don't rank much at all, even in the new Rank system.

    I do think part of the problem is that you're at high diamond. I've been playing a homebrew pirate warrior that did great up until I got to diamond, but now it's starting to hit its limits and I think I'll have to switch to a meta deck. But that said, I think the refined meta is somewhat unavoidable in card games, at least in constructed formats, but there is some fault with the design of the game that some synergies enable a deck to be too far and too reliable against the "baseline" deck with decent on-curve minions.
