without Jeff Bridges this movie would've sunk into obscurity. The other actors/characters are great, but Bridges and how he plays The Dude carries the movie, every scene. (That's just my opinion, man.)

And I remember working at a video store in Santa Monica on 4th street, and watching the first Gulf War on the monitors when it broke out - just like the dude in the supermarket. A few years later I was a senior at UCLA on exchange in France, and I saw this movie in Paris. It made me so homesick - it was just like what Venice was back then. And really funny. Parts, anyway.
