9 years ago I was on flight home from Qatar, I had been in the Middle East skating and speaking at school in Al Khor about my career as an artist. I made a connection in London and this guy sits down next me and sees that I was working on skateboard graphics on my laptop. The dude was Heath Brinkley. He was TM at Etnies at the time and bunch of the team was on that flight. Heath and I chatted skating for 8 hours straight. Funny things was the flight had to make an emergency landing in Detroit because of a crack in the windshield of the plane and I ended up hanging with those dudes for hours. Nicest guy ever, was super cool, and really informative to me as I was early in my career as an artist in skateboarding. I actually ended up sending him a package of art and a board and he sent me some shoes. Hell yeah Heath!
I love episodes with skateboard industry talk
Agreed!
I saw Chris eating at Cinnabon by himself at the Westfield Culver City Mall the other day.
LOL, pics?!
Genius move.
Jacek Fota .....call hsu
Was Kelly gonna start interviewing?
chris’s face at 20:12 and his disbelief of pissed in ball pits 🤣
I love these older skateboarding veterans you guys bring on. So much knowledge, wisdom and entertainment.
I love how hyped Kelly was on just the mention of Chuckie Cheese!
No one deserves success in the skateboarding space more than Heath. We were a bunch of punk kids who started skating in Whitehouse Tn around 1988. Heath was already a local legend. He would come over and taught us how to Ollie and do kick flips. What we saw as a fun pastime Heath was already making moves to make it a career. He was always kind and fun. He willed his dream into fruition and deserves every attribute to his success. The kids from the neighborhood are very proud of you Heath.
Logic video series was rad! Hyped on this episode because I had no idea about Heath's involvement in Primitive and other current projects. As a 30 something year old dude that's been in and out of the skateboard industry for 20 years, from working at a shop to brand owner, it's refreshing to hear someone speak so clearly and candidly about the skate industry. From being a TM, filmer, company owner, to inflation and shrinking margins. Big fan of his skate/business ethos and work ethic. As a "core brand" supporter, I've never really given Primitive the time of day (minus hooking up Carlos Ribiero because that dude deserves all the good things in life) nor really appreciated the aesthetic of the brand but I respect it a whole lot more now and would whole heartedly support in the future. The veil has been lifted.
SO YOU WERE IN THE SKATE INDUSTRY AT 10?????
I loved this episode. So fun to hear his stories. So cool when he talked about the sponsor me tapes that kids send in. More people like him in skateboarding! Thank you for making these episodes!
Jeremy Klein would be a sickk guest to interview
Anderson Cooper lookin good
Heath is a Tn legend. A great story of never giving up on your dreams. Much love heath!!
You could read his story in a book and it would sound like it was a made up fantasy life, a feel good story like you see in Hollywood films. Except all of this is real.
Heath woke up with 1,000 kids sending in tape for a free board😂
Great episode guys
kook
Just got Giovani Vianna’s new board plus he’s my favorite skater RN. Keep it going guys I’m writing this December 2020. This was 2 years ago and Primitive has grown soooooo much and it’s one of my top favorite companies
Great interview, it's nice to have more serious guest from time to time
I grew up on Logic and 411 videos like crazy! Lol that’s what we had in 1997
This episode was amazing I normally fall asleep to podcasts but lately I’ve been so interested in your podcasts I can’t sleep 😂
One of the best episodes yet. I love the famous OG’s talking about their stories, but guys who have gotten the grind on and care about the industry help us see what’s going on behind the scene is really important.
One of the best episodes so far. So great getting to hear from guys like Heath and get a much better view of behind the scenes in the industry.
You know it's gonna be sick when it all started in 1986!
This is why I love this stuff. Had no idea who this was. Blown away.
another Banger guys.. good stuff..keep em coming!!!
Prices on boards have definetly risen over the 10 years i've been skating in every shop in sweden. 55 bucks sounds like a dream. over here standard price for a board is more like 75-80 bucks.
Heath is the most down to earth guy I’ve heard I’ve always loved him and this makes me even more ❤️
Such a humble person 💯
Don’t know this guy but still really enjoyed this. Thank you
Hell yeah, Heath! Thanks for the shout out!
I love it when you guys bring someone who works behind the scenes and has done so much for skateboaring
CityStars IG woke up this morning. Coincidence? I think not.
Fun Fact: "The Captain" from "Captain n Casey" editted for Logic
Never noticed you guys post links of stuff you talk about. Thanks so much! I was about to start looking shit up.
Guys, this was a great interview, one of your best. Heath was funny and informative.
heath is awesome guy!
Love, Love the Venice Pits. A golden time in skateboarding. Glad I got to session it more than a few times.
Listened all the way to the end. This was a good one.
Heath rocks. Great interview
About time someone talked about Roger’s BS Nosegrind 180 pop out! I was always psyched on that trick...way ahead of its time. Thanks for another great episode guys!
Best episode, so much knowledge and history
Inflation is negated with the fact that board production is more automated. Graphics are no longer silk screened especially with the death of Paisley. Europeans paying more for boards is called shipping. Its not as simple as inflation should result in an overall price increase.
kreekybones miss the better days of d.i.y
Super good and interesting episode, Heath is awesome and I learned things I didnt even think about the skateboarding industry
The utmost respect to the guy who gave Paul his first board. Hat off dude
Honestly one of my favorite episodes
Heath a 🐐‼️
This episode surprised me. Really good stuff.
kelly has more nicknames than any human ever
thank you!
yesssssss TN represent! Heath is a good dude
I'd love to see Fos on the show, great episode too guys!
Word! I had to call 303 boards and congratulate them he is wearing a Colfax sweatshirt! Just as the comment before mine, I love interviews like this giving Insight behind the skateboarding industry. Again, thank you all @ the9!
great episode
Heath is the truth and 1 of the main reasons I had any kind of career in skateboarding
Ended up being one of my favorite episodes.
Great episode, seems like a pretty cool humble dude.
This was rad. I really dig the industry stuff! I used to work at a shop but there's so much you don't learn and always wanted to know. I really appreciate these guests who are kind of a risk for you guys cause it's not the Gator interview or some shit.
Killer episode. I too, sent a sponsor me tape to Powell back in the late 80's and got the "thanks but no thanks" letter with the Intelligence Report, a poster, and some stickers. I actually must have been on a mailing list for a little while because I kept getting those things for a bit.
Stoked.
As a Skateboarder, I don’t mind paying a little more for boards. I understand that business side needs the money if it’s a skater owned brand. Great episode!!
I loved hearing what he had to say about owning a skate shop. I never had a clue, mad respect to all local shop owners. would be cool to hear from local shop owners as well. I'm sure they have interesting stories, being closely connected to the skate community directly in their city. Every state has there own style/ culture. Definitely intriguing. Here's my recommendation San Antonio, Tx. Evolution skateboards💜
Anyone who was around me...."thought you were insane" Lol funny guy Chris 😂
I’m from Texas and never knew Big Red was exclusive to us. #blessed
Sam Young it's not lol
Thanks for the mention, Kelly. Even if it was just for slamming...
Haneywood legend 🙌🙌🙌
Much love, and appreciation.
what's up buddy ? Team Nine Club all day !
Get Ryan Gee on the Show !
drunk n stoned the periwinkle section for the next exp
They asked him if the production company behind “logic” skated; He was afraid to say they were rollerbladers :P (T-Bone films)
Nintendo tapes & Rollerblading haha nothing wrong with that. Idk why there's hate between action sports. I try to do everything.
Chris Nobles that’s the right attitude bro!
The gold boards ! Prod and heath 2 of the most humble and ethical dudes in the industry 💯
Hell yeah I love the first part of the interview, very nostalgic. I remember the XXX sports days with gangsta Wayne haha I was kinda shocked Heath brought that up and I’m glad he did. Not to mention along with the timberlands he would also skate in high top Filas. haha yeah and the east avenue video was the awesome I had a few east avenue decks as well. Legislative plaza, I skated there a lot, I even got arrested as a juvenile for skating there.😎
Logic Black n Blue! Always liked that one back in the day!!!
Wish I had these episodes as lectures at school!
i would drop everything to be a filmer for a skateboard company like Primitive. Ive been filming skateboarding since i was 14 and im 29 now. I still do it for the love. thank you Heath for the inspiration
Heath rocks! Love logics !!
Get Lindsey Robertson on.
Was interesting to hear about the business aspect
Sick episode!
I love my Appleyard mug
Great 'sode. Thx again.
Dude, big red is amazing! Gotta be in the mood for it though. Big peach and big blue as well.
Hahaha I have family in Texas too and getting Big Red was always the highlight of the trip when we would go visit them.

That was a good interview with OG magnum
Learned a lot from this and the Buscemi reel.

BIG RED!!!!! Literally just found a liquor store by my house that carries it! It was notalgic to the last sip! Bout to cop a mug to sip my big red out of.
best videos to watch stoned
His comparison of travel soccer and skateboarding is flawed. He is comparing the cost of a deck with the cost of exclusive coaching, travel, hotel stays, field rentals etc. What is the cost of flying a team over to Greece, filming, and hotel stays? Probably more than travel soccer. Even when you look at hockey, a kid can buy a stick for $150, but he has that stick for a year or more. His pads are also things he will use for a while. I don't disagree that hockey costs more, I play hockey, but I don't buy hockey equipment to destroy it. I have the pads and skates for multiple years. People buy skateboards to go out and destroy them, from day one. What is a kid going to do when he goes out and breaks his board day one? Go out and buy another $100 deck? It is unreasonable. If the skate industry as a whole raises prices, it will only increase Revive sales. Good on Revive for doing business "out of the box".
I guess the bigger picture to look at and the point he’s trying to make is do you want your favorite skateboard company’s struggling to stay in business and loosing money or thriving? I wonder if that hockey stick you buy today for $150 bucks was the same price 20 years ago? Or has the price gone up over the years so those hockey stick companies can stay in business? It’s a very interesting topic to say the least.
It is a very interesting topic. These conversations you have with your guests are the reason I tune in each week. I would not be wholly truthful if I didn't say I am surprised the price of a deck has remained relatively the same. However, in most hockey stick cases, the costs have risen with the advances in technology. Are there innovations happening in the way skate decks are made? For example, hockey sticks now have carbon fiber/graphite shafts. Each deck today is made essentially the same way with the same materials it has been since the early 90s (unless I just don't know because I am not "in the know" in the skate industry). I live in Japan and board prices are $100 even for the local brands. I don't know how kids do it. It is why I don't buy boards from the local shops, although I would love to support them, but I can't pay those prices consistently. I do my best to pay double (compared to the States) on wheels and bearings when I need them from the local shops.
Great show! I love it! It truly does get skaters talking. I love hearing about how the industry works.I have become a big fan of each your skating. Keep 'em coming.
Logic skate vids were the best, 4 to 10 are amazing
Cool to see the business perspective from dudes like heath and ryan. Need a Roger episode too
Despite everything I’ve heard, Logic was the best thing to ever happen to us in Hollywood. Team Logic all day! Mike Range and all of the fream team and all the Florida dudes showed us so much love!!! Also Danny Gonzalez he’s got the best fuckin part in Logic hands down even tho all the parts are insane and classic.
More industry talk please!
order more large shirts please kelly
You're special, special guest!
Great show... i like to here the stories about how they got where they are. Like how Dyrdek hekped him and how prod called him ect....these are the best parts. It would be good to see the Appleyard art work upclose . Thanks . From Australia
