Im 32 and have been a chronic pain patient for over a decade. Spinal reconstructs, multiple broken vertebrae, severed nerves, and aggresive ketamine therapy changed my life. Got me off the opiates. After wasting away so many of my prime years Ketamine literally saved my life. Now I have an amazing job, have an amazing girlfriend, and expecting my first child. None of this would have been possible without ketamine therapy. This isnt even to mention the emotional/spititual growth and introspect i gained from it. Thank you Theo for having this Dr. on the show to help spread the word of this life saving treatment.

I was in an emotionally unstable state far past depression where I went from numbness to collapsed on the floor crying in absolute misery to numbness every 15 minutes. I sought interveinous ketamine treatment in 2016 when it was experimental and only a few doctors were trying it. It made me feel fuzzy afterwards, but restabilized me and rather than continue with smaller doses of ketamine, I spent my time after the treatment session to look into what got me to be there and I put effort in to fixing my life (paired with therapy). Ketamine absolutely saved me from suicide. I have accomplished a lot in my life since then and now am in a great mental space. I hope other people are able to find the same success with their treatments.

But seeing and reading that in that moment, a couple minutes ago, I felt it. I'm going thru so much. I'm terminally ill. Single. No family. Over the years, my friends have all left me behind. I'm homebound. In a wheelchair for the last 6 years ago. But I have some other issues and I have no way of getting out into public. I sit alone 98% of the time. I always feel like I'm in a part of the rest of everyone. I feel unwanted. It sucks to feel this way literally every day, constantly. It's hard. But I needed to read what you wrote there, man. My mother had ECT about 15 years ago. 6 rounds. She went from a successful, caring, fun loving mother and wife and descended into a clinical depression that robbed her of her job, identity, and almost cost her her life after a very close suicide attempt. She was a shell of herself. A zombie incapable of rational thought. ECT literally restarted her mind. Unfortunately, that’s what many people I know and that knows me don’t understand. I had to ghost a lot of people for various reasons. But, traumatic events is the common denominator as to why. Plus, I’m just tired of being disrespected. Now, I just simply don’t care if they know personally if I’m dead or alive. It actually makes me happier with them not knowing. What I do know is I have no interest in going back or doing the same stupid sh*t that got me to those traumatic events. I just feel better knowing I shut out all that toxicity that continuously contaminated my well being.

For people asking if the treatment "lasted," the answer is yes. Dr. Pooler led me through ketamine therapy a year ago and I've experienced unimaginable relief. I've felt more stable and optimistic for the last year, and I can't remember feeling this way since before I was 12. 15 years of depression really fucks you up but this treatment has helped me more than any medicine. @@conradbarrett6 first of all, thank you for your concern. +1 faith in humanity(especially for a RUclips comment haha), this is how we do the work together as a people. I have a genetic predisposition to severe depression, along with growing up poor, fatherless, and with a mother who simply could not retain presence of mind dealing with her own depression and addiction issues due to lifelong parental(emotional/psychological) and spousal(physical+) abuse/abandonment. I would say my depression really kicked in around 5th grade actually, which was the first time I attempted suicide. I was first prescribed an ssri at age 14, which I discontinued in two weeks as it actually ramped up my suicidal ideation to being literally the only thing I could think about. It was frightening. I thus began experimenting with psychedelics at age 15, which also deserve a lot of the credit. I first discovered ketamine at age 19 I believe, but it has been a long journey to get to the point where I could make progress without guided therapy in conjunction. It is not for everybody, as you really have to be intentional about doing the internal work. It is not a permanent fix, but the effects do last for about 3 months at a time before I begin to slip back into it. It is just something I have to live with unfortunately, but I am making progress. I have been doing CBT & DBT(cognitive & dialectic behavioral therapy) every weekday for the past 7 or so months in a group setting, thanks to my state's incredible detox and recovery program. I am now 226 days clean from serious, yet functional heroin(6 years) & alcohol(10 years) addiction. I really struggle with the lack of humanity in the world and particularly American society amongst my peers. I have a lot of hope for us as a people, which puts me in a position to lose all of it on a daily basis. Thank you once again though, for I need to see the good in people as often as possible. Hopefully my story can help somebody else who is struggling. Much love.
