I recently shot my first rolls of Ektar 100 35mm in the mountains and was astounded how much detail, depth and contrast and sharpness it gave me. So good it almost has a 3d efffect. I can only imagine how incredible it would look on medium format.
So great how you captured the spirit and the vintage vibes of Red Hook! The cards, the shops… when I walk there I always have that feeling and you really transmitted that.
Great video, I appreciate the side by side of the old Falcon. I love both these films, Ektar sunsets are amazing, and blue mountain lakes with peaks behind are amazing with Ektacrome.
Hey Marcus from Australia. Just very slowly coming out out of severe lock-down for the last 3 mths. down here in Melbourne. Just came across this video. Awesome. Lovely to see someone able to walk around freely on a nice sunny day taking street photography. Subscribed immediately.
Beautiful photos! Thanks for doing this comparison & making the video. I’m new to film (using a simple analog Kodak H35) & my first roll is the Ektar 100. I haven’t developed it yet, but I’m thinking about trying the Ektachrome as well. Read some comparison blog posts before this & I think your review just helped me decide!
Love your videos. I also have a GW690 and it's addictive to shoot with. Just knowing the size of the negatives you're capturing makes it exciting. It's fun watching someone else use the camera who loves it, too. Keep up the great work. Btw, Team Ektar all the way.
I love the fact that you have committed to using one camera for many of you videos. It's great to really become familiar with one camera and learn it in a deep way. Plus, the Fuji is just about as good as a camera gets!
So true Arthur. That’s my approach to photography. I don’t really shoot with every camera that comes out. Even though that seems to be the best way to grow on RUclips
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Westin Rohan Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Just blitzed through all your Texas Leica videos as I've been curious for a while. Everyone seems to shoot the 6x7 look and I'm loving the 6x9. So much cheaper too, the camera, rather than shots for your buck. Keep up the great content. I'll be over on eBay trying to find a good deal.
Hi Marcus, another nice video and interesting comparison between Ektachrome 100 slide vs Ektar 100 negative film. Understand your hesitation on Ektarchrome as the colours are a bit colder than your style of photography. I'm much older than you and grew up on Kodachrome and Ektachrome, you chose Kodachrome for reds and yellows and Ektachrome for blues and greens. Keep up the good work. If I ever make it over the pond, I'll get you out to be my street photo tour guide for a day.... I'll treat you to a soft shell crab lunch at Lola's. Stay safe matey. Henry
Nicely made video. Lots of work gone into it. Nice work. I'm a big fan of both Ektar and Ektachrome (and Provia). Last year I bought a MF projector even (Hasselblad PCP 80) as I had plans to shoot it (Ektachrome and Provia) largely exclusively for all colour work. But to be honest, Ektar delivers such great results with added benefit of versatility and slightly more affordable, and I find it is great for portraiture too despite what people say about using it for that. Sure, one can not project Ektar or look at it on a lighttable with such splendour, but it scans so well and the prints look awesome. I recently used it (Ektar) to photograph classic cars of an up and coming edition of the MG Safety Fast magazine and the results looked amazing.
Same here brother. I just love the tones and flexibility you get from Ektar. It’s a one of the more underrated film stocks out there and decent price too. I’ve shot portraits with it and the skin tones were fine.
I'm not sue if you are aware of warming filters. With slide film you need to control your white balance with filters to get proper colour temperature. With negative film the colour correction takes place in the scanning. I have shot plenty of Ektar and Ektachrome and I would take Ektachrome every time but I also employ warming filters. I almost always have an 81A filter on the lens and I carry an 81C for the really cool light.
I also shot Ektachrome recently and disliked the blue cast. But not all the slide films are like that (at least when you expose them correctly). Provia for example has the most natural colors I know.
Yea thats true, I was hoping ektarchrome gave me some natural colors but it didnt, i also was turned off by velvia in the past. im going to take a roll of provia out for a spin.
@@MarcusLloyd everyone went crazy when they relaunched Ektachrome but I really don't know why.. Velvia is nice for landscapes but for everything else it sucks 😄
Really enjoyed this video! Curious about how you processed and scanned the film? The Ektar looks almost a little desaturated and really neutral. It looks great!
@@MarcusLloyd Thanks for replying! You've got a great look in your photos :) Binged through all the videos today and looking forward to more. Keep up the good work man
All do current Kodak's Ektachrome is a nice film, it isn't actually something spectacular. But back in the day, I've been shooting Ektachrome Professional 100s, 100VS and 100SW. Now those films are putting even Fujichrome's Velvia to shame. Now that being said, Ektachrome Professional 100SW was the closest to Ektar in term of warm (ish) yet saturated colours. Just saying...
@makingplansfornigel-p1j Well the truth is I didn't try new Ektachrome yet. Mostly course there's not a single lab left in my country that develops E-6 in my country anymore. And I dropped the idea to develop it myself decades ago...
Please consider shooting in landscape mode. All these portrait shots of horizontal scenes, cut off the subjects and give film real estate to empty asphalt. The world is horizontal, your eyes are horizontal. Cameras are designed horizontal for a reason. I understand person style and choice in art. So I will just suggest, consider it anyway. Thanks for the video! Peace!

Juan thank you man! Yea, these are the things that really grabbed by eye in Red Hook too.

I love how you thought about the composition of the truck shot and made it happen. I gotta think more about composition when I'm taking photos. Subbed
for sure. composition and light is everything to me

Glad it was helpful! Color negative is a bit more enjoyable to shoot when you’re starting off
The side by side car photos are appreciated.
That photo at 4:29 though 🙌🏻
Thanks bro

Thanks a lot Alex! Its crazy how refreshing it is to see other people shoot with the same cameras that we own.
Super sick video my fav shots r the truck and the yellow car super clean composition
Thanks bro

Thanks so much and that sounds like a plan!
Enjoyed watching this! Especially after we just talked yesterday about process, shooting film, inspiration etc.
Kirsten Alana Photography our convo was the best.
Definitely liked the colors of the Ektar better. I know the feeling that you spoke of seeing slide film fresh from the lab, it's amazing.
myrideishot that was seriously the best part.

Could you do a portrait session with the ektar?
Great idea!
ektar 100 is my personal fav!
point and shoot episode in philly?

Wow Trevor! You just taught me a lot, i had no idea i needed filters for slide. I’m going to look into it. Thanks bro
red hook looks great will definely check it out. Any other cool places to shoot in brooklyn? Other than coney island and dumbo..
Yo there’s so many. Brooklyn heights for sure
Awesome images!
Yo thanks bro!
Great shots... wondering what font you used for these vids?

Thanks a lot Drew!
your vid guy got the shot at 3:37
Nice video/pics! Did you shot the Ektar 100 @ boxspeed? Greetings from Germany ✌🏼
Hey Francis, yes i typically shoot it at 100 but im actually coming out with a video where i shot it at 50 iso
@@MarcusLloyd Thx! Keep it up mate. Looking forward to more of your work ✌🏻
Hi Marcus. Do you tend to meter for the shadows or take an average?
almost always for the shadows
Really enjoyed this video! Curious about how you processed and scanned the film? The Ektar looks almost a little desaturated and really neutral. It looks great!
i drop it off at a local lab and i scan my film at home

I love shooting both. it really depends on what im trying to say with the photo. but i tend to agree with you on landscape orientation
