Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses-such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research-as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use. Section 107 calls for consideration of the following four factors in evaluating a question of fair use:

Sun City is kind of like Monte Carlo. It's where the white millionaires of the world go to gamble, watch singers perform, drive around in the most expensive cars and flashy jewelry, etc. So Sun City is there in a country where the Black majority can't vote, literal fences separate white and Black neighborhoods, where the police turn dogs and water hoses and guns on the poverty stricken Black people. Things have changed a bit in South Africa since Mandela was freed and he established the National African Congress, but for a lot of people, living in South Africa is hell on earth.

I didn't see it mentioned, Little Stephen was part of the E street band, AKA. Bruce Springsteen's band, this was "Little Steven" Van Zandt's brief solo run before he became and actor on the Sorpranos. He and Bruce had a falling out at some point after this but I don't know why. I enjoyed watching the Vid with you, thanx.

I remember Queen, Elton John, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Barry Manilow, and Rod Stewart all violated the boycott to play Sun City at the time. They each had a very big pay-day but I wonder how they were able to live with themselves.

That is Bruce Springsteen and Little Steven. The singers and rappers were very big in the 1980s because of MTV - Run DMC, Fat Boys, Kurtis Blow, Afrika Bambatta, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Joey Ramone, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Raitt, Reuben Blades, Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil, Bono from U2, Nona Hendryx, etc. The opening trumpet was the great Miles Davis. This song and "Free Nelson Mandela" by The Special AKA did much to galvanize US and UK youth against South African apartheid.

Stevie Van Zandt and this song are the catalyst that eventually brought the end to the apartheid regime and got Nelson Mandela freed. He was the one that brought attention to what was going on there. He researched and actually went to South Africa which could have got him killed or imprisoned from both sides of this conflict. He got the different warring factions who were extremely violent towards each other to start talking and unite together. He was the one that educated my generation to what was going on and pushed our governments most notably in the U.S. and the U.K. to join the boycott against South Africa.
As for those that did play Sun City, I doubt that they knew what was going on. Stevie is an awesome man and he deserves a lot more recognition for what he did. I encourage everyone to read his book "Unrequited Infatuations".

Yes, it’s Bruce. Little Steven’s in this with the bandana, he wrote the song and organized the video and whole deal. The Big Man plays the sax, Bob Dylan sings a snippet, that’s Bono from U2 with the goatee,...There are lots of people I think you know. When you paused to see if “That guy is Bruce”, that’s Ringo from The Beatles and his son drumming. My fave of the “Cause” songs and the video is fantastic!

But Springstein , and Bono , will play in Televiv , and never say anything about the apartied state in Israhell. They are fraud. They could learn a lot from Rodger Waters.

Sister Honey61, you are incorrect. Miles Davis does play on this song, but he is a trumpet player. Clarence Clemons is indeed playing the saxophone.

Little Steven Van Zandt is a natural treasure. And I miss the late great Lou Reed and punk legend Joey Ramone.

That's Miles Davis playing trumpet at the beginning. Run-DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Little Steven, Ramones, Pat Benatar, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Kendricks?, George Clinton, Jimmy Cliff, Chaka Kahn, J. Geils, Lou Reed, Midnight Oil, Bono, Ringo!, Peter Gabriel, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Clarence Clemons! There were other artists I recognized but whose names have left me in the decades since. They were singing the announcement of their boycott of playing shows at Sun City for as long as apartheid persisted in South Africa. Artists back in the eighties joined together several times to release songs advocating for global causes. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and "We Are The World" are perhaps the more famous examples. "Sun City" is another in that line and you can dance to it! [grin] For a related anthem from back then, check out The Specials "Nelson Mandela" from 1984. The "(Official Music Video)" has pretty good audio quality but the 2015 remaster really pops!

There were more than a few songs like this in the 80s. Groups of artists coming together for a cause. USA for Africa. Band Aid. Hear 'N Aid. But this was different. The other ones were about raising money. This was about denying money to an unjust system. And at the time in America, there were not a lot of times where - as the first line says "rockers and rappers" - came together for anything. Seeing everyone from Hall and Oates to Grandmaster Flash together was inspiring.

Sun City is a resort in South Africa (or as I've learned to pronounce it: Sef Efrika :D )
Speaking of pronouncing, you got the "ei" in Apartheid right. Now you can pronounce Rammstein correctly 😛
