I've been feeding my furbabies mushrooms for many many years now and same with ourselves.. Im feeding them 2 x a week on thier either raw or slightly cooked meals on top of other wonderful foods , fruits, etc.... Always cook! Most of the polysachirides are locked up in the chitin. It's not digestable until broken down by heat. Slightly cooked is no good either.

I forage and sell chaga and reishi and both my pets get some dual extract every day. My channel shows some of my reishi and chaga adventures with one of my fur babies , Arlo. On ebay he's featured in some photos. I make extracts but encourage people to make their own. It's easy but chaga in particular takes a long time to do the alcohol extraction. So get some started asap!

Reishi is not bitter if you make a strong slow water infusion (crock pot) then add few drops of extract (glycerin based for pets of course) for the beta glucans. I find at least one most years on dead hemlock (ganoderma tsugae) in Vermont.

Me too. Northern NY. Awesome reishi year up here this year. I give my dogs a dual extract of chaga 50% and reishi, lionsmane. Just had some reishi tea and it wasn't bad.

So in the case of Chaga, Turkey Tail and Reishi mushroom, all of which I collect, process and use, you want what's called a double extraction, alcohol extracts beta glucans while water infusions extract polysaccharides, you want both.
Been doing this for 20 years and it helps to be an herbalist!

Been making tea with the chaga I collect. I'll have to try extractions. Any books you recommend for extraction directions? I like to have print books, just in case.

I use several realmushroom products for myself. My Standard Poodle Simon takes 5Defenders and Cordyceps. I alternate these two products with realmushrooms Daily Dawg. Realmushrooms are the highest quality and awesome customer service. Doc Rob Silver, the petmushroom formulator is great also and truly cares about our pets!

Hi Dr. Judy Morgan, I have a question period. I feed my dog. I have a Yorky mix that is 9 pounds small batch dog food but I’m wondering how much calories she really she needs. When I moved her from primal to small batch, I fed her according to the small batch instructions, which for her would be about four sliders, as she’s in between the two recommended for five and four recommended for 10. But since I switched, she’s been really hungry and I’ve noticed that her back legs have a small bald patch which I know can be a sign of malnutrition or the dog not getting enough nutrients. I took her to the vet and they didn’t see anything that could be medically wrong. So I’m wondering if she’s not getting enough calories the pork sliders I feed her say that they are 37 cal each. And when I google search to find out how many calories is recommended to feed your dog, I get 40 cal per pound of bodyweight which for her would be 360 which in small batches terms would mean I’d have to feed her nine sliders, which is what they recommend for a 20 pound dog.
