That’s the great thing about this film it presupposes the audiences intellect. It never talks down to you; it throws you into the world you as the audience are left to discern it. That’s the genius of this film the way the narrative structure is delineated it makes the audience no matter who; Damon’s contemporary and equal and see things from his perspective.
Great movie! Ed Norton’s performance steals the show, it’s really a big part of why this movie is rewatchable. His absence is felt the last 20 minutes until Malkovich returns.
I think they were going back to favorites for the live tour rather than doing new movies. Kind of lame, but I get it. After all, when you go to a concert and the band plays a new track, everyone uses that as an opportunity to get a second beer or hit the head.
"So, you're looking for a little grace, Lester, a little charity" - and then Worm mouths off to Grandma, this is a very underrated scene with Rispoli, Damon, and Norton. A miss by you guys...
I've thought about KGB's integritey when he said, "pay that man his money" , and he needs to have some integrity because if now who would want to go to his place and play poker with money. They could go to other places in NYC
I love ROUNDERS and all poker scenes from Rounders . I am very surprised that no one mentioned the awesome poker scene from The STING. Paul Newman and Robert Shaw. Yeah it was con poker play but so very very entertaining!!
Poker player Daniel Negreanu analyzed the final hand on his RUclips a while back. He came to the conclusion that Teddy KGB had either 66, 77, or AA, ultimately saying that AA was probably it.
I agree with this, and with the point about KGB's "this card couldn't have helped you" comment. AA is the one holding where this remark makes sense because any A-x hand is blocked.
Thank you! Damon was the forever mark for Norton they were never “friends” they haven’t been since they were young. It was a form of manipulation. Emotionally constructed by Damon that Norton saw and exploited. Damon was the forever mark for Norton poor Damon just did not ever see it.
Get Russillo ready, the Fear episode needs to happen. His research of Boston area correctional facilities an how they formed Wahlberg's character will be iconic. If you're redoing Rounders and somehow chose it for your New York movie (I get Bill loves it as a Gen X gambling addict, and one for us movies are a staple of this pod, but this isn't a top 25 NY movie), you need an adrenaline injection for the pod. “It could have all been different, Mr. Walker. You should have allowed nature to take its course. In the end, it will anyway. SO LET ME IN THE FUCKIN’ HOUSE!”
DragonBall Z Saiyan and Frieza Saga I’ve probably watched more than anything. That and Rounders, 8 Mile, Lord of the Rings extended Trilogy, Matrix 1, and The Fountain !
Very proud that I saw this in the movie theater. About Mike's GF... He is an addict and he is back on the sauce. He has obviously promised it was a thing of the past but it's back. Her character is extremely believable and justified.
I skip any scene she's in, but I agree that her character is believable. Maybe not likeable, but definitely believable. After all, Jo was with him at the time he blew his roll (which she mentions). And we also know that she's just as pissed off at him for lying to her. That said, if Mike is as good as he is depicted to be, it seems like she should also know he can make his money back as long as he actually practices some bankroll management. He must have made more money toward law school at the tables than he did with an hourly job.
One of the most rewatchable movies of all time? That just seems hilarious to me. It's a fine movie. I've got no problems with it. But it's not even gonna crack the top 30 best popcorn flicks.
In fairness, "most rewatchable" doesn't mean "best." For my part, Rounders is probably not in my top 50 movies, but it's probably in the top 10 I've seen the most. I think that's what he was getting at, but then you'd think Shawshank is Bill's most rewatchable.
@@Random-Stranger Too much playing to the audience, too much audience participation. Don’t mind it for these re-rewatchables, but I miss the studio pods

Worm says Clyde and Monroe because they won the chip when they would’ve been kids. You say your childhood hero’s not the current team. Like bill would say I was hot like Bird not like Tatum. Like I currently say “melo” when I hit a deep three on the playground not “Brunson”
Jack Nicholson woulda been the perfect worm. Robert Duvall as Mike. Deniro as kanish. And Robert Shaw as kgb. Diane Keaton for Jo, the judge would be John Houston and Sophia Lauren for famke janson’s character.
Lucky You was a pretty decent poker film. Apart from the insane decision of letting Drew Barrymore sing 😬 Eric Bana and Robert Duvall are pretty great. An underrated poker film all round.
All these dopes disrespecting Knish. Outside of Chan, he's the best poker player in the movie. He doesn't do it glamorously but he's making consistent money.
“I can’t think of another person that could play Worm other than Ed Norton.” I dunno man, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Nic Cage or Christian Slater version of that character in the 90s, or the Barry Keoghan/Lucas Hedges version of that character today
I hardly ever hear anyone talking about this movie, it's wild to hear them talk about it with such high regard. It's fine, but let's be real here not that many people care about this movie or come back and rewatch it
The Hockey strike and the camera shot of the cards boomed poker, and don't know how no 1 explained 2 these idiots ESPECIALLY AFTER almost 30 years the reason Mike is giddy in the showdown with KGB is the odds of him having pocket aces heads up is ASTRONOMICAL
Kanish should have done the opposite towards Damon impart wisdom if they’re a partner and he’s staking you otherwise you’re his employee and get no preferential treatment.
Norton was on the ascension towards all time greatness but he never did the politics well. Oscar nomination for Primal Fear & American History X, the cult favorite in Fight Club. That early career run. He did what is comparable now to what Luka Doncic is doing. Just instantly became one of the greats right off the bat. And did everything but win a ring. His career is still great but he started off as Luka and finished off as Tobias Harris. Not bad, he was a valuable 3rd option on movies like Moonrise Kingdom. But, still a supporting option. He was supposed to be De Niro! Vying for more Oscars. Getting more roles offered. Imagine the talents of Luka. Someone who can do it all, does it with flair but in a humble way. Can play multiple characters, multiple personalities. But is not wanted by teams. And only offered bench roles or starting roles on losing teams.
I’m shocked that Simmons didnt play poker before Rounders. Also Chris Ryan not knowing anything about poker and not being able to relate saying he has “no idea”? Huh?
I doubt we will ever get a true Rounders sequel. Unfortunately, a remake on Hulu starring Jack Harlow as Mike and Pete Davidson as Worm is a far more likely reality. Who am I kidding? I would 100% watch that.
lol, why were they acting like Damon hadn't just been nominated for 2 oscars and won 1 right before Rounders came out? Everyone knew who he was by that point.
No, he was in The Rainmaker (Nov 1997) almost a full year before that, too, and it grossed over twice ($45m) what Rounders did ($22m). Either way, Good Will Hunting (Dec 1997, $138m) put Damon on the map well before Rounders.@@rigsby1454
The sequel is the judge dies and leaves Mike a portion of his inheritance and this causes conflict with gramma and by extension kgb with worm returning as well as famke Jansen and the actress who played Jo. Whom connect at the judges funeral. There is a legacy sequel here.
In Heads up, 2 handed poker the odds of all 4 cards of a particular value being dealt in Texas Hold em are 1/250,000 roughly. Maybe Mike was hoping KGB didn't have aces but as the hand played out there was no way he's ever playing that hand differently given the odds. But it's a movie and reality is never as interesting as fiction.
Yeah, that hand is a total cooler, especially when it's a button vs. flat call in the BB. The chances KGB has AA is even smaller because he didn't three-bet pre. Can't fault Mike for stacking off there. The only thing Mike did wrong was sitting down with his entire roll as a single buy-in.
I agree. I just cant get past the cheesiness. Damon and Ed Norton were great in it, but John Malkovich and Gretchen Mol were so horrendous it takes me right out it.
