    For those wondering why Blender isn't showing any textures after the import, you have to change the "viewport shading" option near the top right of the window.

      holy hell thank you! for the love of Jesus...trying to work with obj and bring textures in is a literal nightmare. super new to this and this made me smile ear to ear. thank you again

      Is there a way to get it work for unity for a texture?
      In blender it's now fully textured but when puting it into unity it lose it all

    If you have dark image textures in Cycles and don't want to use the emission node to 'brighten' the texture (emission will effect shadows on the object and other shader properties), you can use the the 'Shader: Flat or Smooth' option in the import window instead of 'Use Normal Data' (see 00:00:55 in this tutorial). I also had good luck using the 'Merge Vertices' option on the import instead of selecting non-manifold geometry and then merging. Polycam is a fantastic scanning app, thank you!

    For most models you're not going to want to take specular down to zero, especially if you're rendering in cycles. Make it .25 at the lowest and then max out your roughness if you really want a dull finish.

    It would be nice to see how you take something from Polycam, put it in Blender, and then export it for printing on a 3D printer. Full circle in how to use your app to the fullest.

      @@mikek4610 Once you have scanned something you just export it to stl then pop into your slicer software and print! Simple!

    Thank you for this video! It was a real headscratcher when my boss gave me the models (in OBJ-format) and the textures reacted all wrong to the lighting in my scene. Now I know why 😄

    Thanks for this! I was importing FBX and wondering why I didn't see the textures. Switching to GLB did the trick!

    GLTF only has base color as part of the material and the FBX won't import, there are errors.

    when I go from sculpting to shading, the model shows as it was when imported (before remove the floor parts). any idea?

    Blender I have does not let me import a GLTF. I then tried just to import as a OBJ file. I managed to get it to select non maifold but then under mesh - "merge" is not an option. Its simply not there. If I hit space and search it gives me merge option but 'by distance' is not there and non of the other option work! Any ideas.

      @@craig7111 You probably have to change the "viewport shading" option near the top right of the window in Blender.

    How do we separate the UV to export to Unreal? Every method I've tried just gives me a white object and no material to apply back to it. I'm sure there's a step in Blender but no tut I've watched (a LOT of them) has mentioned this. They just export to Unreal and viola!

      @@daviddouglas9989 It doesn't seems to create blender file correctly, goto shader editor and change images , if its image 1 to 6 for example you probalby need to use 3 and 4 but it will be using 1 and 2.

    When exporting to Blender, I have the diffuse map, but no normal map. This happens with both .obj and .gltf files. Any ideas as to why or how to fix?

      @@neildavies7853 I just tried it on Blender 3.4 and no change. All that comes in is the base color.

      Found a way: Make sure in Polycam the export to is set to "Blender" and then export as FBX. The Normal map is there.

    how do you fill in missing faces? there are lots of little holes in my .obj which messes with its appearance

    A topic I'd like to see covered: Is there a good tool or library for embedding 3D objects and *scenes* in webpages, so that a person viewing the page can move about as if the object were fixed and they were viewing it and moving about it? I am a sculptor, and have wanted to be able to represent my wall sculptures in 3D on my webpage for years. Microsoft created then trashed an excellent system for this, but I have seen nothing since. There is a 3D object viewer, and I will probably use that for the moment, but it doesn't behave the same way - it keeps the object centered and lets you manipulate it with vague controls, rather than having it in a fixed point in virtual space, and allowing you to use discrete controls to move around and look at it. If there is such a thing, please give a tutorial for bringing PolyCam objects into it and using it on a website. If there is not... how about making one to broaden your audience and utility?

      Hubs by Mozilla ! you can put the object in any space you like eg a virtual art gallery and then invite people in like a zoom call to walk around the space

    How do you capture the bottom of an object? i have tried flipping the object over but the app just gets confused.

      Nonono, the object is supposed to be completely still. Best you can do is perch it on something small and capture it as much as you can.

      With Photo Mode, you can actually use the "Use Object Masking" toggle if you flip the object over and capture the underside. It's kind of tricky, though - we still need to make a tutorial about it.

    It's really too bad you don't answer questions in here. You must have taken a step to show normals in the nodes because the imported file doesn't show that information when going into the shading window.

      There is a hot key for visualizing a single nodes output in blender. Shift - Ctrl - LMB. You may need to enable node wrangler first in the add on prefs.

      its tiny! press period on numpad or scale up. when importing you can set scale to fix also.

    i am trying to export but it doesnt work in the format you showed- so i tried fbx well fbx get exportetd- but the are my textures missing- where are they?
