I'm a Master Rank Chun player, and I can't stand the way people complain about Chun. Yes, she's no Akuma, Bison, or even Ken, but she is still obviously a good character.
YES SHE IS! I don't know what Chun Li players want for her, they want to pretend to play a technical character, at the same time they want the character to be just as dumb as Bison or Ken
People are sleeping on the Heavy SBK being more consistent, she's got damn near Ken levels of corner carry now. Giving her a throw loop on top of that would be absolutely insane lol.
@@ryuakumaxx8 I would not say Ken level, but definitively a lot better. Also Heavy SBK does 1400 damage, same as Ryu H Shoryuken, but with 3x more corner carry
Chun can also combo into H spinning bird from 2MP, a nice improvement for her meterless damage as well since you can combo into it from her air legs and counter hit 5LP. Also, some characters got the drive meter gain increased on normals that don't hit quite often, or normals that are used in drive rush combos, negating the benefit. Chun's 5HP is a button that is used quite frequently, so it is a nice buff for her. She also benefits from the sweep nerfs, because she doesn't have a long range one. She can now punish some of them with 2MK, were as before she could not Overall, even with the changes not being that massive, she benefits a lot from this patch, not only some of the top tiers were nerfed, some of her bad matchups were as well (mainly Cammy and Bison)
She gets a punish now if they press a button after St. Hp now with the faster slide at max range!!!! Thats huge, now you can condion then to hold st. Hp into stance LK fireball or confirm
@@soulzorI swear calling her the best character in the game was Ken player propaganda. She was definitely strong but she had very little robbery mechanics and she couldn’t get in for free outside of walking forward or making reads.
Capcom giving her ~150 more damage on some combos and making her stance MP faster instead of just having it as command normal does not inspire confidence in Capcom knowing what to do with her That the Modern version of a legacy SF character might be better than Classic speaks to how incoherent her design is in this game that the best option is to just cut out as much of the complication as necessary, lol
100% feels like they don't know what to do with her. The new change to stance mp is good on counter hit if you buffer stance, yet stance isn't really good to buffer from pokes because it isn't very good on normal hit or block as far as I am aware
So I'm a diamond 3 chun main been playing for about a year and a half. I'm stuck at d3 because I think everything I'm playing is a capcom bot right now similar code to the SiRN M. Bison arcade event where he just knows exactly what you're going to do and full punishes. That's the competition I have right now. Watching moke, his competition makes more mistakes than these bots. I don't really see the heavy sbk buff being a good thing since now I have to rewire my brain for that and it makes her combos more complicated having to switch buttons after stance mid kick to a heavy button now... But I can deal. The stance middle punch buff would have been nice a year ago when I was accidentally hitting it and getting severely punished. Now we get another way to get a fairly easy knockdown, but it's usually better damage to do heavy legs or sbk. Middle stance punch was already very good for mixups on fireballs. For those who say you're not using stance in neutral, I don't think you understand her spacing game. If you memorize which moves push her into a perfect whiff punish range (4/6 mp to stance, 2mp to stance) or are safer if you cancel into stance (2mk, the stance cancel let's you block a DI faster) and wait a sec, or if you use stance as a way to cancel into drive impact when people throw that out, it is very good in neutral. Some moves like back hp and 2hp have to go directly into stance light punch to be safe rather than stopping in stance and waiting, and you have to end in kikoken on block confirm to stay safe. Kikoken is not safe on full stance block chains from 4/6 mp, so you have to wait to see if they jab, and then you can punish the jab. Chun li has a ton of mixups from normal to stance, some with delay and others not, some with spacing. Against real players it is tricky with all that plus her norm and stance lows and mid blocks from stance hp, 3hp, and hazanchus. Against bots, she has 0 game because they have input reads, know her frames, and can perfectly block like a computer being told to block. The bots perfect parry or always side step her 3hk too, which if you haven't thrown that out at all the entire match is a giveaway it's a bot. Heavy sbk was good out of stance hp previously or for a low effort punish from crouch hp if you are missing the launcher combo that day or they are almost dead and you Don't wanna mess up.
But what would you change about her? I don't think they needed to change the character a lot, the only thing I wish they fix are the inconsistent juggles and partial connects both lvl 2 and 3 still have, otherwise, she is definitively strong and don't need changes
I'm far from pro and definitely haven't been locked in on fighting games for quite a while, but as a loooong time Chun main and fan, I like where she's at. Modern players definitely got the win, but I'm at least excited to test a new combo route or two with my lady 🤷🏾♂️🤣
It's the same for pretty much every other character to be fair. What attacks are invincible on wake up without using EX? Not even Dragon Punch is invincible on wake up anymore, they took that out from SFV.
You don’t see her too often because there isn’t much reason to play her. She’s complex and doesn’t offer the same reward as she did in season 1. Even then, you had characters like Dee Jay, Ken, Luke, Guile, JP, Cammy, Juri, all of whom have better returns and aren’t as complex as she is. Now with her recent season 2 nerfs and power creep like Bison and Akuma, why go through the trouble of learning Chun?
She may not have throw loops but she has the best beginning (starting) drive rush speed/distance cover which means she can DR into throw better. For example if she does a crouching sweep that gets blocked she can then cancel into DR and throw automatically. Whilst if many other characters tried the same, they would whiff the throw or be checked, because their beginning DR doesn’t initially move far or fast enough.
The only patch she need is better fist 👊 attack moves animation...her knife hand is very stupid and lazy AF her best his her double pawn attack but short range af 👎...it's like they not trying to have her doing cool moves with her first ,dispike she knows kungfu but make it seem like she's a fucking taekwondo smh

I'll never understand why they nerfed hard one of the few characters that don't got throw loops.
simple, to push DLC characters to be the stronger ones and people buy them and use them, DLC are top tier
Because she was busted, lets not pretend she wasn't. The weird thing was letting characters like Ken and Rashid untouched

She needs a bit more imo especially since Mai and Elena will have a similar playstyle while probably being easier.

They should restore how St. Hk was in s1, why the added scaling? I also feel like this wasn't enough.
